newhidups, udev, usb, and frustration
Hello,
I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to get this all working without
some stupid hack. So far no dice. Not sure if there is a new feature
in CVS or something that might help. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Got a belkin F6C550-AVR.

newhidups subdriver_matcher incorrectly matches USB hub
I ran into the following issue today and would like some feedback from
the group.
Setup:
I am using a MGE Pulsar Evolution 2200 UPS connected through a Belkin
(F5U218-MOB) 4-Port USB Hub.
Scenario:
The newhidups subdriver_matcher function calls
belkin_subdriver->belkin_claim. The belkin_claim function in
belkin-hid.c matches the VendorID of the hub to Belkin's VendorID
(0x050d), causing

Re: about [ #302111 ] newhidups support for Belkin
I have checked in a cleaned-up version of patch #302111 (Belkin
support) into CVS. See
cvs diff -uN -r before_PSE_2 -r after_PSE_2
to check the difference. Here is the CHANGES entry:

A lot of recent posts on problems with newhidups, tripplite_usb, etc.

APC Question...
Greetings:
I've been following through the instructions on how to connect an APC
BackUPS 650 ES to USB, and have it monitored with NUT...
I know my system can SEE the UPS, as DMESG shows this:

tracing a problem with newhidups
Hi. I'm having trouble with nut-2.0.3 on a linux kernel 2.4.32 machine and a
MGE Evolution 3000. The problem is that I'm getting the following message,
repeatidly, on dmesg:
usbdevfs: usb_submit_urb returned -22
(-22 means -EINVAL)
I traced the problem with newhidups -DDDDDD auto and found out that the -22
error appears in a line "none (-22)" of the output as:

the future libusb interface for newhidups
Peter,
You may want to have a look at the comments to Bug 164524 at
bugzilla@redhat.com:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=164524
I filed this a long while ago, because of the mess we get into when
shutting down Linux via /etc/rc.d/init.d/halt, and the UPS device no
longer being reachable when we want shut it down.
There seem to be some changes to libusb on the way, that

newhidups: today's changes
Here is a summary of the changes I made to newhidups today (between
the tags after_PSE_6 and after_PSE_9, roughly).
* all the vendor-specific code that was in various "switch" statements
has now been moved to the individual subdriver (apc-hid, mge-hid,
belkin-hid) files. This also includes the vendor-specific Usage
tables.
In future, it should be quite easy to add new

APC 1500RM / NUT 2.0.3 / newhidups / Solaris 10 [long]
Folks, while I've got the above combination to compile and run under
Solaris 10, it seems that there are still problems in the libusb/ugen
driver stack from Sun and or the APC Smart UPS 1500, so things aren't
actually working.
It seems that the APC Smart UPS 1500RM doesn't return the HID descriptor
length information in 0x21 as noted in a previous thread, but in my
case, it also

NUT-2.0.5: newhidups on RedHat ES4
Hello everybody,
After succeeded in "tuning" nut-2.0.0's hidups and 2.0.3's newhidups on
customized Linux kernels, we are now facing a new challenge : trying to
install nut-2.0.5 on a RedHat ES4 which is based on a 2.6.9 kernel.
I picked up the 2.0.5 source package and follow the INSTALL doc until step
6. So far so good.
RH ES4 is managed by udev, therefore I presume we

newhidups, usb permissions and Debian
Hi all,
I've tried installing NUT from both the Debian packages and the
2.0.4-pre1 source but I'm unable to sort out the USB permissions when
using the newhidups driver and an APC XS series UPS. In each case,
I'm able to run newhidups as user root but running it as user nut
fails:

USB UPS Question...
Hello,
I have been trying to get a TrippLite Internet Office 750 UPS to talk to
my Linux PBX for a couple of evenings now and I'm getting nowhere... I
tried searching the list archives before posting here (I'm sure I'm not
the first one to try to get this going) but they seem to be offline...
The UPS is unfortunately USB based but I thought I'd give it a try
anyway. Here is

Device not found--newhidups, FreeBSD 4.10, CyperPower 685AVR
I've been using nut with a serial device for a while, but today I tried
hooking up this new CyberPower 685 unit via newhidups--since it seemed
better supported over USB than serial, based on reading the list
archives and cvs logs. Unfortunately, I can't connect to it.
My system sees the device:
uhid1: CPS UPS BF700, rev 1.10/0.01, addr 2, iclass 3/0
... and I have chmodded all

newhidups with APC Smart-UPS - workaround!
Hi.
I had a problem recently with %subj, and I've solved it.
Sent a letter with solution to maintainers, but it seems like I've lost it somewhere.
May be just simply forgot to write it.. But anyway.
I've noticed that I'm not the only one who had it. So I post the workaround.
The problem is similar to the one mentioned in letter with alike subject at Oct. 5.

newhidups / Solaris 10 / APC RM1500
Hi there,
been using NUT for ages and recently upgraded to a new server; while
I'm waiting
for a USB->Serial adapter for Solaris to arrive, I thought I'd play
with the
newhidups, as the APC UPS I have has a USB port and the new server
doesn't have
a serial port....
I've got Solaris 10 & newhidups working with the ugen driver up to a
point,

newhidups... at last.
Hi Arnaud, hi all
I wish you all the best for 2006.
Enjoying of some less stressed time, I follow your advice, Arnaud, to
switch our UPS management on the newhidups driver. ( Enfin ! ;)
Our goal is to support (soon) the new MGE ASR ELLIPSE ( and of course also
the old ELLIPSE and EXTREME models ).
I rebuild the libusb-0.1.10a packages to conform to our installation process.

newhidups and APC Back-UPS CS 350
Hello,
I'm currently try to get newhidups running with
the newhidups driver from nut 2.0.2.
After some USB issues (usb_claim_interface() works only as root so far)
newhidups is recognizing the device. Though it doesn't detect any state
changes, meaning when I run the battery test mode it's not recognized.
I wanted to try the CVS version but it seems anonymous CVS is broken.
