Status of samba packages in Debian
It's been some time since I didn't send an update about samba packages
in Debian. Here it is. Fairly long, sorry for this.
As preliminary facts: Debian entered a full freeze in Mid-August, in
preparation of the next release, codename "squeeze". It means that
packages uploaded to Debian unstable no longer migrate to testing
(which is "the next release", so squeeze right

Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.2.4
Here's your seasonal gift folks - Debian and Ubuntu packages for Xapian
1.2.4.
The Xapian 1.2.4 packages are now in Debian unstable. Debian is frozen
in preparation for the 6.0 (squeeze) release, which will have 1.2.3
packages.
The Debian backports service still has 1.0.x packages. In the New Year
(probably in January) I'm intending to switch that to have 1.2.x
packages instead (and

libguestfs on Debian 6 squeeze problems
I'm trying to install libguestfs on Debian squeeze installed from
http://people.debian.org/~bengen/libguestfs/
It does not work. Here are the details:
I was able to install libguestfs-tools and its dependencies. However,
aptitude removed the following two packages: qemu and qemu-system. I'm
not sure if it's okay or not. If I try to install those packages back, I
get the

Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.2.5
The Xapian 1.2.5 packages are now in Debian unstable, and I will upload
backports for Debian 6.0 (squeeze) once they've all migrated to testing,
which should happen in a few days time:
http://backports.debian.org/
I've uploaded backported packages of 1.2.5 for hardy, karmic, lucid,
maverick and natty, except for xapian-bindings which failed to build
on hardy:

Debian and Ubuntu packages of 1.2.3
I've updated the Debian packaging for Debian and Ubuntu for Xapian 1.2.3.
The Xapian 1.2.3 packages are now in Debian unstable and should transition
to Debian testing fairly soon, and certainly in time for the upcoming
release of Debian 6.0 (squeeze).
I'm using a second PPA on launchpad for backported versions of these packages
for various Ubuntu releases:

cifs-utils 4.1 in Debian lenny backports
(this mail is crossposted to 4 mailing lists, some of which being
subscribers-only. Please consider this when answering if you need to)
Let's see this as my first achievement of SambaXP

An "official" backport of cifs-utils
(http://www.samba.org/linux-cifs/cifs-utils/) is now available for
users of Debian lenny.

Problem installing R on Debian 6
Dear Hartyun Khachatryan,
thanks for your report. It seems not a lot of people are using the backport to
squeeze, as I have forgot to update the package index after doing the backport
for R 3.2.2 and nobody (including me) noticed...
The updated index is on its way to the CRAN mirrors, it will take some time to
be synchronised, so please try again tomorrow.

Debian squeeze as Dom 0?
Hi,
I''m going through the experience of learning XEN. My intentions are to track down changes (at source code level) required to make a kernel into dom 0
kernel (if we consider that particular kernel is earlier than 2.6.18). while going through Xen wiki I have a confusion in my mind.
Debian squeeze 6.0 is said to be Dom 0 kernel. Debian squeeze is using 2.6.32 linux kernel and once we

Debian Squeeze packages available for Gluster 3.4.0-alpha2

they are available on

They built and installed successfully, and have been running nicely
for a couple of hours,
but your mileage may vary.
The Debian packaging is on

[Fwd: Re: [Xen-devel] Xen 4.0 in debian packages?]
Hi there,
It is my understanding that blktap2 has been removed from the built of
xen-hypervisor-{i386|amd64} because of the OpenSSL licensing and its
incompatibility with the GPL, but apparently it is possible to not use
OpenSSL at all.
What is your thoughts about this? Could blktap2 support be added? Should
it be packaged separately and be sent to non-free?

Xen + Debian Squeeze + Recent ATI Graphics Card
Hi List,
I'm looking for some info regarding the above - I've got a machine with a fairly
recent ATI Radeon graphics card (RV730XT) installed that ultimately I'd like to
run Xen with a Debian Squeeze Dom0.
From the reading I've done so far, the situation with graphics cards and PVOPS
is not entirely clear to me, hence this request. (N.B. I appreciate that Xen is
