Summary of Suggestions for poor man's parallel processing
Thanks to Luke Tierney, Agustin Lobo, Stephen Eglen, A.J. Rossini, Simon Wood and Timothy H. Keitt for responding to my question about poor man's parallel processing. Much of the substantive material was cc'ed to r-help already, but my take is as follows. 1) Currently, there is nothing "simple" for solving my problem. 2) I thought that Timothy Keitt's description of the use

New version of pmg -- Poor Man's GUI
For those who are interested, I've finished release of 0.4 of pmg and have placed it on my website at http://www.math.csi.cuny.edu/Statistics/R/pmg. The pmg package provides some GUI elements using the RGtk package and friends: RGtk, OOP, RGtkExtra, RGtkHTML, RGdkPixbuf, RGtkViewers and REventLoop from www.omegahat.org and gtkDevice from CRAN. (These require a form of UNIX such as linux, OS

Poor man's High Availability solution
Hi, I'm wondering what the best option to obtain a high availability asterisk server is. I currently use a TE410P (4 x E1) card. I'm thinking of 2 different solutions: - 2 servers configured with Heartbeat + DRBD (drbd mainly for voicemail....) and the E1 span plugged to the 2 servers (with a TE410P in each server). - 2 servers configures with Heartbeat + DRBD with the E1 span hooked

FW: Summary of Suggestions for poor man's parallel processing
It turns out that my web host doesn't allow direct links. Try going to http://www.warnes.net/downloads or getting it from the sourceforge snippet library https://sourceforge.net/snippet/detail.php?type=snippet&id=101149. -Greg > -----Original Message----- > From: Warnes, Gregory R [mailto:gregory_r_warnes at groton.pfizer.com] > Sent: Monday, May 13, 2002 10:15 AM > To:

Office XP? Windows XP dlls? mIRClocked up.
I've read through some archives on the users mailing list and found some answers to getting Wine 20020122 going. I didn't have to change much with the default way tools/wineinstall. Here's my questions 1) Does Wine run programs that live in a native Windows XP vfat partition using the native dlls? 2) Does Wine run Office XP, even if it is buggy? 3) Can it run programs such as

Suggestions for poor man's parallel processing
Almost all of the heavy crunching I do in R is like: > for(i in long.list){ + do.something(i) + } > collect.results() Since all the invocations of do.something are independent of one another, there is no reason that I can't run them in parallel. Since my machine has four processors, a natural way to do this is to divide up long.list into 4 pieces and then start 4 jobs, each of which

Using voice modem as poor man's FXO in Asterisk 1.8
Hi all, I've tried researching this, and so far, have struggled to find any contemporary information on the issue, so I do apologise if asking this irritates people who have answered this before. I have managed to set up Asterisk 1.8 on the web server here. I have two softphones (Ekiga) able to communicate with it. So far so good. I'm now curious to see if I can link it with the PSTN

OT: Unix/Linux Training Online
This is a bit off topic but I was interested in taking some online classes. I currently have an associates degree in electronics tech from about 15 years back but was wanting to expand on that and learn more about linux. Oreillyschool.com has a somewhat affordable online certificate course in UNIX/linux admin. The downside is I do not know if there credits would ever transfer if I wanted to

ip phones and intercom/paging
There was a thread a few months ago that tossed around some ideas for using a cisco phone for intercom or paging. I don't have any ip phones, and wondered if anyone had any luck getting intercom or paging to work on the cisco units. Do any of the (cheaper) ip phones have a way to support intercom or paging? I presume that it's not part of the SIP or IAX protocols. Chris.

Internet Explorer Install
I read the wine apps notes about Internet Explorer and searched through the mailing list. While installing MS Office 2000, It asked to reboot. I did less /c/windows/WinInit.ini. It says: [Rename] NUL=C:\WINDOWS\ttfCache The note in the IE apps section said to either remove this file or, better yet, do what it says. I don't understand what this is saying. I know that it is trying to

Paging Phones stay off the hook if you dont wait long enough.
I've got one that I haven't been able to solve. Hopefully someone else has had this issue. I'm using the paging script in free pbx, which appears to: Send a sipheader autoanswer, Create a conferece Add the phone to the conference But if the user hits the page extension, all the phones auto answer, and if they hang-up before the phones join the conference I end up with dozens of

Cisco 7940 Phones as paging system?
Hi all; I have been searching for an answer to a question that a customer asked me and I have only found a few older answers. So, wanting to find out if anyone has any experience with this issue and can help provide me with some advice. I have a customer which is strongly interested in using Asterisk as a PBX. One of the core requirements, however, is that the system MUST be able to

poor default seeding of RNG
Correct me if I'm wrong, but init_rng() in entropy.c doesn't call seed_rng(), and in fact seed_rng() isn't called from _anywhere_ (in openssh-2.5.1p2). So calls to BN_rand() only pick up the tiny/non-existent amount of entropy added by BN_rand() itself from the system clock (time in seconds). Shouldn't seed_rng() be called from init_rng()? It should be called from _somewhere_,

Intercom with Cisco SIP 796x phones?
I read about this intercom stuff on page 62 & 63 of the book "Developing Cisco IP Phone Services" isbn 1-58705-060-9. Primary calls take place on streaming channel 0. When streaming channel 0 is not in use, streaming channel 1 can be used for asynchronously streaming (in and out) stuff like voicemail, email, and, yep the one we want, intercom. Page 87-88 of the book talks about

aaccli on recent conrollers?
I have just built a new SunFire X4100 server with an Adaptec 2230SLP RAID card using FreeBSD 6.2-PRE kernel (from September 20). Everything is working extremely well except I cannot run the aaccli utility on this controller. When I try to open the controller, it gives this error: Command Error: <The current AFAAPI.DLL is too old to work with the current controller software.> On

R-pmg (poor man gui) question
Hello, I hope I am reaching the appropriate channel for asking question. I am a newbie with R and pmg. I am trying to create two gdroplist as the following: First list: West, South, North, East, MidWest Second list: States in the U.S For example, if on the first gdroplist I select value MidWest, then I would like the second gdroplist automatically populated with state that belong in the
