There was a thread a few months ago that tossed around some ideas for using a cisco phone for intercom or paging. I don't have any ip phones, and wondered if anyone had any luck getting intercom or paging to work on the cisco units. Do any of the (cheaper) ip phones have a way to support intercom or paging? I presume that it's not part of the SIP or IAX protocols. Chris.
It comes down to the implementation of an "auto-answer" setting. There is an ietf draft that discusses the implementation of many new and useful features that would support intercom/paging, etc in SIP. But it is only a draft at this point. The Cisco SCCP phones do intercom by means of setting a second line on the phone to be "autoanswer" if/when this capability is available in the SIP load, it will be possible with asterisk. Some SIP phones (I think someone mentioned the Pingtel) already support a local setting for one line to be auto answer. This line can be used for internal intercom/paging purposes. -----Original Message----- From: cwitte [mailto:cwitte@xmlhq.com] Sent: Friday, August 08, 2003 8:36 AM To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Subject: [Asterisk-Users] ip phones and intercom/paging There was a thread a few months ago that tossed around some ideas for using a cisco phone for intercom or paging. I may be entering this thread a little late, but just in case I'm not, the Snom 100 and 200 both support auto-answer very nicely. [Asterisk-Users] ip phones and intercom/paging
I'm a bit interested in an intercom system as well. I'm using asterisk with analog phones. Is there any way I can do this? The tricky part is just pushing the RTPRx to the listening phone. XML service specifications are here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_administration_guide09186a008018e234.html Cheers, Siggi
