Good comparisons on cheaper VOIP phones
Hello list, I am doing some work for a non profit group. As part of this, I am going to be putting in a 30 handset Asterisk solution. We are trying to keep the costs down as much as possible, as this job includes cabling, I am looking at POE solutions. On the switch side, I am considering something like some Netgear ProSafe FS726TP 24 port switches, or maybe the equivalent Linksys SRW224MP 24

busy hangup HDLC Bad FCS (8) on Primary D-channel
Hi all, After running fine for a few months now asterisk seems to hang frequently , still functioning but the DAHDI channels seem busy (users report a busy signal when calling or being called) A reboot will allow it to run for another day or maybe 2 or 3 till the problem occurs again. running stock Asterisk 1.6.2.9-2+squeeze2 on Debian with stock kernel 2.6.32-5-686 i get the following

SIP hardware phones
I'm trying to understand why vendors keep making 100Mbps integrated 1-port switches in their hardware SIP phones. Even the recently-announced D40 and D50 Digium phones are limited to 100Mbps. Only the more expensive models (like the D70) can run at 1000Mbps. However, you can't expect a firm with hundreds of extensions to buy the most expensive model... And gigabit speed is important when

PoE VOIP phones in Australia
Hi, Are there any resellers of phones that can take power over ethernet in Australia? All I can find for sale online is the BT-10[12], which is cheap but not featureful enough, and the Snom 190, which is about right, but neither of them support PoE. I'm particularly intereseted in the Snom 220 with the keypad expansion for our receptionist. Although, could you make a PoE split-out cable

VoIP PoE phones for restaurant
Greetings, I mailed the list regarding an intercom system some months ago and we came to the conclusion that I should purchase a Polycom 501 phone. I'm now considering the purchase for this year, and I'm now wondering between the Polycom 501 and the 320 for the intercom. I don't need the spare ethernet on the phone because I would like to have my voice network separate from my

Popular Gigabit Phones
Most manufacturers charge in excess of $80 to upgrade from a 10/100 switch to a 10/100/1000 switch built into the phone. The cost might have been in the chipset 5 years ago but I can get a 5 port gigabit switch for $30. What are most folks using for people that need gigabit to the desktop and don't want to run another cable? -Matt

[OT] switches
Pardon, this might be off-topic. I'm reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_switch For a setup of ~5 agents, would I be wrong in thinking that a generic 16 port unmanaged switch would fit the bill? The first model to come up for me in an Amazon search is: http://support.netgear.com/product/fs116 Is this a reasonable choice? Would I be wrong in thinking that most any Fast

cisco poe
I know this is on the wiki, I just want to confirm so I don't blow up my cisco phones. I've got several cisco 7940's all running using cisco power cubes. However, my boss wants me to switch just a few over to poe, but doesn't want to fork out the dough for a nice cisco poe switch, or anybody else's poe switch for that matter. So my question is, what is the '99.999%

Inexpensive Layer 3 Switch?
Any recommendations on an economical layer 3 switch? Preferably something that you have hands on experience with connecting to IP phones with attached PCs? Specifically I need the ability to set the VLAN in the phone to tag voice packets and to set a native VLAN on a per port basis on the switch to put the untagged packets from the attached PC into a separate VLAN. POE is not a requirement

Weird Samba upload performance on Gigabit network
Here's a weird one that may have nothing to do with Samba and more to do with network frame sizes. I have recently upgraded the network infrastructure to support gigabit speeds. - OSX Tiger to OSX Tiger file transfers operate at gigabit speeds. - Samba 3.0.23C (Suse 10) to OSX Tiger file transfers operate at gigabit speeds. - BUT OSX Tiger to Samba 3.0.23C (Suse 10) file transfers

Is Gigabit Ethernet necessary?
For an office that is using VoIP phones to connect to Asterisk, is gigabit ethernet really necessary for the Asterisk box to connect to the switch? I know that I won't even approach the limits of 100 Mbps, but would gigabit help with latency / collisions when several calls are underway? The fact is, anything going outside the office will be over a data T1, so intuition tells me that 100

Poor network performance on Dom0 [2.6.18-6-xen-amd64]
I am experiencing poor network performance on Dom0. When i ping other hosts on the same LAN, packets are out of order, and they show response times ranging from < 1 ms to several seconds, and some packets get lost. For example, a typical ping result looks like this: 87 packets transmitted, 80 received, +3 errors, 8% packet loss, time 86038ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev =

Cisco phones and Linksys SRW224P
I'm having problem powering Cisco phone's (7940 and 7905) on Linksys SRW224P switch (with PoE functionality). I have tested three phone's, one is working (7905) and two aren't (7905 and 7940). I have plugged all three phones on same switch port with same cable! Do I need to change anything in phone configuration? Is there something wrong with Linksys switch? How can I troubleshoot
