Win4Lin, MYOB, Samba & Performance
I'm having performance problems that seem to involve SAMBA in the
equation so I thought I'd ask if there was something obvious I'm
stuffing up or a known anomoly.
A mate of mine runs MYOB Premier (the brilliant (not!) multi-user
accounting package which claims to not support SAMBA (or visa versa).
I've had it running glitch free for two years on a Samba share off a
linux box.

Problem with Samba on Home Network
I have Samba set up on my Gentoo Linux Box. Our access to the internet
is through a broadband modem/router. Internet access in all instances is
fine. The problem is that one computer is not showing up in even its own
Network Neighborhood. I can access the files on this computer though
from the other computer.
Samba setup is as follows:

NeTraverse Win4Lin 5.0
Anybody get win4lin 5.0 running on CentOs? I have a Ibm Thinkpad 600
running centos 3.3. I tried running the win4lin installer which
downloaded a supported kernel and installed but when I went to reboot
the laptop, the drivers for my wireless card were missing along with usb
support. Then when the laptop went into run level 5 nothing happens.
Then the x server throughs an error about a bad config.

Quickbooks Pro 2000 on Win4Lin
Has anyone been able to make the Quickbooks Delivery Agent work under
Win4Lin? I find that it slows the system down to a crawl and it never
completes it's task. Removing the Delivery Agent is not a great solution
because Quickbooks won't perform certain functions, like writing a
paycheck, without it. Has anyone tried Quickbooks Pro 2001 under Win4Lin?
does it work any better?
Thanks,

Newbie wants to run Forte Agent
I'm new to the list and to Wine.
I loaded wine wine-0.9.7-i486-S10.2 into Slackware 10.1 in order to run
the Forte Agent newsreader. It was setup and running under Win4lin
which I have discontinued.
What would be the syntax to load Forte Agent and specify the old
"start-in" directory used under Win4lin?
wine ./agent something_for_start-in_directory ??
Does Wine have the

about plotting a special case
If you want colors mapped to the _values_ in DF1$C, there are a number
of ways to do it:
Color_unq<-color.scale(DF1$C,c(1,0),c(0,0,c(0,1))
This will produce colors from the lowest values (red) through the
highest (blue). See the help page for color.scale to get different
colors. With this you can use color.legend to add a mapping of the
values and colors.
If you just want different colors,

modify and append new rows in a dataframe
My data frame shows changes on the variable act which records the consecutive duration (in seconds) of two states (wet-dry) over a few days for several?individuals (identified by Ring). Since I want to work with daytime (i.e. from dawn till dusk) and night time (i.e. from dusk till next dawn), I have to split act in two: from time[i] till dusk and from dusk until time[i+1], and from time[k] till

Best way/practice to create a new data frame from two given ones with last column computed from the two data frames?
Dear expeRts,
What is the best approach to create a third data frame from two given ones, when
the new/third data frame has last column computed from the last columns of the two given
data frames?
## Okay, sounds complicated, so here is an example. Assume we have the two data frames:
df1 <- data.frame(Year=rep(2001:2010, each=2), Group=c("Group 1","Group 2"), Value=1:20)

re-code missing value
Dear all,
I have partial data set with four colums. First column is "site" with three
factors (i.e., A, B, and C). From second to fourth columns (v1 ~ v3) are my
observations. In the observations of the data set, "." indicates missing
value. I replaced "." with NA. To replace "." with NA, I used two steps.
First, I replaced "." with NA, and

aggregate taking way too long to count.
Folks,
I'm checking the structure of a dataframe for duplicate parameters at a
site station (i.e depth should be measured once, not twice), using
aggregate to count each parameter within a site station. The fake data
below has only 26000 rows, and takes roughly 14 seconds. My real data has
750000 rows and I had to stop execution after about an hour. The by()
function is faster, but I
