Wine not working, Slackware 10.2
Clean install of Slackware 10.2. Wine 0.9.20. Downloaded slackware package.
Installed with KPackage via KDE, no errors. I have several Windows apps that
I used under Wine with Slackware 10.0. I right click on executable, select
Wine Windows Emulator, I can see in the process table Wineserver,
wine-preloader, and wineprefixcreator(?). Then they all go away, and nothing
happens. It doesn't

Can the hole, fixed in latest libvorbis version, be triggered via webradio?
Hello,
I'm talking about the following hole:
http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=CVE-2009-2663
In Slackware 12.2, so far, the current libvorbis version is still 1.2.0.
My question is: I don't use ".OGG" files, but I regularly listen to a OGG webstream. Am I secure in this situation or could a corrupted webstream trigger the discussed bug?
Thanks in advance

Dom0 problems on Slackware 10.2
I''m running Xen 3.0.2 on a system that''s based on Slackware 10.2 as Dom0. DomU is also slackware 10.2. Am using the kernel that came with 3.0.2 - no custom config, just a "make world", etc.. Did have to add grub of course.
When I start up xend, I get the following on /var/adm/messages:
Apr 23 21:04:11 rc25 kernel: Bridge firewalling registered
Apr 23 21:04:11 rc25

How to get additional packages? How secure is Yum?
Hello,
I'm coming from Slackware and I'm searching for another distribution to run on my desktop and in near future also on a server.
The *top priority* for me is security!
I've test-installed CentOS on one of my test systems. So far anything went OK. After trying a bit, I would like to ask some questions:
- What is the suggested way to get *secure and trusted* additional packages?

Hello,
I am trying to compile R-2.2.0 on Slackware 10.2.
I did ./configure --prefix=/usr --build=i486-slackware-linux. It went
off without any problem and gave this configure status:
R is now configured for i486-slackware-linux-gnu

Installation error on old Slackware version 10.2
Not very important but installation of shorewall 4.4.14 (and probably
other versions) on a old Slackware system (10.2) fails:
install -T -o root -g root -m 0755 shorewall /sbin/shorewall
ERROR: Failed to install -T -o root -g root -m 0755 shorewall
/sbin/shorewall
Setting T="" instead of T="-T" in install.sh solves the problem but it
is not a solution.

Fedora, SuSE, Gentoo, Slackware as domU
Hi.
I need to use some other distributions other than Debian as a Xen domU.
These distributions are:
- Fedora Core 7
- Opensuse 10.2
- Gentoo 2007.0
- Slackware 11.0
- Ubuntu 6.06.1 Server
- Ubuntu 7.04 Server
- Centos 5.0
- Mandriva 2007
Could you tell me a way to install it as domU, please?
I searched for rpmstrap, but it supports only Fedora Core 4 and Centos 4...
Could you help me, please?

Not authenticating on Slackware domain member
I've found that in Slackware none of the programs are built for PAM. For example
ldd /bin/login
shows no libpam.so.0. Likewise for su, samba, sshd, and basically everything.
For whatever reason, Slackware doesn't believe in PAM. Does AD login/authentication from a
domain member absolutely *require* PAM?

Bug/feature: Slackware + openssh 2.1 does not work
Hello.
I've tried to install openssh to my Linux Slackware boxes, but it works
only for connecting to other hosts.
The bug is in the auth-passwd.c of pppd. Slackware has it's own (or just
an another) version of shadow package (if I've understood the
problem correctly) with it's own password encryption manner.
I do not use stuff like Kerberos, PAM etc.
As a result, the line

Samba 3.4.5 won't compile (Slackware)
Hallo,
I try to compile samba 3.4.5 in my slackware installation (slackware-
current).
Kernel compiling and compiling other packets works as desired.
I use the "samba.SlackBuild" script from slackware.org (changing the
version number of samba only).
<ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/linux/slackware/slackware_source/n/samba/samba.SlackBuild>

PORT BUG: openssh 2.3.0p1 in Linux Slackware 7
I'm running a Slackware 7-based Linux distribution. I had a problem using
openssh 2.3.0p1. Slackware 7 uses shadow passwords. Openssh picks up the
shadow password information correctly but doesn't encrypt the incoming
password properly so all password authentication fails.
The problem is that sshd *must* be compiled with the link flag
'-lcrypt' which includes libcrypt with the
