printing via samba w/ cups server
Hi,
I have a bizarre printing problem, and i think i've narrowed it down
to either samba, or the way windows packages the file to be printed.
I've recently implemented a new server. Users print through the
linux server from their windows desktop machines.
OLD server:
-samba 2.0.7, which uses lpd
NEW server:
-samba 2.2.3, which uses cups
The old server can print to the printer (Savin

Printing via Cups uses lpr ??
Hi everybody,
since I got printing working with wine 0.9.15 I just upgraded to 0.9.20
on a Debian etch system.
I got libwine-cups installed, and I can print from notepad and some
other applications, but not what I expected.
All I get is a printout that looks like this:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0
%%Creator: Wine PostScript Driver
%%Title: Whatever
And dozens of blank

reference classes, LAZY_DUPLICATE_OK, and external pointers
We (the lme4 authors) are having a problem with doing a proper deep
copy of a reference class object in recent versions of R-devel with
the LAZY_DUPLICATE_OK flag in src/main/bind.c enabled.
Apologies in advance for any improper terminology.
TL;DR Is there an elegant way to force non-lazy/deep copying in our
case? Is anyone else using reference classes with a field that is an
external pointer?

Printing via Wine
Hi all,
I am working hard at moving all of my desktop to windows. Two apps I
have yet to find good replacements for are a CD Label program (CD
Stomper) and DeLorme STreet Atlas 6. Both install fine and seem to work
great. Except when it comes to printing. We have three printers, a large
networked ps printer, and two hp's. We use lpr and have all three
working with no issues in linux.
We

Suppressing headers, printing via NT
I've just set up lpd to print to a postscript printer attached to an NT
server, using the Redhat 5.2 version of the smbprint command. Eventually
I'd like this machine to be the department's standard lpr->SMB gateway.
It works perfectly, except that since smbclient always logs onto the NT
server with the same ID, no matter who prints the job, the same
NT-generated banner page gets

Print on HP deskjet via Samba 3
Hi list,
I have troubles with printing on a HP Deskjet 1220C (connected on
network through jet direct device).
I have a print server, which use LPRng and allow clients to print on
this 1220c printer as well as laserjet printers.
If client is Linux, I can print on all printers. So I guess my LPRng
config is good.
Another server runs Samba 3. This server's printcap redirect jobs to my

Printing via SMB-Kerberos no longer works
Hello,
After upgrading from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 printing via SMB-Kerberos no longer works (printing still works in 18.04 when I print via SMB but I don't want to have the password stored in clear text in /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb).
In 16.04 I can just type "lpr file.pdf", but when doing this in 18.04 I get "Password for [myuser] on localhost?" and it expects me to type

SOLVED : (NEW Printing FAQ Question) : After almost every reboot, Samba printing is DOA under Solaris 2.6...
Ok.. Just a little follow-up on my Solaris printing problem that I was
having!
As it turns out, I put the fully-qualified path names to the print commands
(lpr/lpq/lprm, etc) in the samba config file (smb.conf) and all of my
printing
problems have disappeared! Now, after a clean reboot of the OS (Solaris,
not PC), I can log on to Samba and directly print -- instead of it silently
failing!

Printing with lpr or lprng without two copy
Hello!
We're using samba to manage our HP LaserJet 8000, which is a very fast and
high capable printer. So we need the best performance, when we
printing. The problem is when samba receive a file for printing it's
copying the file to a tmp directory, and after that the lpr is copying
this file out to its own spool directory. For example, where a 300M
printing job is arriving from a

After almost every reboot, Samba printing is DOA under Solaris 2.6...
I just thought that I would put this out there and see if anyone else
sees this problem with Samba 1.9.18p4 (under Solaris 2.6).
It appears that after some reboots of Solaris, Samba printing is partly
dead. What I see in the logs are below, and what happens is that the
file to be printed is spooled to /var/spool/samba, like always, but
when the lpr command is issued it croaks. I've been

Zaptel compile problems
I'm having difficulties getting zaptel to compile. I've compiled it in
the past and never had any difficulties to speak of, but on this
particular machine I have problems. The OS configuration is the same as
I've used in the past and the hardware is identical. Obviously there's
some subtle difference (probably with the packages installed, but I
haven't been able to locate
