Problem with security and Samba 2.0.7
Hi I have loaded Redhat 7.1 onto my machine at home (i386) and all is well except when I try to fire up samba. I have a second windows machine which mounts a data drive on the linux server. I am utilising my old config file which, with Mandrake 7.0 was working fine (and with 2.0.6 samba I think). The daemons appear to come up ok. When I run testparm all is OK except an error that (and I dont

Caught between a Red Hat and a CentOS
Interesting column at CNET... http://news.cnet.com/8301-13505_3-10376762-16.html ~~ "Novell has been positioning itself as the Avis of Linux, a distant but gaining Red Hat competitor that "tries harder." Like Oracle, Novell argues that it can give customers Red Hat value at a lower price. "There's just one problem with this marketing spin: the "low-cost

[OT]Example Data for Non-statisticians
(Sorry for the slightly off topic post) I'm giving a talk (on data mining) to some non-statisticians (who're all postgrad students, but a mixture of Science and Commerce majors). My intention is to show them the importance of statistics when doing data mining. What I'm thinking of doing is using, hopefully, two datasets. One from scientific area and another that is

mongrel, monit, and the many, many messages
Monit 4.9, Mongrel 1.0.1, Rails 1.2.6, Mac OS X 10.4.11 (PPC) I don''t know whether this is a mongrel issue or a monit issue. I''m trying to poke my way around a system set up by someone else. I have no more experience w/ mongrel that local Rails dev at this point, and a conceptual understanding of how monit is working. I have the Deploying Rails beta book, and I''m

Finding out the number of times a loop has run
Hi, Suppose I have: for(i in 1:100000) rnorm(100000) (just a fake example, as my actual example is too long) Is it possible to get the loop to print out i each time it has run? Something like: for(i in 1:100000) { print(i) rnorm(100000) } will only print i after the loop is completed. But if I want to print out i whenever it re-enters the loop, is it possible (so I know how

gsub() on Matrix
Hi, Suppose I've got a matrix, and the first few elements look like "x1 + x3 + x4 + x5 + x1:x3 + x1:x4" "x1 + x2 + x3 + x5 + x1:x2 + x1:x5" "x1 + x3 + x4 + x5 + x1:x3 + x1:x5" and so on (have got terms from x1 ~ x14). If I want to replace all the x1 with i7, all x2 with i14, all x3 with i13, for example. Is there an easy way? I tried to put what I want

oVirtBIOS : Virtualization Firmware
Misters, Let me introduce myself : Guillaume FORTAINE, Engineer in Computer Science. Me and my partners are currently working on a Virtualization Firmware. After an analysis of the various solutions (Citrix, VMware and Microsoft), it seemed natural to our eyes, to enable a true bare-metal hypervisor, to go as close as possible to the hardware, hence the BIOS. That's why we are currently
