Lotus 123 with Wine
Am a newbee to Linux and am trying to evaluate various distros to see how they fit my needs. For this purpose I now have six trial Linux partitions on the same machine. My other criterions to replace XP as my main system have been passed by all the distros, but remains the last one: to be able to handle Lotus wk4-files. That is where I have my history.
First tried installing Lotus 123 from

roaming profile unusable after smb ports = 139
Hello,
I have a big problem with a samba setup.
After I tried the config option
smb ports = 139
in the global section, 90% of the roaming profiles are not
usable by the windows XP clients.
Removing the smb ports options didn't help.
No errors in the samba logfile.
erasing the profiles seems to fix the issue, but I cannot
afford losing all my users profile data!
here is my smb.conf.

stat() failed with mbox /var/mail/%u
Hello,
Over the last 12 hours or so, I've been wrestling with a mysterious
dovecot issue. After upgrading a mail server I'm helping my friend with
maintaining from Fedora Core1 to Fedora Core4, I realized that I
couldn't use UW-IMAP4 anymore (well, I can compile it myself, but it
turned out that UW-IMAP was the main cause of the server's having load
average as high as 30 from

2) make -> make check -> make install
and then issuing on shell prompt (red lines are error messages)

"Duplicate header extension keywords" is the only known problem (or if I
forgot something, remind me). I'll try to figure out a way to reproduce
it easily and then get it fixed.

matchname messages filling logs - howto stop?
Listmates,
I have had a few boxes where the 'matchname' message is filling my syslog with
one new message ever ~40 seconds or so. No performance problems, just the log
annoyance. An example of the messages are:

lib/util_sock.c:1685(get_peer_name)

The saga continues, but THANK GOD 'make revert' WORKS. Here is my
problem. I am trying to compile 3.0.7 from source and install it on my
Mandrake 7.2 box. The gcc compiler is 2.95.3. Here is what I have done:
[stop samba]
# ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-smbmount
# make
# make install
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start
Here is what I get:

Slow Copy WinXX - Linux/Samba :-(
I never thought it would happen to me, but it did...
I have read threads about slow copies from WinXX to Linux/Samba on the
list in the past, but I don't recall a concise answer regarding what the
cause was.
THE PROBLEM:
Trying to copy an 8 meg file from Win95 to my Linux/Samba box (named
"Nemesis" - for good reason), the transfer speed slows to a crawl. The
