no mp3s with ices2!? an other way?
> Best wishes > Stefan (on second thought ) :: my last post assumed that you had .OGG files to begin with .. depending on the size of your library, you may want to convert your mp3s to ogg . i ended up doing this , and it made things much simpler on the web end . also ; check out dir2ogg .. echo "dir2ogg written by Darren Kirby; linuxbot@shaw.ca; www.badcomputer.no-ip.com/"

question about use MP3s with LAME on Icecast
Hi. Is it possible (legally) to stream MP3s on Icecast that have been encoded with LAME encoder (http://lame.sourceforge.net/license.txt)? So if a composer writes a track, then saves in MP3 with LAME, and wants to distribute with Icecast server, is it legal? Must he get license for MP3 (http://mp3licensing.com/royalty/emd.html) and pay any royalties for MP3 DISTRIBUTING or STREAMING as it stated

Hoping to not have to re-invent the wheel
Anyone have a good way to knock my 160kbit mp3s down to 56k real time using *nix? Even if it is beta sorta working code, anyone have anything even close to fast enough to do this? matt --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only

ices and VBR mp3s?
I posted a while back about having trouble with ices 0.2.2 being able to re-encode VBR mp3s, and the response was that ices 0.2.2 did not reencode VBR mp3s. Are there any plans to include such support in future ices versions? If so, any ideas as to when such versions would become available? Thanks, -- "Shall life renew these bodies of a truth? streaming MP3s?
Ok, icecast is up and running, but only ogg-files. Any way to stream MP3s? I got my whole CD-Collection as MP3s and am just to lazy to convert the whole stuff. <p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only the word

"Decent" sub-$100 SIP phone.
Hey, all. I quoted a customer about $100 for some cheap SIP phones. I was planning on using the BT-102's, but he called said they look like "Princess phones," and I have to admit that he has a point. Some of the other inexpensive phones look decent, but (for example) the SPA-841's wiki entry says the remote end gets a lot of static. Since it'll be being used from a noisy

no mp3s with ices2!? an other way?
Hi: My understanding was that the ices 0.x app was still being maintained. If it doesn't work with icecast2, and I've not personally tried it, then there's some problem with either ices 0.x or icecast2 and it needs to be fixed. icecast2 should also accept shoutcast-style MP3 streams as well, and again if this doesn't work, it's a bug that needs fixing. I don't see a lot

How to generate core dump?
Asterisk segfaulted on me the other day; how do I tell it to generate a core file so -- if it happens again -- I can attempt to debug? I looked in the obvious places in "make menuconfig" and didn't see anything appropriate. Thanks, -Ken -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean.

Recent inability to view long filenames stored with scp via samba mount
Greetings Samba team, It has been a long time since I needed to ask a Samba technical question. Server and workstation are both running the latest Samba packages via Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. I recently applied the security updates... actually that was yesterday I applied them. > samba (2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.23) xenial-security; urgency=medium > > * SECURITY UPDATE: client code can

Google Voice-like feature.
I'd *really* like to be able to have a call ring three different cell phones; then, if someone answers, they have to somehow acknowledge the call for it to be directed to them. That way, if one of the phones is off, or out of range, it doesn't go straight to that phone's voicemail. Asterisk 1.4 -- though I could probably upgrade. Suggestions on how to make this happen? Thanks!

Three (quick?) questions...
[Please excuse if this is a repeat; I initially tried to send it from a different account, and it's been held up for a couple of days awaiting moderation.] 1) What's the absolute minimum required (hardware-wise) in order to get one in-bound POTS line into Asterisk, and then have IP phones "inside?" ices 0.2.2 does not reencode mp3s
I recently upgraded ices from 0.1.0 to 0.2.2. I have found that it is not reencoding my mp3 stream, even though I have it configured to. This is on a RedHat linux 7.0 system, kernel 2.4.11 ices build commands: ./configure --with-perl --with-lame \ --with-lame-includes=/usr/local/src/lame-3.89/include \ --with-lame-libraries=/usr/local/src/lame-3.89/libmp3lame/.libs gmake

Your "favorite" Asterisk application.
Hi, all. I've done some Asterisk recelling, but recently got roped into a Sr. SysAdmin position. Our PBX is c. 1823, and -- well, as pretty much all circuit-based systems do, it sucks. It sucks to administer, moves suck... you know the drill. So, I'd love change to an Asterisk system. My boss, who loves to spend money for no particular reason, wants to go proprietary, though. So

MP3s in /var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3 causes Asterisk crash
Hi All, I have just compiled the newest version of mpg123 on a RedHat 9.0 system (mpg321 has not been installed) and I am using the newest CVS version of asterisk. Whenever I place any mp3 files in the /var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3/ directory, Asterisk crashes a horrible fiery death. If mp3s exist in that directory, then I can't even start Asterisk. If I start it without files then copy
