Asterisk 1.4.42 NOTIFY replies ignore NAT setting
Hi,
I've been trying to fix NOTIFY replies (specifically keep-alives) in 1.4.42
(I can't upgrade to 1.8.x at the moment for various reasons).
I've noticed for user agents that have a VIA header with a different
port than the port the NOTIFY was sent from,
the NOTIFY reply will always be sent back to that port, which is incorrect.
(Sonicwalls and other routers love to do this, even

IAX2 + Sonicwall
Hi all,
I currently have an Asterisk test server behind a TZ170 Sonicwall
firewall / NAT box, with several DIDs.
I've found that inbound IAX2 calls don't work reliably (i.e., I get a
busy tone) unless I enable "Use Consistent NAT" in the Sonicwall. This
feature is poorly documented by Sonicwall, so I thought I'd pass it along.
Has anyone else run into this, or figured

Dovecot pop3 and SonicWall?
Hello
Has anyone else run into a problem with dovecot pop3 and sonicwall? A
week after switching to dovecot we had two local customers call and
report they could no longer download emails with attachments. It
turned out to be the email macro filter on the router. After the first
report I thought maybe the customer had just changed something or it
was a fluke, but then a day later we had the

Sonicwall with Firmware 6.6.02 - SIP?
Sonicwall now has "SIP transformations" check box in
the Access section of the interface - does anyone know
how to make sense of this function? Tech support is
useless, and the help description is confusing. Using
on office network to connect Grandstream and Cisco
phones to asterisk PBX at remote location. I hate to

Node behind SonicWall Router
Recently the small business I work at replaced an aging linksys wrt
style router with a SonicWall one. Ever since this change I have issues
with this node falling back to TCP constantly. TCP for me ends up
performing very sub-par, and most of the time unworkable. For some
reason too the connection usually ends up being routed through another node.
I created a new tinc instance using TAP

iax behind a SonicWall
Current dev cvs install on two systems. System A is behind a SonicWall
firewall, and system B is on a registered IP address. (System B has
multiple iax links that are fully functional to multiple locations.)
System A is correctly registering with System B, with no special firewall
rules.
Should System B be able to take advantage of the "registration" to send
iax/gsm calls to System A

T38 Fax Gateway for Asterisk 1.6
Hi,
I remember seeing a T38 Gateway application for Asterisk 1.6 floating
around, but I can't seem to find it again.
Does anyone have any pointers to it? I really want to be able to send
an incoming T38 connection directly to the PSTN.
Thanks.

Behind Firewalls, SonicWalls, etc..
I've searched the archives a bit and have not really come up with
a good answer to my queries.
I have * running on a RH9 box behind a LinkSys NAT box. I can talk
with iConnectHere outbound just fine. I am trying to configure an
inbound Xten softphone from outside. I have that user set as NAT in
sip.conf (seems to help), but I still cannot establish a full session.
I think the problem comes

Browsing and Mapped Drives over a VPN
Hello All:
I have a situation where I have a Samba box (RH 7.3 w/samba 2.2.4) that I
set up for a client. Another consultant came along and installed a VPN
using SonicWalls between the main site and a remote site. So now they want
the remote users to save files on my Samba box. No problem except that the
remote users can't see my local workgroup or any of the local machines.

Asterisk in VMWare, how does it perform and what is the limit?
Hi,
I'm coming up with ideas about building a cluster of asterisk servers,
and am exploring the virtualization option.
I'm curious to know some real-world data about how many extensions a
VMWare install on good hardware could support.
I've seen stories about how the hypervisor timeslicing can wreak havoc
on call quality at some point.
Is this really the case? If so, what's a

Unusable performance over WAN (part 2)
Hi all,
Disregard my previous posts, I've consolidated everything here.
I'm having terrible performance issues with samba over a WAN
(point-to-point T1 link).
Doing a copy of a 2MB file from a samba server to a linux client
running smbclient takes over 5 minutes.
SCPing the same file takes seconds.
The server is running samba version 3.0.25c with kernel 2.6.16.18.
I've put up a set

All lines occupied notification from endpoint
Hi,
I've noticed that if I have a multi-line linksys (942 or 962) phone
with the same sip registration mapped to each line key, that if all
the lines are full the phone will accept another call. I would expect
the phone to respond with "busy" so the call would to directly to
voicemail.
Has anyone else experienced this and know of a workaround? I know it

NetBIOS over ipsec using samba
I am sure someone has had success getting NetBIOS names to transfer from one
side of a VPN to the other, but I'm not that person (yet). I have read all
available documentation and newsgroups and have exhausted my patience. I
have a linux box running 2.4.21 kernel with Freeswan on each end of a VPN
(its working). I have "Arno's iptables" firewall installed on each end (It

Increasing samba performance
Hi.
Between 2 linux (2.6.11 client and 2.6.14 server) machines connected by
a 100Mb link I get samba performance copying a file from the client to
the server through a smbmounted share of around 4.2MB/s
Is this to be expected? Or can it be improved (and if so, how?) I've
tried tweaking SO_(SND/RCV)BUF (after reading numerous articles on
samba performance...), but it doesn't seem to have

High resident memory with 11.14.0 ?
Also, how big does the cache in frame.c grow to?
I've recompiled with MALLOC_DEBUG on that server:
asterisk -rx "memory show summary"
....
1780466242 bytes (1780181594 cache) in 2352909 allocations in file
frame.c
...
Seems like a ridiculous cache.

Maximum number of PRI calls on 1 asterisk box (no HW echo)
Hi,
Does anyone have any good empirical data suggesting what the maximum
number of PRI calls (incoming and outgoing)
without hardware echo cancellation can be handled on a single box is?
I have a TE410P T1 (1st gen) card and I'm seeing interesting errors of
D-Channels going down and then coming back up (See below).
I've looked at the number of simultaneous calls at each of these
points,

Phones dropping registration, but asterisk thinks phones are still registered
Hi,
I have a serious problem with Asterisk 1.4.18.
Every so often, usually after Asterisk has been running for a few days
consistently, phones start dropping registrations.
However, when this happens, doing a "sip show peer" on those
extensions shows them as "OK".
Therefore, I have no way to tell this problem is happening until
customers start calling.
The only way to fix it is
