Inability to proceed with installation of Windows app
I used to use Windows; now I use Linux. One application I used under Windows was MS Money; under Linux, I've been using Gnucash instead. However, Gnucash has been causing me some problems recently, so I thought of trying to use Wine to run my old copy of MS Money under Linux. I downloaded and installed an RPM of Wine for my distribution, wine-core-0.9.16-2.fc3.i386.rpm. That done, I used

For now I have been able to do what I need, except for the projection utility... it seems that I am missing some dll, but I have no clue which ones could be... If somebody knows the solution, please let me know. I am new to Wine, and have no clue how to search for the right dll... Thanks a lot to all of you and to this great Wine-project!!! Petra

Arcview .iwg temporary file
We have about 15 file servers with samba (version 3.05, 3.0.14 and 3.0.22) on Redhat 7.1-7.3 and FC4. Opening on it with arcview a .dwg file is fine, it creates a good temporary .iwg (some MB), like using the file on a local disk. Only in one installation (RH 7.3 updated, with kernel 2.4.20-28, samba 3.0.5 and 3.0.22) we have a problem. Arcview write always a .iwg file with a 8 byte size, and

Slow Network performance with ArcView and Samba
Hi, We are experiencing a very slow network when loading files from the Samba server (Samba V1.9.18p4 on Digital Unix V4.0B). A file transfer of a 5 MB file from the samba server to a NT Workstation with FTP takes about 10 seconds. The transfer of the same file with using the NT-Explorer takes also about 10 seconds. The load of the same file (it is a tiff file) with a application called

Slow directory listing in ERmapper and ArcView
Hello, I'm running Samba 2.0.6 on a Sun Ultra1 as a file and print server for a GIS teaching lab. Samba has solved a bunch of problems for us but one serious one remains. Getting a large directory listing from within two applications, ERMapper 5.5 and ArcView 3.1 running on win95, is a factor of 10 slower than getting the same listing from a local drive or a win95 machine serving SMB.

AutoCad and ArcView
Hello all, Just curious if anyone else has a SAMBA server that is serving up AutoCad and ArcView files to users on Windows. We are utilizing a RAID 5 setup on dual 2.8 GHZ 4 GB RAM Intel Controller card (all latest firmware, BIOS etc...etc..) Only 4 users are accessing the server, but it seems after a few days the server starts to choke up, lock files, and it causes a hardware issue. (We

Re: Error testing deploying Grizzly
I believe the error indicates that hiera was installed as a rubygem which is not supported on Puppet 3.x. Maybe the error will go away if you remove the hiera gems? I think I have gotten around it by adding ''require rubygems'' to the puppet executable. I''m copying the puppet-users mailing list b/c I am guessing this is a common problem. Now I'm hoping someone on this list has an idea (In fact, I already reported the problem to the mailing list but got only one reply which did not help) So I'm here for another try... ArcView + Samba: Performance nightmare under Linux, o k under Solaris or HP-UX
Have you checked the network end of things? This is the same type of thing I see when the NIC and ethernet switch don't autonegotiate to the same settings. Hope I didn't step on anybody's toes here. I'm new to the list. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tony Hoover, Network Administrator KSU - Salina, College of Technology and
