Assistance with data import from Statistica
I am a new R user attempting to convert files from Statistica to R. I can export from Statistica to SPSS .por format, but not to the SPSS .sav format. Is there a procedure for easily accomplishing this, which will allow me to keep variable short and long labels (big surveys LOTS of time to replace all this work). Many thanks for sharing your time and knowledge. steve Dr Steven M Burgess

Fwd: Recall function: "evaluation nested too deeply: infinite recursion / options(expressions=)?"
hello all i searched the archives and couldn't get a solution to the following question. i have the following function: F=function(z,v) { if (v==-.5) return(1) else return(2*v/z + 1/Recall(z,v-1)) } and while testing whether it works (ie F(z,v) is approx = besselK(z,1+v)/besselK(z,V). the recursion formula allows one to calculate besselK(z,1+v)/besselK(z,V) for large values of z )

Selecting elements in vector
Hi Consider the following code > x <- rep(1:13, 13) > y <- 1:3 I want to select all elements in x which are equal to 1, 2 or 3. I know that I could use > sel <- x==y[1] | x==y[2] | x==y[3] > x[sel] to obtain the values, but in my analysis, the y-vector is thousands of elements long. Is there any way, that I can do that easily? Thanks Rainer -- Rainer M. Krug, Dipl.

More than 2 seasons work fine but with 2 seasons I get this error: > fit <- StructTS(y.ts, type="BSM") Error in T[cbind(ind + 1L, ind)] <- 1 : subscript out of bounds I have looked at Prof. Ripley's 2002 RNews article but cannot

doMC - compiler - concatenate an expression vector into a single expression?
Hi, this post is about foreach operators, the compiler package and the last update of doMC that includes support for the compiler functionality. I am using a home-made %dopar%-like operator that adds some custom expression to be executed before the foreach loop expression itself (see sample code below). It used to work perfectly with doMC 1.2.1, but with the introduction of the compiler

getNativeSymbolInfo("user_unif_rand") returns different results on windows and linux
Hi, When loading a package that provides the user-supplied RNG hook user_unif_rand, calling getNativeSymbolInfo("user_unif_rand") returns informations about the loaded symbol. I am using this to identify which package currently provides the RNG hook. The results are the same on windows and linux if only one library provides the hook. If one loads a second package that provides this

url, readLines, source behind a proxy
Hi, when I run R CMD check with flag --as-cran, the process hangs at stage: * checking CRAN incoming feasibility ... I am pretty sure it is a proxy issue. I looked at the check code in the tools package and it seems that the issue is in the local function `.repository_db()` (defined in `tools:::.check_package_CRAN_incoming()`), which eventually calls `url()` with argument
