File permissions
Is it possible to define file rights, such that -
The file is owned by root, with full privleges on the Linux server.
The file is shared by a group "users".
The shared file should be available for read and write access.
That part's easy - but now....
Deny delete, overwrite, or rename access to this file. Is this possible?

mscomctl.ocx
Greetings Flac-landers,
I have a brand new puter with xp pro 2002 sp2.
I downloaded flac-1.1.4b and installed, but when I ran the installed software, it told me that it was unable to run as I do not have mscomctl.ocx on my system. I searched my puter and indeed it is not on it anywhere.
I looked all over the site for the prerequisites needed to install, but did not find them.
Can someone

Wine-20041019.tar.gz
Dear List,
My 'puter runs SuSE Linux version 8.0
I have just compiled and installed, using ./tools/wineinstall

The compile and install appeared to go smoothly without error messages,
and was installed using 'su' to root.
But, a segmentation faults prevents me from starting Wine :-(
Please, is there a remedy to fix this ?
Thank you,
Richard

Possible Error in rsync 3.0.9
Hi
I was using rsync with the following options
rsync -aPH --exclude-from=/var/tmp/ignorelist /home/me/
/run/media/me/ADATA\ #2/rsync-me/
and I was creating a copy of a home directory on my Linux machine. It
went along for sometime (some 30,000 files) when it stopped with the

smbusers and root privs
Running samba-3.0.23c on Genoo linux
Is it possible with smbusers to allow a windows user to have root
privleges on a linux share?
A stock install of samba on Gentoo ends up with an /etc/samba/smbusers
file that contains this mapping:
root = administrator admin
It appears then that other windows users could as well be mapped to
root like:
root = administrator admin harry
and since I am the

MS Paint with wine?
Hi all,
I'm relatively new to Ubuntu and I will most likely install WINE on my next desktop for gaming.
However my present puter is an Acer netbook and I would like to run MS Paint on it. I know you will tell me there are a lot of other Ubuntu apps that can do the job but I want MS Paint and it would be nice if I didn't have to log in and out of OS's just to access MS Paint from time

How do you create a tree strucutre with ActiveRecord
I want to build an application that has the concept of administrative
domains. What I mean by this is that administrators have access to
different data, based on what domains they are a member of. The domain
strucutre is hierarchical. Here is an example:
- MLB
- AL
- East
- Yankees
- Red Sox
...
+ Central
+ West
- NL

Logon script with Administrator rights
I am using a .bat logon script (the same for all users) and it avoids that I
have to configure each user manually. But now I have to run a command that
requires administrator rights on two files, and the command I write in the
.bat file doesn't work.
Do you know how to run the logon script as the local machine Administrator?
After all, the logon script is on the server and only me can

Windows 'Administrator rights'
Hi,
I'm taking a look at installing Autocad 2005. The installation
program starts but then tells me I have to log in with administrator
rights. I looked through the config file (wine-20041019) but didn't
find anything that looks like it will enable Windows Administrator
rights. How can I get this to work?
Off to Google in parallel.
Thanks much,
Mark

SeDiskOperatorPrivilege and 2012 R2 domain
Giving a domain user group privilege SeDiskOperatorPrivilege fails with
NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_PRIVILEGE.
The domain is controlled by a MS 2012 R2 DC. Has this privilege been
renamed or replaced with some other privilege? How to give the domain user
group necessary rights for defining file share permission settings from MS
environment?
The RHEL 7 file server is running Samba 4.1.1-38 and the id

SeDiskOperatorPrivilege and 2012 R2 domain
(Re-posting to list also.. Sorry forgot Cc. -Tom)
Marc,
Thanks for your help and clarifications. I was indeed addressing the domain
controller (2012 R2) due to my misunderstanding. Addressing the request at
the file server (Samba 4) to the file server fails too but with different
errors. Rights list succeeds.

Cannot access Samba shares with local Administrator rights on XP
Hi,
I've got a strange problem and Google did not help :-(
I cannot access any Samba share if I have local Administrator rights
on my XP machine < access denied >. As soon as I change my rights to
something else (e.g. Power user, User), access works fine. This
behaviour only affects this one XP machine, all others work well, even
with local Admin rights.
Any clue?

how to get logon.bat run with Administrator rights in domain logons?
On win XP Pro workstations it would be so convenient if the domain logon script which is stored on
the samba pdc could be made to run with Administrative (or System) privileges.
I know that I can interactively run another security context by choosing "run as user" but how could
I achieve this non-interactively and domain wide whilst a "limited account" is loggin in?
Thanks
