Expect Deadlock!
Running some company specific software, which is an exam/test. Designed for Windows OS machines. On Vista machines it requires the addition of the msvbvm50.dll. When installed in WINE, it has required the addition of jet40 and vb5run in winetricks to make the program run. The program runs fine, until it works out if the user passed or failed. Fails it reports with no error. When the user passes

Data Access problem?
Running some company specific software, which is an exam/test. It runs fine on Windows OS machines. On Vista machines it requires the addition of the msvbvm50.dll. The exam has a minimum of two sections of questions, say topic A, and topic B. When installed in WINE, it has required the addition of jet40 and vb5run in winetricks to make the program run. I have successfully installed this from the CDs, and I can start using the following DLL overrides / config: [AppDefaults\\CorelDrw.exe\\Version] "Windows"="nt40" [AppDefaults\\CorelDrw.exe\\WinMM] "Drivers" = "" [AppDefaults\\CorelDrw.exe\\DllOverrides] "wintab32" =

TortoiseCVS
Hi, I'm trying to use TortoiseCVS under Linux (through Wine). I'd like to eventually write some shell scripts to invoke it properly from Nautilus but that is still a ways off. Some of Tortoise's functionality works, like enumerating the code modules in the CVS repository. However, actually checking out code works for the first file but then fails:

Starting win32 hlds.exe in wine
This is an issue I went round and round about a while ago, but did not have time to resolve. I posted this at linuxquestions.org, but this is really a wine issue. Forgive me for posting a subject that was once discussed at length as I've lost the responces people sent. I have Slackware 10.0 running, and have used for quite a while. I run the Windows Half-Life OP4 server using wine. To start

Galactic Civilizations
Hi, I'm trying to run the game Galactic Civilizations [http:// www.galciv1.com/] on my Ubuntu 6.10 system. Setup seemed to run fine, but running "wine galciv.exe" shows the initial videos (Strategy First splash, Stardock splash, game FMV intro), but then the screen flashes and crashes to the desktop, with desktop resolution changed to 1024x768 (usually 1280x1024). I'm guessing

Wine and Skype
I am currently running Skype version 1.3 on a Linux Mandriva 2006 system. It works well, but the Windows version is really superior, supporting several interesting features missing from the Linux version. So I tried to use wine for that. I am not familiar with wine (never need Windows programs, really) and I tried to use what had been installed by Mandriva. Testing wine, it's all right with

New Ubuntu user, read FAQ, need help testing Galactic Civili
1) I read the FAQ. It say use wine 1.4. Synaptic says 1.3 is the latest available. Is this a problem? I have the PPA loaded into synaptic. 2) Database says Galactic Civilizations (2004 game from Stardock) works, but doesn't for me. Of course the last test is about 5 years old. I can get it to install and I can get the program to start running, but after configuring the galaxy things crash. I

I have installed the game plus the Galactic Adventures expansion without any problems, but when I try to run it I get a black screen and an error box stating "The program SporeApp.exe has encountered a serious problem and need to exit" Below is the output from the terminal. Any ideas on what might be causing this. I have update the graphics

Strange display error.
I have just had a recurring hardware problem with my graphics card, a modern NVidia one with Mandriva's driver. I suspect that it is dust getting into the socket. It set itself up in framebuffer mode. Anyway, it is now working, and seems to be behaving normally, except... All my apps under Wine still work fine except the one that matters, the jigsaw program. V4L + Theora small app...
Hi all. I post a small app I made that create 2 clips using a V4L device. I would like to get every tips you think it's useful... Some notes: - I make 2 clips because in our project we create series of clips and it's important to check that the all the resources ( memory, descriptors, etc. ) are freed correctly and to reuse all the resources that can be reused - the clips are not well

Starfury again
Hmm, no one bit on my previous question about Space Empires Starfury... all right, this time I've got a little bit of technical info which might be helpful - here's what the terminal prints prior to the game crashing and requiring a kill -9 to get rid of it: fixme:font:load_VDMX Failed to retrieve vTable fixme:ddraw:DirectDrawEnumerateExA no non-display devices supported.
