PCL vs. PCL 6
I am currently using samba to try and replace a windows NT box
as the default print server. All is working well except for
one printer driver. All drivers were installed from a win2k
machine onto the samba print$ share.
The problem that I'm having is with a driver for the HP laser
jet 4000N printer. The PCL driver works and loads quickly.
The PCL 6 driver works, but the properties

pcl to pdf
Everyone,
I am currently using a vsifax program (pcltotiff) to convert pcl files
to tiff files on a SCO Unix box, and then I am using tiff2pdf on a
Centos 5.9 box to convert the file to a pdf.
There are other commands that deal with multiple page tiff's and pdf's
that are part of the process, but the above basic process has worked
very well. The only thing I would like to enhance is a

Filtering ^D and PCL headers in samba print jobs under Solaris
This is my way of filtering ^D and PCL headers
out of samba jobs on a solaris 7 system.
It assumes that all your printers are capable of postscript,
and that you are using PS drivers on any printers are not PCL capable.
1) Add a declaration of pcl capability to the relevant printers:
lpadmin -p hp8000 -I 'simple,postscript,pcl'
Choose which printers you do this to carefully,

Strange Problem with Sharp PCL Printer Drivers
Hi,
we have a strange problem with the Sharp PCL printer driver for the AR-M450.
Someone in the list seems to have the very same problem with a Sharp AR-286
printer. This is what he wrote:

Problem with Sharp AR-286 PCL Printer
I am having a problem getting the PCL driver for the Sharp AR-286 working.
This is an LPD network printer. I created a queue on our Redhat Samba server
using the raw driver. The windows drivers uploaded to the Samba server
without a problem. But whenever I try to print anything to the printer it
comes out garbled.
I installed the postscript drivers for the same printer without any problem

Print speed with an HP Laserjet 4
I've also posted this message to the lprng list, but as I'm currently
not sure where the problem lies, I'm posting it here too in the hope
that someone has a clue.....
I have recently installed a printer accounting system on my systems, and
changed the print model for some of my users. In most cases, this has
been fine, but users who are using HP Laserjet 4 printers are

Dear all
samba 3.0.2pre1-1
cups 1.1.20
i am testing the CUPS printing on Samba 3.0.2pre1-1 and so far we have
a good impression about the system
We want to use only Postscript for our printers.
The cupsaddsmb tool works great and printing with the cups driver is
fine.
The Add Printer Wizard for uploading vendor specific for the PCL 5
drivers is working fine and printing is working.

Printing problem: printing control characters
Hi folks:

Samba v: 2.2.1a

Gutenprint - Gimp - Color pcl files
Everyone,
I am trying to create a 'color' *.pcl from a pdf file with the use of
gimp and the gutenprint gimp plugin. I have done this easily to
create a black & white *.pcl file, but have not found a way to create a
file that contains the 'color' commands for an HP laser printer.
I am running Centos 7.5 with all of the latest updates. gutenprint-

Printing problem - Spooled files won't print
Hi,
I have some trouble getting files printed on my Solaris 8 machine running
Samba 2.0.5.
The client is a winxp installed laptop, the printer is configured as a
postscript printer (Minolta PagePro 12 PS), although it is a PCL printer
(Minolta PagePro 6).

Savin Copier Print Processor
I have FreeBSD 5.3 running on an Sun Ultra 10. I installed Samba 3.03, from patching SWAT now says version 3.07. I am having an issue printing from Windows through Samba to Savin copiers (model 9935DPE and 9945DPE) when downloading the Windows drivers directly from the [print$] share. When I print a test page, the orientation of the lettering is correct but the letters are gibberish. The

Mail Merge data to a pdf file by overlaying the data on the image
Everyone,
I am looking for a utility that I can use to do a mail merge of data to
a pdf image file. The image file does not have any active fields, but
will be just an image file. I would like to overlay names addresses
etc.
We currently do this with a pcl file by just overlaying the data with
pcl print positions. However, in order to get the pcl file from an
original pdf file we have to

more on ailing printer system
I cranked the debug level to 10. Below is a transcript from the client log
file of a client trying to open a Properties dialog for the HP 4500
printer. I am puzzled as to why Samba would be looking for a user with the
name of a printer. Is this normal behavior? Anyway, about a minute after
the last log entry below, the client showed a dialog "Printer properties

Samba PDC and Automatic Printer Install
Hello,
I am trying to install automatic printer driver download and install.
I am running Samba 3, as a PDC, on RedHat 7.3.
It seems everything is setup correctly, although I cannot get the rpcclient
to 'see' my printer.
Please notice these two printers listed below ar the same (lp & HP2300).

using 'apply' to apply princomp to an array of datasets
Hi everyone,
Suppose I have a 3D array of datasets, where say dimension 1 corresponds to
cases, dimension 2 to datasets, and dimension 3 to observations within a
dataset. As an example, suppose I do the following:
> x <- sample(1:20, 48, replace=TRUE)
> datasets <- array(x, dim=c(4,3,2))
Here, for each j=1,2,3, I'd like to think of datasets[,j,] as a single data
matrix with

Printing banners
Hi
I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on a UnixWare 7.1.3 box. I'd set up the Samba
printer shares, and it seemed to be working fine (only live for a couple
of weeks). However, I've just added some heavy users, and the printer
daemon keeps bombing out. I'd configured the printers to use lpr, but
someone suggested I should use lp, so I thought I'd give this a go at
the weekend.

Samba printing and page counting
Hi, I'm running Samba printing services to share a printer on my Linux box with a network of windows machines. Everything works great. The only problem I am having is that I cannot count the number of pages printed by each user.
My printers section looks like this:

guest ok = no
path = /var/spool/samba

Errors printing from Windows to a Samba server
I've noticed several users on various mailing lists that have had trouble
printing from Windows to a Samba server. I've stumbled onto a fix for my
particular situation, and I thought I would post it for the benefit of
others. It turns out to be a CUPS/Windows interaction issue and not a Samba
problem, but the symptoms tend to point to Samba as the culprit. (I've
posted similar
