7.3 and USB headphones
Hi all! I wish to give huge thankyous to KB and all the others who worked to get 7.3 out the door. Many thanks! I have some good things and some bad. A good thing is that unlike previous versions, when I plug in my USB headphones they are automatically recognized and I get sound without having to change anything! (which is a huge win from before when I had to mess with settings, sometimes for a

FLAC: headphones
hi flac list! I'm not sure if this question can be asked here, but here you go (it's a question for audiophiles only): I encode CDDA tracks to FLAC and play them on my Pocket PC (PDA). I'm looking for a high quality headphone to connect to my Pocket PC, but it must be an in-ear one but not like these: http://s7d1.scene7.com/is/image/vanns/770045336?$medium_item$ So no plastic things

Can you recommend some USB headphones
Or phones that work with Centos. I am making headway on my SIP testing, but I need a a couple (or 3) USB headphones or phones. I remember back quite at time ago I had problems with one with volume control (ie none!). So I am looking for a cheap USB headphone or 'real' VoIP phone. I am using SIP Communicator as my client.

recommendable softphones / X-Lite / Zoiper for amd64?
Hi, I am on amd64 Linux and not really too happy with twinkle, linphone and ekiga. Unfortunately, X-Lite and Zoiper, even though they provide Linux versions (w00t!) have only x86 versions for download. Do you guys know of amd64 versions of those, or can you recommend other softphones that will run on amd64, or which come with source code? Thanks, -- martin | http://madduck.net/ |

Softphones for CentOS-6
I am presently configuring a test Asterisk 11 server based on CentOS-6 and I need to employ a softphone for testing. The base repo has ekiga. The EPEL repo has twinkle. I lack the knowledge of whether other packages exist or might be better suited. Which of the two do you recommend? Or, alternatively, what other package might be a better choice? -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE

lossless codecs in wireless headphones.
Hey, just came across this article. http://www.eetimes.com/news/latest/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=ZLCZZJMVGJYNYQSNDLSCKHA?articleID=201202250 . Many of you would be already aware of this. It mentions flac also. i feel it is a good segment(stereo wireless headsets over bluetooth) to push flac given very light decoder and using encoder at low compression(to reduce complexity). Though very less is

Softphones on thin clients...
Does anyone know if you can use softphones on thin clients? I have a new customer that wants to use Eyebeam (about 10 users) on a thin client platform. Each user has a little box on their desk that has a USB port, mic and headphone jacks and monitor. I am worried about conflicts when running 10 softphones on the same server since they will all try to use por 5060. -- Telecomunicaciones

Voice quality of Softphones vs. IP Phones an d Gateways.
In our experience, the total cost of softphones(money, reduced sound quality and lower reliability) in a large call center environment is actually greater over time than the cost of a channelbank and cheap analog headphones. We've tried 2 softphones, 2 kinds of SIP VOIP hardphones, 2 kinds of SIP analog adapters and we've tried channelbanks over the last 3 years. Right now we are half done

Mate and USB headphones
Logitech H540 headphones were working fine. Suddenly stopped. Sound Preferences says they are disabled but gives no hints on how to enable them, or how they became disabled. Tried rebooting, unplugging them, etc. Anyone know what is going on? This motherboard doesn't have onboard sound, this USB is my only option. And GNOME simply isn't usable for me, I used GNOME for years but

Headphone on a Acer Extensa 5220
Hello, is there any chance to get a headphone working under a acer extensa 5220 with CenOS 5.2 (2.6.18-92.1.6.el5) installed? Maybe by centosplus or self compiled alsa sources? # rpm -qa | grep alsa alsa-lib-1.0.14-1.rc4.el5 alsa-utils-1.0.14-3.rc4.el5 The sound works great on this notebook and the hardware is detected as 'Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller

Hello: There is a bug in PulseAudio that does not allow automatic switch between computer speaker, and usb headphones. I would like to add a page to explain how to get around it. I searched online, and almost all of the posts are missing a lot of information. -- Ahmed Hassan <Ahmed at Linuxism.com>

OT: good headphones?
This is off-topic, mostly, but I figure you guys will have some knowledge in this sound-quality-related area. I'm sitting here looking at the most recent "Musician's Friend" at headphones and thinking about getting a pair. They've got products from AKG, Fostex, Audio Technica, Nady, Sennheiser, and Sony, at price points ranging from $16 to $130 (list prices $20 to
