MCMC revisited and BUGS ...
My MCMC message has generated some interesting comments from R people. I will not try and deal with them individually but would comment that, as the most successful implementation of the bazaar (rather than cathedral) model of software development that I know apart from Linux, R would form a natural base for MCMC code development. Would it be possible under the GPL for BUGS (or BUGS-like code)

That would result in a beautiful cathedral of a patch. I know this is how some companies work. We are doing more of a bazaar thing here, though. In a bunch of subsystems it seems that you don't get the necessary

ogg and mp3
For your "non-technical" listeners, both WinAmp 2 and 3 support OGG. And it's free, as I'm sure you know. Challenge them to listen to the difference too. Once they hear how much better OGG sounds at the lower bitrates, I'm sure they won't mind switching over. And you might as well try to force their hands away from Micro$oft's Windows Media Player, if

Help with GPL license of Asterisk
I would appreciate some help with this. I read the GPL license and basically it says you can do whatever you want with the software (sell, modify) as long as you include the source code, the License and make any changes you make available in the same manner to all others. My questions is this: If I develop an external application (say a Call Center application or a GUI management application)

Behold, Adon Irani <adon@YorkU.CA> hath decreed: > > the icecast2 developers be guilt-tripped into repeating icecast's > performance ? > _ is it not enough that OGG can have a streaming server that supports it ? Perhaps, if that is the only requirement to have a fully-functional streamer. Unfortunately, I believe this is not sufficient for the user base. So, if the

Oh I see thank you very much now I understand. So for me as I am considered an intermediate in R and also C++ what kind of programming language I could take up and learn to make a commercial statistical software ? Ogg Frog 1.0 feature set, release date set
I expect to release Ogg Frog 1.0 for public alpha test on Saturday, August 12. The date might slip a little depending on how my current job hunt goes; if I get a job sooner than I expect, I'll have to cut back on my development which has been full-time for a while now. The planned features are detailed at the page where the downloads will eventually be found:

application of R
Because many technical people need to accomplish statistical data analysis with computers that depend on existing algorithms applied in new ways, or with new algorithms that are not implemented by commercial software. Often such people have no desire to provide step-by-step support of their tools for every user of their code indefinitely, so developing commercial software for others is less

SANE 2004 Free Software Bazaar
We (the NLUUG) are organising a conference in Amsterdam this September. During this SANE conference we have reserved an evening for a Free Software Bazaar. We invite many people to participate in this gathering of Free and Open Source software groups. The name "Bazaar" obviously originates from Eric Raymond's article: A place where software developers gather. A unique opportunity
