Asterisk High-Capacity Stability
Thanks Alex, some great ideas. I think, however, I'm leaning towards Asterisk at this point- since I have quite a bit of experience there, and very little with SER. At this point, I'm wondering from a dimensioning standpoint, what kind of capacity my machine will have (Dual Core Xeon 2.4GHz 4GB RAM). As I said, I don't plan to do any transcoding. I read the voip-info page on

session border controller
Hi ? I am playing around the idea of setting up an asterisk box on the public domain. This box will then be connected to various other sip providers for LCR for low cost calls. It was recommened that I use a SBC.? I never used SBC. From what I understand it can help with different aspect when it comes to SIP communication such as security and billing. ? Is SBC really necessary? If so what would

Deploying VoIP on a WAN
Hi, As many of you may know, we are undertaking several tests in order to test the interoperability between several PBX IP from different vendors. Until now, we were trusting that the VoIP IP PBX were good enough to be interconnected directly, however, one of the vendors have presented the "SBC" concept. The "SBC" (Session Border Controller) is not a new concept since we

Need a RTP/SIP Proxy to be used as SBC (Session Border Controller)
Hi all, I have been using asterisk to do such kind of thing, But I must admitt, this is not 100 % conveniant (Mainly because Asterisk isn't a SIP Proxy). I just wanted to know if you knew/used some kind of SBC or packages which would deal both with SIP AND RTP ! SER/OpenSER woulc be a good SIP Proxy ... but then how to deal with RTP ? Any tip, info greatly welcome ! Thanks, JM

Registration problem: UA -> SER -> Asterisk
Hi, we a have a SER (OpenSER) in front of 2 real-time Asterisk. SER simply forward SIP messages to 1 of the Asterisks: UA --> SER --> Asterisk We have a problem with REGISTERs: Asterisk answers with 200 OK, but changes the Contact header, inserting the IP of SER instead of the original IP (the IP of the UA). It seems that performs a sort of NAT-traversal, but all the elements are on

good small registrar?
Greetings, What are some registrars that members of this list have had good experience with? I was stepping through the godaddy checkout process, and being opted-in to a dozen different upsell features just left a bad impression. But I have no clue who else to go with. -Eugene -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

*/SER/FW
Hi, I've just read the postings regarding the interworking between * and SER. As these persons seem quite knowledgeable on this, I would like to have their advise on my planned installation: - I have broadband cable access - I plan to install a SIP-aware router - I plan to install a Linux server with Digium analog IF card(s) for connection to my analog line (incoming and outgoing) - I plan

SER + Asterisk
Hi there, I've seen people using SER with Asterisk. I took a look at SER website, and I didn't see the point in using it, since Asterisk already handles SIP very well (apparently, at least). But, as I'm starting, and some of you (more experienced) use it, I know that there's something there... So I would like to know why to use SER. Is it because of scalability, performance,

Call Transfers in SER + Asterisk architecture
Hi, I'm deploying a SER + Asterisk architecture, where SER is used as SIP registrar, and Asterisk is used for voicemail and PSTN gateway. This system is already able to make Call Transfers (Blind and Attended) internally between phones registered in SER, although, I can't make Call Transfers in some scenarios involving PSTN numbers (which need to pass through Asterisk). The problem

Ser vs. DUNDi
With all of the recent talk on the list about DUNDi, I have a question. From the outset it appears that SER is often used for high availability solutions and as a tool for almost clustering Asterisk boxes behind it. It appears to me that DUNDi is providing a lot of this as well. Now I know DUNDi is not an application by itself to proxy SIP requests but can I hear any information out there that

Verizon SIP "trunking" Field Trial
All, We are in the process of trying to setup our network to use Verizon's SIP "trunking" product. They say that since Asterisk is not on their certified list of approved devices, we need to go through a field trial to get it approved before allowing us to use their service. Where we are at is getting the design approved. We are trying to watch our budget at the same time. We

LCR in Asterisk
Hi all, I am planning to implement LCR routing on my already running asterisk server. Uptill now i have found out that asterisk has no support for lcr, i have to do something about it myself, for example using the AGI. Im looking for ideas here. Whats the best way to start implementing lcr in asterisk. Should i use agi and start implementing my own lcr script or is there any plugin available which
