VoIP bad voice quality
Hi,
We have Asterisk, running on a P4 box running Suse 9.1, making
calls using IAX through SimpleTelecom and Nufone. What we are looking
for is toll quality voice.
The problem is that voice over calls routed through SimpleTelecom
and nNufone occassionally breaks. We also have a digium card and the
calls over the digium card using the Zaptel Interface have a very good
quality.

SIP codec negotiation / manipulation
We're having an odd issue with codec negotiation from one of our SIP providers. Here's the basic situation.
We receive an invite from them advertising support for G711, G729, and G723. In our response, we send back that we support G711 and G729. In about half the cases, this results in no problems, with audio being encoded with G711. The other half of the time, they send us a second

External IAX2 phone defined as internal behaving as from PSTN
Have asterisk@home 1.2.1
The server is on an internal network eg 10.10.10.10
It is NAT'd 1:1 via Checkpoint firewall to external public IP eg
50.50.50.50
The remote IAX2 phone (ATCOM320) is configured to call 50.50.50.50 on
extension 1055.
Outbound calls to 1055 work perfectly.
Inbound calls from 1055 get picked up as if it were an external call
(see below) and goes straight to the ring

super high bandwidth codec
I've just gotten off a skype conference call and it pisses me off that
the quality of skype is higher than my asterisk calls.
Is there such a thing as a super high bandwidth codec?
In a situation that you have the bandwidth to share is there something
that I can use for important calls when the situation warrants it?
TIA,
Dean

what can we do with lost voice packet on a congestioned VPN?
Hi to all
in a scenario where:
- the bandwith is shared with other traffic (HTTP,VPN,ecc)
- the PBX is on a remote VPN peer
- due to many reasons Qos is not usable
There is a IAX trunk between 2 Asterisk 1.4 i've tried different
codecs (ulaw,alaw,gsm) but the main problem still remain the same: too
many voice packet get lost.
The main problem is surely on the network, but the strange thing

speex, ilbc and g729 codecs, GSM with IAX
Dears;
I do not know if any had experience in using speex or
ilbc with IAX and got good results, because I am
facing a problem with GSM.
I am facing a noise problem when I am using GSM with
IAX trunk as following:
IP Phone (G711) ---> Local Asterisk Box ---> IAX Trunk
using GSM codec ---> Remote Asterisk Box ---> Digium
Card (FXO) to terminate the call to the destination

My G729 problem re-visited
Ok, I built a test system to duplicate my problem and provide myself
a platform that I can mess around with to try and break any features.
My problem is G729 pass-through from a gateway to a phone. I think
I even have transcoding working, which makes me more confused on
what's wrong with my pass-through. It must be a configuration issue.
The basics...

transcoder
Dears
Any one knows a standalone voip transcoder software name,not an ip pbx.
What I want is to transcode the incoming sip calls from g711 to g723 or
ilbc or g729 ..... and forward it to a media gateway ..

Clicks in audio with TE100P PRI
Hi, I have a problem I will describe. I have PAP2 connected to the internet
to an asterisk box with 2 TDM cards, one TE100P E1 with PRI and one TDM400P
with 2 FXS an one FXO.
When I call to the TDM400 cards from the PAP2 eveything is OK, sound quality
is perfect.
When I call to terminate the call in PSTN through E100P I hear clicks which
aparently are RTP packet looses. This clicks are only heard

SIP 420
Hi;
I am running asterisk 1.6 from Fonality (Trixbox PRO).
I am trying to initiate a call FROM a softphone client to asterisk (either
an internal 4 digit extension call) or an outside line via a SIP trunk.
In both cases, asterisk rejects the call with a 420.
In this case, it?s a call from x3992 to x4415
Does this require a change on the softphone for x-call-detail?

Asterisk 1.2.4 IAX2 New Jitterbuffer Tuning
I was using G729 with Asterisk 1.07. With the new ability to do packet
loss correction with ILBC, I felt I'd give it a try. The new PLC does
not work with G729. I don't use Speex because my softphone does not
support it.
This is a 1.5mb IP-VPN connection with prioritized QOS for port 4569
(IAX2). I've never really stressed the bandwidth. Typically, only
10-20 concurrent calls.

Skype for Asterisk
Hi Sir,
We have integrated Skype with Asterisk (skype user id:-
rexesbposolutions). Each call which is coming to skype account is
getting transfered to Asterisk Queue. It has following two cases:
case 1: When we call from normal skype account to skype account
(rexesbposolutions), everything is working fine.
case 2: This skype account (rexesbposolutions) has been assigned with a

Is there a way to force a codec on an incoming sip uri call?
Hello,
I'd like to implement some public sip uri's that poeple can call into
and get an echo test. Is there a way to force a codec so that users
can test various codecs?
Something like:
echo-test at example.com (negotiates whatever codec, is there a way to
figure out what codec was negotiated and tell the user)
echo-test-g711 at example.com (forces g711)

codec negotiation
Hi list,
I'm with a little problem on codec negotiation between a cisco827 and
asterisk.
My sip.conf is like that:
[general]
port = 5060
bindaddr = 0.0.0.0
context = default
amaflags = default
allow=g729
allow=gsm
allow=alaw
allow=ulaw
;disallow=all
and cisco like that:
dial-peer voice 6 voip
destination-pattern 0T
session protocol sipv2
session target ipv4:<asterisk-ip>

Skype vs. an Xlite registered to Asterisk
I have a bunch of road warriors who I've set up with Xlite clients.
Unfortunately
the sound quality has been intermittent at best. Sometimes it's great other
times completely unusable. When it's bad one usually hears harsh static
when the other party speaks or their voice gets "clipped" to static if they
speak too loudly.
Many of these users have migrated to Skype ? much

g729 quality at GSM bitrates
Greetings all,
I'm trying to improve the codec selection on a few of the asterisk boxes we
have to keep the g729 licences free for calls from ATAs that don't support
anything apart from g711 and g729. GSM seems to offer noticably inferior
call quality (at least when using a softphone + decent headphones), but it's
about where I want the bitrate to be.
I know there are lots of Speex

No audio after a reinvite changing codec
Hi all,
we have a problem with a reinvite sent by our SIP provider to change audio
codec due to the recognition of a fax tone.
After that the SIP call session has been established (INVITE and 200 OK) we
have the following codec situation:

miserable time with Cisco ATA186
I'm having a horrible experience getting a Cisco ATA-186 to work with *.
I can make calls from the ATA with no problems. However, incoming calls
make the ATA ring once, and then the call is disconnected. I have no
problems with my Sipura 2000 or my Grandstream phones.
I am running 2.16.1 sip code on the ATA 186. Neither * nor the ATA is
behind a NAT. They are both on public IP addresses
