open up firewall ports for Asterisk - safe?
Right now I've been working on setting up an Trixbox server on our internal network. Its behind the firewall, but I'd like to open up the firewall to it because we sometimes have developers working off site and I'd like them to be able to connect. Is this safe to do? I've got the "Allow Anonymous Inbound SIP Calls" box unchecked in freePBX. Is there anything else

setup multiple phones for 1 extension
I'll start by saying I'm a trixbox user, and a new one at that, so hopefully you can respond to me on those terms. I have a user who works from home 1 day a week. On that day I'd like for him to be able to connect with a softphone and be reachable by just dialing his extension as we normally would. I could set him up a new extension, then he could forward his phone there on

identifying what a user pressed to reach my phone
I am a new trixbox user. One of the things I'd like to get working is being able to tell if a user is calling me by directly dialing my extension, or if they pressed 1 for sales. When they press 1, it rings a group of phones, and the call is almost always for someone else. So I'm always looking at my phone when it rings, trying to recognize the incoming number and decide if I

SIP Debugging to separate log file
Hello, I'm working with our SIP provider to nail down some call quality issues we're having, and they've asked me to provide SIP debug log files from our asterisk server. Is there a way to make asterisk 1.4 output only SIP debugging to a specific log file? Or it is best just to use tcpdump? Semi-OT: useful things to do with XML browsers in phones
Greetings list, It seems that more and more phones these days are coming with XML mini-browsers. I'd like to have a go at developing something useful to use on them, but in all honesty, most of our customers use their phones to make and take calls and very little else. So I'm open to suggestions. What useful applications are you developing for these mini-browsers? What sort of things do

Asterisk as SIP <-> PSTN gateway
Hi, I'm new to Asterisk and have a couple of basic questions. We're interested in using * simply as a SIP <-> PSTN gateway using a T400P connected to one or more ISDN PRI lines (instead of using a Cisco box which would cost more and come with no hackable source code :-) First, is Asterisk's SIP stack up to date and fully functional with respect to the SIP protocol? Are there

Asterisk daemon dies about once per day
I have an asterisk system where the asterisk daemon dies typically at least once per day. It is running in the wrapper safe_asterisk, which automatically starts the daemon back up. But we find this unacceptable because when the daemon dies, we usually have active calls drop, and sometimes we have to run asterisk -r -x "module reload" after the daemon starts back up before everything is

Multiple WAN link -- CentOS Suitability
My situation: I have a cable modem (COMCAST 6Mbit d/l) and am about to also have DSL (Verizon 3 Mbit d/l). I was thinking of using CentOS (4.4, 4.5, or 5??) as a router/dhcp server/firewall for my home network consisting of 3 to 6 computers at any given time. I seek the wisdom of the members of this list on the following issues: -- Is CENTOS a good direction to go? I do not mind manually

Call Quality Issues With 2 Trixbox's - Router Issue?
Hello Everyone, We have recently installed a pair of Trixbox servers in for a client of our. They have two locations, with one server each. The servers terminate 3 standard POTS lines into a Sangoma A200D card. The servers are IBM x3250 1RU servers (1GB Ram, Raid 1 160GB HDD, Dual Core Xenon Processors). We are using Trixbox 2.2, and G729 all around. Each site has two (2) 512k/512k ADSL

Kernel building
I have not even decided if I want to undertake a kernel build, but for the sake of discussion, if everything happens to be in the stock kernel, why, other than file bloat, would you want to build a custom kernel? In FreeBSD, you can remove all those devices and drivers that are not needed, and, depending on how much stuff you add or delete, can make a decent size reduction in the kernel

diagonal matrix construction
Hi, I have worked long and hard and looked in the manuals and am having a hard time constructing a diagonal matrix. I can get the diagonals out of a matrix but can't construct the matrix with just the diagonals. I have been on the web site and manuals and I think that it says to use: dsj <- diag (three = 1, nrow, ncol = 7) three is the name of my matrix and

Hardware Requirements for qdisc htb/sfq
I am planning to replace our cisco 7200 core router with Linux. We currently serve around 1500 (3/4 DSL - different router) customers with probably half of them being concurrent at any given time. We have a fiber network and customers currently aren''t managed as far as how much bandwidth they can use at anytime. Therefore I have constructed a working tc qdisc Linux router as a test. It
