interested, we will either do an in-person interview (if you are local
to the Corvallis or Portland area), or an interview over the

A Book for SAS, SPSS and R students
Hi List,
I had the pleasure of taking Dr Bob Muenchen's interview for his upcoming
book R For SAS and SPSS users. He has spent 27 years in this field while I
have spent almost that much on earth.
So this is more like a fan blog interview. I thought it would be of use to
people curious about R, or even SAS , or SPSS if they have not worked on
either of these packages before.

Penalties of using an eval on every request
Hello RoR!
I''m building a rails app for hosting multi-page surveys. I set up
questionnaire, question, and question_component models. Now I''m
initializing them with some data.
survey.rb
q1 = Question.new "q1"
q1.quote "Welcome to a test of the new interviewing system."
q2 = Question.new "q2"

Getting rid of the How_Do_I_Become_a_CentOS_developer page
Hi,
I removed the above page before, but I saw Russ added it again. Let me
explain why I think that page needs to die.
It offers little insight to how one can become a developer. What is a
CentOS developer ? That's the first confusing part. The page answers the
question with a: "show competence and things will happen"
We have a much better Contribute page that highlights ways

Google Developers Interview with me about Samba.
From the "Shameless-self-promotion" department :-).
Here is an interview Cat Allman did with me about
the Samba project :
https://developers.google.com/live/shows/6737128306245632
It's too basic for these lists, but I thought you might
find it interesting (or at least not too spammy :-).
Feel free to forward to anyone who might be interested
in Samba but not currently working

Transform Rails site into DVD
I''m considering implementing a PHP based site that display videos with quite
some database logic to Rails. Now we were considering publishing the site
on DVD too.
Is that possible (e.g. with RubyScript2Exe)? How fast is database
performance going to be? Currently there are movies inside the database but
we can extract them if necessary. The database scheme is quite large and

How to query the package owning the file? (no packahe manger installed)

How do I find out the package owning a particular file, when no package
managers are installed?
I am assuimg SRPMs are used to install the software?
Is this actually possible? Install the Linux OS without a package manager?
I know "rpm -qf filename" gives the package owning the file.
But how to get the package name

Hello,GSoc mentors.
Hello, GSoc mentors.
Last time we discussed the IRC interview. Has the time been determined
yet?
It seems not so many days left before the deadline of submission.
By the way, I'm banned from the IRC because I am a tor user.
But we can't login IRC without using tor because IRC is screened by the
firewall.

missing data and completed missing data
Hi,
This is not exactly an R request, but does anyone know of a good dataset
that contains missing and missing data that have been completed later
(like from persistent in-person interview attempts)? (want it for some
Bayesian regression analysis)
Thanks!!
