* setting echocancelwhenbridged to no / yes
* settting echocancel to 64 / no / yes
* setting echocanceltraining to 800 / no / yes

fxotune Error
I'm trying to learn to use fxotune and am getting the error: Could not
fill input buffer - got -1 bytes, expected 4000 bytes Failure! when I
run it. This is a new install of Asterisk 1.4 and zaptel 1.4. Also I
can't really find an up to date how to on it. Am I supposed to place
fxotune on my startup path and run fxotune -s once it is working
correctly. Any nuggets of info are most

TDM analog cards, volume, echo, fxotune, ztmonitor and HPEC
Hi, everyone:
I am developing a system using Asterisk, TDM-400 analog cards, analog
lines, and Polycom SIP phones for internal extensions.
Initially there was bad echo but after a series of efforts, I've managed
to reduce it to a negligible level (it only happens when both parties
speak simultaneously, and even there, only for a few hundred
milliseconds). From an echo standpoint, things are

Echo...
I've spent all day today trying to fix an echo problem and I've made no
ground whatsoever.
I have Digium TDM400 with 3 FXO & 1 FXS. I've tried this computer at
two completely different sites with different phone providers. I've
tried compiling & installing different versions of Zaptel (currently
running 1.4.0, started at 1.2.9 and worked my way up). I've tried

FW: [Asterisk-Users, Andrew] Will Echo problems EVER be solved, I'm scared
Thank you for the suggestions Andrew. I have not come across some of them
before and will give them a shot. Based on my reading, changing the
motherboard should have minimal impact unless that motherboard and the
TDM400P don't get along (aka. IRQ sharing). I have disabled everything that
is not needed and I do not believe I have any IRQ problems and I am NEVER
wrong ;). Calls are crisp and

Asterisk echo & fxotune
Hey all, guess I didn't include enough info in my last query. I'm having
massive echo problems on our sip<=>fxo connections & have been reading up on
echo cancellation & such. When I try to run fxotune I get the following
error:
Could not fill input buffer
Tuning module 25.Failure!
The system has two of the digium 4port fxo cards & one T1 card (which isn't

adding second TDM400P card causes echo cancellation to fail for all Zap channels
Hi, folks:
Yesterday I added a second TDM400P card to a working, echo-free server
running HPEC.
Today, I'm getting these messages:
> Apr 20 09:12:12 WARNING[5679]: chan_zap.c:1551 zt_enable_ec: Unable to enable echo cancellation on channel 3
along with complaints of severe echo. The channels have all been tuned
using 'fxotune -s' and the echo numbers are all under 2%. I guess

FXOTUNE update
Hey all,
First of all, some background:
Fxotune is a utility that is used to tune the hybrid on FXO modules
For all of you with FXO modules out there, fxotune can help you adjust
the analog and digital hybrid that is on the FXO interface and tune it
so that it maximizes echo return loss. This means that it will reduce
your default echo which is received, and will help any echo cancellers

echo cancellation: the never-ending quest for truth
Asterisk apparently has five echo cancellation algorithms: STEVE, STEVE2,
MARK, MARK2 and MARK3. The current default appears to be MARK2.
My question is, has anyone had any experience with any of the others
(other than MARK2), and is there some conventional wisdom as to when to
use one over another?
TIA

Asterisk not picking up incoming calls from TDM400P
Hi,
I am having some issues with a new server install in Singapore.
Outbound calls work fine.
Inbound calls are not picked up by Asterisk.
Zaptel 1.2.25 and Asterisk 1.2.28 both built from source.

fxotune Problem
Hi,
Well, I have a big problem with Asterisk, my problem is that when I'm in a
conversation, using zap channels, in a moment the line has a interferce
that produce a sound in the conversation, this sound is a electratical
sound I think, I was reading about that and I found that the utility
fxotune can help me to change some settings about the audio and the
supression of interferences. My

Will Echo problems EVER be solved, I'm scared
I came into this with my eyes wide open. I have read ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING
there is to be found on the net about avoiding echo problems BEFORE I even
attempted to create a production system. Since lots of people are
apparently using this in production environments now I just assumed that
echo IS avoidable.
As others have recommended, I created a test system with the proposed

Help with fxotune
What does fxotune need to do its job correctly - complete silence on the
line, or just absence of the dial tone? For how long? I've been trying
to get a silent termination number out of my telco all morning and have
come up empty. When I just dial "1" as some online guides suggest to
break the dial tone, it is silent for a few seconds, then plays a "Your

Odd results from fxotune?
I recently ran fxotune against our incoming PSTN lines to try and help
with some echo problems.
It produced the following fxotune.conf file:
2=8,253,2,244,255,10,244,3,253
3=4,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0
4=4,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0
I'm a bit surprised by all of the '0's for channels 3&4, esp. given that
it's populated values for channel 2.
Is this considered 'normal' behaviour, or
