Any reason to *not* use AEL? (Also, MixMonitor q)
I am building a new Asterisk server here at the office, and I'm
wondering if there are any downsides to creating my dialplan with AEL.
It seems more intuitive (to me), but I'm not sure if there are any
pitfalls I need to be aware of first.
We use this for internal extensions, 8 pots lines, and our answering
service which gets about 500 incoming calls a day down our T1.

Preflight check / lint
Hi,
Am writing scripts to manage configuration management and Asterisk.
I would like to be able to point the asterisk binary at config
directory with an asterisk.conf in it, and for asterisk to run a pre-
flight check. A bit like a pint check in php, 'apachectl configtest'
and lots of other tools.
asterisk will then exit with 0 on a safe config, and 1 on a bad
config. I can

What do you use? .conf or AEL?
Hi all,
I built my first asterisk using the traditional (?) .conf files and
constructs.
I recall reading books at the time about AEL but it seemed "new" and
untested so I left it alone. Now, I'm interested to poll the audience
here to see if I should look into using AEL instead (or in addition to)
for future work.
TIA

AEL2 -- The Future --
Call to Action!
For those who have the courage/ability, go grab an SVN copy of the
asterisk release, the HEAD version,
and my latest patch, from: http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=6021
Right now, the latest version of the patch is 0.10.
apply it to the SVN head version, and do a "make".
Read the Wiki on AEL2: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+AEL2

AEL #include file
Hi,
Does anyone know how to include a file in AEL using the
#include "filename"
syntax in .conf files?

Asterisk not starting up due to database problems
When I try and start asterisk I get the following, however I have commented out the data the connections in res_mysql.conf and res_pgsql.conf. I am not sure therefore why I am getting these errors. Do I have to change something else to turn this off?
Thanks

AEL2 on Asterisk 1.2.4
Hey all,
I am very interested in using AEL2 (don't want to upgrade to 1.4 to get
it though), but am having some problems upgrading/patching my asterisk
system. I am following the instructions on the wiki:
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+AEL2#AEL2AnnouncementsandNews
But get the following error:

--- AEL 2 --- Try it out!
Hello--
I've just written and submitted a new module for asterisk, to the
asterisk bug database.
See http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=6021
There is a file there you can download, AEL2v0.3.patch.bz2
and I created a wiki page: http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+AEL2
Why did I do it? Because I was very impressed with AEL, but the current
AEL compiler isn't real good at

Building an RPM from Asterisk 1.4
Ok, so I'm no rpm expert, but Asterisk 1.4.11 comes with an asterisk.spec
file. Running rpmbuild against it yields errors, the first one being that
the 'Copyright' tag is unknown, and that I need a License tag instead.
Fixed that, and...

Crash when reloading AEL
Hello list,
I have this strange problem whenever I try to make an "ael reload" from the
Asterisk CLI. The command gives the following result and crashes:

Executing last minute cleanups
Asterisk ending (0).

As far as I can see, aelparse can't find any errors in my configuration,

It was not really documented but it seems to be the case.
Can anyone confirm?

Cannot compile 1.4.2 on Slackware 7
Hi All,
I am trying to upgrade an old Asterisk installation to 1.4.2 (it's
currently running CVS-08/02/04-15:15:26) but have hit a couple of
problems.
The first was easily fixed. I got "storage size of sin isn't known"
errors whilst compiling streamplayer.c, but after seeing
http://bugs.digium.com/view.php?id=4908#32012
I manually added "#include <netinet/in.h>"

Is there a default dial plan that is not in extention.conf?
Hi,
I have a trivial peace of dialplan for exten 100. I try to change it to _1XX
and the asterisk act according to a different (Default??) dial plan and not
the one I want? Is that possible? Where is the other dialplan sits? In my
extention.conf I can't see something that look like what asterisk is
dialing.
How can I trace\debug my dialplan?
Thanks,
Eyal

AEL and swap from macros to contexts
Hi, according to discussion on asterisk IRC, where people said, that
macros will be depracated, I tried to migrate from macros to contexts
and Gosub
but if I try to use gosub in extensions.ael, ael compiler complains,
that I shouln't use Gosub app,
but I can't find ael keyword, that will be Gosub equivalent, or can I
ignore this ael warnings? thanks

Newbie AEL2: Syntax for Hint
I am struggling to find out how to code hint in AEL2.
I did hint(Custom:light1) and it keeps complaining about the : (colon).
It works fine for SIP device like hint(SIP/439).
Anyone who has tried it before?
