Any chess players here?
The Internet Chess Club, launched a new chess interface in August. Besides being a terrific client for connecting and playing chess on ICC, it has a built-in chess engine with 14 personalities from beginner to GM's that you can play off-line. You can also add-in other chess engines. If you try it, I'm sure you'll agree it is one of the best chess clients available. It is now at

Upgrading software under Wine
I run several program under Wine. Two I'm especially reliant on are Password Safe, an open source password manager, and Dasher, a new interface for playing on the Internet Chess Club. Both these programs are being actively developed and are frequently upgraded. I always backup the previous version, then install the upgrade by running the installer, such as "wine

Font confusion
In my attempts to get Fractal Mapper (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=3117) to work I am a bit confused about the behaviour of text and fonts. The application's documentation says you should be able to use any TrueType fonts. I see a menu with the fonts I have on the system. If I select one of them and enter some text I see the text as I enter it, but when I finish it disappears.

USB support in wine for TDK CD/DVD Print Labeller
Hi Does anybody know whether wine works with USB ports or not ? The reason I ask is that I'm trying to get the application TDK CD/DVD Printer Labeller Software running, the software appears to work except for the fact it complains that "The printer is turned off or not connected to the computer". http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=3751 Is there some other layer of

fixme: How?
I first tried Wine a few months ago to see if Password Safe would run in Linux. Being very impressed that it ran nearly flawlessly, I've became it's maintainer in the AppDB. Everything works except the following two functions: the "Get Help" menu item and the "Perform Autotype" feature. The only effect of clicking on either of these is the error messages Wine

App db entry
This Application is mis-spelled in the AppDB. http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=217 It should be named "Convert" It works well except that it's default is to stack tabs and this needs to be turned off in the options. I can email a screenshot to anybody interested. It works in Crossover 6.0.1 but has the same cosmedic problem. Ubuntu 7.10 i386 -Joe Baker

Failure with Top50 Geogrid Viewer
Hi, I've been successfully using Geogrid viewer version 3.2 with wine 0.9.9 and a hack to let the CoRegisterPSClsid() stub return S_OK on Suse 9.3. However, after an upgrade to Suse 10.1 the application failed to open the main window. 0.9.10 showed the same behaviour. Later versions of wine (I tried 0.9.11 onwards to current cvs) open the main window again, however when I try to scroll

Warhammer 40k
According to the appdb (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=1918), Warhammer 40k should work almost flawlessy, however I am unable to even get the game to run. I'n installed the game on a Windows laptop (that's not up to running the game) and copied that across. When I try and run it, the game either complains that there is no cd in the drive, or that I must insert the origional

Debugging a new app ?
Hello I'm new to wine-users. I'had often used wine with known-working apps, but now I try to launch Future Pinball (a pinball simulation), see http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=4596. As it's not work, I search docs on how to debug an app. My first try is to check that all dll requierd is present in wine (or I'll try to add them): I've profiling it on windows xp with

Serial port problem - again
Hello. I'm new to this list. After days of reading docs and googling I can say that a lot of people is trying to use wine with serial ports, but no success story found? My problem is just like in bug1244 <http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1244> which is almost 4 years old. If I run this app <http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=4165> with WINEDEBUG=+relay , I

Possibly unusual question involving windows version of wine.
Hey, I've heard that in a few fringe cases, WINE actually improves performance in a game. I believe I may be in one of these few fringe cases. Anyway, is there anyway to run a program in wine, while on windows? I've downloaded the windows binary .zips and I have no idea what to do with them. I've tried running the game through the wcmd.exe, but that does not seem to change

an application fails to work with wine 0.9.30
Hello, I'm using fink unstable (from CVS) on an Intel Mac. An application (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=3042) which worked OK on linux (when I still had it) and which worked OK until I updated the wine with fink, fails to work now, but is pretty important for me. This shows me:

Hello! I'm not sure if I should have posted this to wine-devel or add bug in Bugzilla, so I'm posting this here. I've got following problem: I've upgraded Wine to 0.9.38, and Kiyosaki's Cashflow 101(http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iAppId=2216) stopped working. fixme:win:SwitchDesktop
I just installed Wine last night. First let me say: it's awesome! Much better than I supposed. I decided to try Wine because I've been trying to get file compat- ability between Linux and PasswordSafe, a great Windows password manager. I copied all the PasswordSafe files to their own directory in my $HOME so that PasswordSafe could write it's database. I cd to that directory;

Can't get Local DNS to Run [Was[ remove wins entries - samba 3]]
Further on this. I just ran an ethereal trace on an attempt to ping lserver1 from lserver1, and it appears that my DNS isn't staying local at all, but I have no idea what's gone wrong (other than my /etc/resolv.conf file). The trace (I'd include the relevant parts, but I can't get it to save anything in textual form) had lserver1.test.biz going out through the

Using OLE DB Connections from Wine
Hi, I'm trying to use Enterprise Architect under wine. According to their documentation it runs on "Codeweavers Crossover" so I believe it should also run under wine (it's listed as basically working in the application DB http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6018 ( http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=6018 ) ). [Fwd: Samba-3 By Ex Chapt 3]
One more thing I forgot to mention. The chapter calls for editing /etc/resolv.conf, but in my case it won't stay edited--it keeps getting set back to an original form (for searching my ISP) on every reboot. Thanks again.
