vampire: account mapping strangeness
I am testing samba 3.0's net rpc vampire tool and am getting strange
results... after I import the account info, the samba usernames seem to
be mapping to hardcoded unix uid #'s instead of account names. For
example:
# pdbedit -u jah000
idmap uid range missing or invalid
idmap will be unable to map foreign SIDs
idmap gid range missing or invalid

Big practical systems
I don't want to start the "How many calls can Asterisk handle?" discussion
or "How many angels can stand on the point of a pin?" discussion either.
But can anyone contribute some practical knowledge of systems that take in
channel bank T1s or DS3s from "far away", and process the calls?
I am looking for real world, been there, done that, or "check the

Rsync sharing connections
Hi !
I am running rsync between two server machines where files are being
created and removed from both machines simultaneously and I am facing
the following problem :
When a new file is created on machine 1 it is transferred to machine 2
without any problem, the same happens if a file is deleted from machine
1. But if a new file is created on machine 2, it is deleted from that
machine before

RE: LOA for CFA . . work up "pencil copy"
David,
I guess I'm a little confused here. Are you asking me to provide a "pencil
copy" of an LOA for your review? I don't understand why you need an LOA
from us. We need an LOA from you to order circuits that will be billed to
us that will be attached to your CFA. It was also my understanding that you
had an LOA ready to be given to us, which had already been reviewed by

T1 "access layer" used Cisco or new Digium
I'm looking to build a robust inbound DID access layer for an application I
am working on. This might start off simply as 8 DID T1/ISDN lines and
eventually grow to a few dozen T1 lines worth of access or higher.
(In a prior life, I had 14 DS3s of inbound toll free terminating on Dialogic
card based IVR platforms ... then one day the Asterisk/VoIP bug bit me but
that's another story)

Problem with multiple N/W cards
Hi,
I am trying to set up a linux box with 5 N/W cards of which one is
10/100/1000T and the others are 10/100T. I connected all the cards and
turned on the machine. I wanted to force eth0 to be the 1000T cards but
the cards get allotted eth0 to eth4 randomly. Is there some way wherein I
can force my 1000T card to be eth0.
Also I want to turn off auto negotation & flow control on the 1000T

[LLVMdev] Compiling LLVM-Clang with MinGW on Windows
I'm a Windows user, and wish to run LLVM-Clang on Windows.
In Visual Studio 2010, buidling was fairly straightforward via the solution
file from CMake. However, there is no good document (thought I searched for
an hour) how to compile LLVM with MinGW on Windows.
I generated MinGW Makefile and build directories from CMake. I installed
entire MinGW+MSys packages. I tried to run "make -f

How do I provide redundancy and reliability w/ Asterisk?
I'm trying to set up an Asterisk system for a small office, and one thing
I haven't figured out yet is how to best provide reliability. One way
to go seems to be a T1 for all my incoming phone lines. What if that T1
goes down? Can I use mutiple POTS lines in conjuction with a T1, all
connecting to my Asterisk server?
What if my Asterisk server fails? Should I use two Asterisk servers,

PRI - DS3 Calls Dropped
I have a customer installation with an Adtran DS3 mux. The DS1's go into my Asterisk servers that run IVR/Call recorders. The DS3 provider is Qwest, and they tell me that they routinely drop the DS3 service to redundant back-up's and that this is a common practice that happens thousands of times to DS3 lines daily across the US without any service interruptions. They say that the

Caller ID Info from Cisco router to Asterisk
Dear Asterisk Gurus:
Our county is finally ready to begin implementing IP telephony. We intend
to use a Cisco router as our PSTN gateway and Asterisk as our soft switch.
The plan is to use SIP between the Cisco router and Asterisk. We will have
a single PRI T1 connected to the Cisco router for PSTN access. My question
is this:
Are Cisco routers able to pass caller ID information (from PRI

My methodology at this stage is to get it working on the floating point
DSP first and to gain recent experience in both Speex and the TI DSP
range while I do so. Then I'll enter into serious discussions about

dual boot windows
Hi guys,
I''m new to Xen - in fact I haven''t installed it yet - wanted to find out a
bit more before I test the waters.
Here''s what I want to do:
1. I''m getting a new Intel Core duo laptop within a couple of days. I
believe the core duo chips have Vanderpool technology so it shouldn''t be a
problem getting Xen to run windows unmodified - is this

OT: DS3 -> VoIP Hardware Recommendations
Hello all,
We are looking for some hardware requirements/recommendations to be
able to handle a full DS3's worth of TDM -> VoIP traffic. The DS3 would
bring 24 calls per T1 x 28 T1s = 672 simultaneous calls. We would then
need to convert those calls into G729 SIP VoIP calls to send to our
asterisk box over ethernet. Since everything is going in/out of asterisk
is 729, and no features

iax or sip
i am looking at iax to see if it is applicable to my needs. i
would appreciate any corrections of what i think i have understood
but probably have not.
iax uses udp and traverses nats. neither of these seems useful to
me. i loathe nats, and udp is not well-behaved in the sense of
congestion avoidance.

Zlib maildir reindex bug?
Hi
Running dovecot 2.1.7 (from debian repo).
We have some old compressed maildir messages with the wrong S= size in the filename (our fault).
If I delete index files, log in to the mailbox and try to FETCH the bad message, dovecot complains about the incorrect message size, attempts to fix the filename and disconnects the client. However, it changes the filesize to the size of the message on

What are the various models of DID providers
Hi,
Inspired by a recent rant about one particular provider, I am getting
very curious about something I've never mastered. I'd like someone to
explain this here or at least post a link or two that can educate me
and probably countless others who have no knowledge in this area. I'm
sure there are several of you reading this that know all about the
subject.
What are the various
