First game ever to use Theora!
Hi all,
I would like to bring your attention to our game "Scratches" that we're
developing which is using the Theora codec. We found the video quality
to be great with very small files. You can see the results for yourself
in this short demo (45MB) we released a few months ago:

segfault 'memory not mapped', dual core problem?
I encountered a segfault running glm() and wonder if it could have
something to do with the way memory is handled in a dual core system
(which I just set up). I'm running R-base-2.4.0-1, installed from the
SuSE 10.1 x86_64 rpm (obtained from CRAN). (My processor is an AMD
Athlon 64 x2 4800+).
The error and traceback are

intel dual core processors and new kernel packages
I've just got bunch of RHEL4 erratas (looks like U2 is out). Looking at the
kernel errata (kernel-2.6.9-22.EL), one of the things in list of new features
is "Intel dual core support".
What does this exactly means? Does it mean if I have dual core pentium
processor and use older kernel that it will use only one core, and I need newer
kernel to use both cores? Or is it only

Warhammer Dawn Of War: Dual core system: only one of the core working?
Hello.
I'd like to know if, under Windows, on a dual-core system, both cores are
used by this game. For me, under wine, though both cores are detected
correctly, only one of them is used (one is 100%, the other 0%).
Can anybody tell me if the game behaves the same under Windows? Thanks.

Samba and Dual Core Utilization
In the past week, working with Samba 3.0.23d and the Linux 2.6.20
kernel, I have observed something interesting about Samba and the
utilization of multiple CPU cores.
On a single Dual Core 3 Ghz Xeon machine, when I am hammering the Samba
server with requests from many client machines, a variety of CPU
utilization tools like Gkrellm and Qps show that CPU utilization is
around 30+ percent on

R utilizing 25% of CPU for Dual core i3 370M processor
Hello Everyone
I have a dual-core Intel i3-370M processor and Windows 64 operating system.
I have a 3GB RAM and my processor can support a maximum of 8GB RAM.
I have virtual memory enabled on my computer.
I am running a program in the 64 bit R which implements a MCMC on a large
dataset and involves around 80000 iterations.
The processor estimates that it will take around 1000 minutes to

RE: [on-asterisk] Brainstorming dual-core and Asterisk
I believe you can assign processors in vmware, and xen as well.
So you could probably do something funky like that to try to reduce
load.
The only thing that probably becomes difficult is trying to manage
physical hardware between virtual machines.

R on dual-core machines
Dear expeRts!
I'm thinking of buying a new computer and am considering dual-core
processors, such as AMD Athlon64 X2. Since I'm not a computer expert, pleas
forgive me if some of my questions are silly.
First, am I correct that using a dual-core processor is (for R point of
view) the same as using a computer with two processors?
If that is true, the posts I found on the list imply that

Dual Core vs Quad Core
Dear R-users,
I use R to run spatial stuff and it takes up a lot of ram. Runs can take hours or days. I am thinking of getting a new desktop. Can R take advantage of the dual-core system?
I have a dual-core computer at work. But it seems that right now R is using only one processor.
The new computers feature quad core with 3GB of RAM. Can R take advantage of the 4 chips? Or am I better off

Dual core problems
Hi all
Having problems with dual core in wine. It seems that every application I use through wine only uses 1 core. Any thorghts on how I can implement the wine apps to use both cores??
Native Linix apps use both cores generally. The DXDiag in wine also shows the 2 cores

No performance increase from dual-core processors?
Hey all,
I was planning on getting a new computer for the new year to help with
my dissertation research, and recently had an opportunity to compare the
performance of my 1.6 GHz Pentium M laptop, and a 2.8 GHz dual-core
Pentium processor (both running WinXP professional 32-bit). I run a lot
of long simulations, so I was hoping to get something that would speed
them up. I ran a few quick

Wine and Dual core CPU
I have searched the forums and cant seem to find an answer. I have noticed that when i run games and programs under wine its only useing 1 core. While when i run native Linux apps they use both cores. Also the games and programs that i am running under wine use both cores when run under windows. Is this a bug, or maybe just something i dont have setup correcly on my computer.

P4 dual core vs AMD64 dual core with HTB
Hi All,
Please for some advice.
I have Linux router that do traffic control with HTB , routing and traffic
counting.
currently machine is with P4 2.2GHZ 1GB RAM. I plan to migrate to dual core
CPU. I know well
P4 dual core but is it anybody has experience with AMD64 dual core / or
single core / for traffic control . I use Deban Linux for my router. Can I
expect problems with HTB and iproute 2

bad identification of the CPU pentium dual core ( penryn instead of core2 )
lvm 3.7.0 treats pentium dual core ( cpu family 6 model 23 ) as "penryn"
cpu, which triggers a serious bug :
- crashs in openGL programs when llvm is used by mesa package, llvm will
produces binary code with SSE4 instructions, which is not compatible
with pentium dual core, because this CPU doesn't support SSE4
instructions ( bad cpu opcodes ),
with llvm 3.6.2 this bug doesn't

Problem with R on dual core under Linux - can not execute mpi.spawn.Rslaves()
Hi
I am trying to utilize my dual core processor (and later a
High-performance clusters (HPC) ) by using the Rmpi, snow, snowfall,
... packages, but I am struggling at the beginning, i.e. to initialise
the "cluster" on my dual core computer. Whenever I try to initialize
it (via sfInit(parallel=TRUE, cpus=2) or mpi.spawn.Rslaves(nslaves=2)
), I get an error message:

Xen +suse 10.1 +ASUS A6iTc w/AMD Turion Dual Core processor
Hi
I have a new ASUS A6Tc laptop with 1.6 GHz AMD Turion dual core
processor. I get a strange error:

<4>0000:00:0b.1 EHCI: BIOS handoff failed (BIOS bug ?) 01010001
This only occurs when booting into the xen kernel, not without xen.
Can someone tell me why and how it can be fixed?

Installing oVirt on 32bit dual core server with Fedora Core 12
Hi,
My setup is 1 management server and 1 server for virtual guests. The management server is an old dual core 32bit machine, the virtual guests server will be a dual quad core Dell server (until someone needs it back for production stuff :) )
This install is for the 32bit management server.
First did a basic install of F12 without any X stuff in it
Made sure /etc/selinux/config is in

Whine in dual core Windows PC if R uses full CPU capacity
Dear R-developers,
the following may seem a weird question for R-devel – I try anyway, because it
does seem to be related to usage of R and R's way of interacting with the
hardware.
When running R (2.4.0) on my new dual core Windows XP system (Intel Core 2 Duo
E6600, Mainboard ASUS P5B, BeQuiet Power Unit), I observe various types of
sounds (not related to fans) when running at full
