Howto start Linux programs from wine ?
I am using Lotus Notes 5.04a under Wine/Linux, and I can say the wine
developers did a great job.
I would like to start a Linux program from wine, e. g. start the Acroread
viewer when clicking on an attached PDF document.
Does someone know how to do that ?

windows program compiled using wineg++ looks for wine binary
Hi !
I have compiled a sample Windows VC++ win 32 based HelloWorld application using the winelib. I used wineg++ to compile the application in Linux. When I try to execute the application it looks for wine. When I set the path to the wine /bin directory the application works properly.
Is it possible that after compiling using wineg++ the program will run in any platform even if wine is not

I would like it to keep a connection open and read from it when my linux program sends new input, and return the result, and wait for more.
I have the idea of the Windows program opening a 'file' to read from, perhaps a accumulating a character at a

If a program won't run under Wine
I have started this discussion on the Ubuntu forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1534491), but I was advised to come here.

I did it. I finally got somebody else onto Ubuntu. OK, it is my mother but so far so good. I had to install MS Office and then some dictionaries - all under Wine.
Now I have got stuck, there are some legal dictionaries written for Windows, released in

Noob: Program ran on wine in Ultimate Ubuntu, and not Mint?
Hi everybody!
I've finally found a distro that suits my needs from the starts... well except for one small thing.
In "Ultimate Edition" (formerly Ultimate Ubuntu) I had no problems installing and running the Foundry's Nuke compositing software. (not in the AppDB)
In Linux Mint however- the program disappears after the splash screen. No errors, nothing- just disappears. How

Limiting the execution of Wine to allowed programs
My uncle has these kids who messed up their Windows computer on a monthly basis by going to unsafe websites. So I had to fix it for them, multiple times. There was a time when I went on strike, but because of the family I was "forced" into fixing it. Lots and lots of hours wasted on fixing their computer problems and still they don't learn their lesson.
So, the past few months I

How to: Run a DOS program using Wine
I have a new EeePC from ASUS with Xandros version of linux installed. I have installed wine, and believe that the installation works for at least some windows programs. Looking in the windows\system32 directory I see notepad and progman, both of which run and look reasonable.
What I really want to do is to run a command window, i.e. cmd.exe. Even though it is there, when I attempt to execute

wine can not handle running a simple SDL program that calls
I have a simple SDL program, which I've used mingw to compile. It attempts to call cout more than once. It crashes when calling it the second time. Windows handles this program just fine. However, running this program using wine gives the following error:

Linux apps from inside Wine (was:Re: Problems with Lotus Notes R5.0.12 under Wine 20050524)
Hi Andreas,
I saw someone (Mike or Joachim, I think) at the list saying you
have to shutdown the wineserver. It will overwrite the system.reg as soon
it goes down. So before you make the changes be sure there is none wine*
process running.
Hope this helps. If not, write us again and we'll help you

Hi,
I'm running wine-1.0.1, OpenBUGS 3.0.3, R 2.9.0, and R2WinBUGS on a Redhat

Following various peoples' suggestions...
This works perfectly (yay!): wine Z:/opt/OpenBUGS/winbugs.exe
Within R, however, I get this:
