HD Voice
Video on HD Voice. Worth a watch but nothing you wouldn't already know
about.

My question however is this - when are ITSP's going to start offering
digital voice services with HD codecs?
It's crazy that calls to my clients via skype are better quality than
the calls via my itsp's that I pay money to are.

Smb signing - how can I check?
Howdy,
Does anyone know how to check the samba setting of "smb signing"? There is
a data write error that can happen with the signing, and I'd like to check
my samba servers.
See

Did Microsoft release any useful information . . . ?
Hello,
I just read on an austrian news site ( http://futurezone.orf.at/hardcore/stories/289596/
) that Microsoft released documentation of some of their protocols.
On the site there are 4 links to Microsoft:

As you know, Microsoft is going to release Windows 8 and MS Office for ARM sometime in 2012. (via microsoft.com (http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/Features/2011/jan11/01-05SinofskySOC.mspx))

merging multiple data frames with different numbers of rows
merge can only merge two objects at a time- I would like to merge more than
two objects at a time.
s.d <- structure(list(RiverMile = c(202L, 198L, 190L, 185L, 179L, 148L,
119L, 61L)), .Names = "RiverMile", row.names = c(NA, -8L), class =
"data.frame")
#s.d is all of the river miles that can occur in all of the data frames that
I want to put together

ZDNet reviews Samba 2.2
eWeek reviewed Samba 2.2 at :
http://www.zdnet.com/eweek/stories/general/0,11011,2712294,00.html
- they seem to like it !
It's certainly encouraging to get trade coverage like
this, I'm hoping the more people who report Samba use
in their organisation to press outlets will encourage
them to cover more Open Source/Free Software products !
Cheers,
Jeremy Allison,

Luke,
You should be able to tell from my signature that I am a UNIX sys admin
and an Oracle DBA.
I hate MS as much as you do, but I have realized that they control everything,
and we are going to have to live with it. I don't think anyone or thing can
ever fight them. Hell, Bill snubbs his nose at the US DOJ. You are preaching
to the choir. I work in an environment where interns think

New Cisco "Color" Phone
I thought you guys would be interested to know:
eWeek has a short article about Cisco bringing out
a new IP phone: 7970G. It has a high resolution
color touch-screen display with support for XML and
can act as a mini-browser to allow the development
of vertical applications.
But get this: the price will be $995. I don't think
I'll be getting one any time soon.

OT: Please comment on Dvorak's troll
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1812887,00.asp
Specifically, his assertion that ISP's would sniff traffic and block, say,
the SIP port. You could play wack-a-mole with port numbers, no?
Also a community based, Freenet style of encryption implementation for
"free" VoIP traffic would address this issue.
I raise this to the list because I'm sure there's a grain of
