Easiest (best?) linux distribution for dedicatedAsterisk box?
I'll second that. I use Ubuntu, actually installed asterisk through
apt-get. Too easy.

X100P fails to initialize
So I took a chance with an X100P knock-off on eBay. I'm running Asterisk +
FreePBX on a PowerMac G3 (beige desktop) using Slackintosh 10.2 and kernel
2.6.16.16. Everything has been fine up until now.
I compile the 1.2.5 Zaptel drivers without a problem, get the udev
configuration in, modprobe zaptel, and finally modprobe wcfxo. At this
point, I get the message:

[Off Topic, kind of] eMachine model T5254
Hi list,
Best Buy currently has an eMachine on sale for less than $300.00
without monitor. I didn't see any recent complaints on
www.consumeraffairs.com. I didn't take the time to do a thourgh search
so may have missed some. Red Hat hardware list does not have one
eMachine listed. I went to eMachine's home page and found the following:
AMD Athlon? BE-2350 dual-core processor

Time is Fleeting: CentOS 4 question
I have recently built a new server using CentOS4. I've found one major
oddity: time resolution is completely whacked.
I'm not using an external time source nor am I relying on NTP for time
resolution. For some reason, time on this server moves forward at a far
more rapid rate.
Right now, all my other systems show Sunday May 8, 3:19 pm. The CentOS
server thinks its Monday May 9, 3:54

Testers needed for VoIP router solution
Hi all,
We have put together a firmware for a range of inexpensive routers.
It has been configured to provide optimum VoIP performance.
We have internally tested it for number of months and it looks very good.
You should be able to run it easily with 20+ phones on local network ( we
still did not hit the upper limit ) assuming that you have bandwidth.
Your VoIP will get prioritized over other

Speex and low bandwidth communication
Hi,
I'm fairly new on codecs, I'm trying to implement a communication
between two PCs.
The data rate should be of approx. 6Kbits/s, this 6Kbits/s can just be
the useful data. Any encapsulation (for example UDP , RTP, etc ...) can
be present even if that means to rise the overall bit rate.
Also if this rate can be achieved on Asterisk. For exemple I've tried to
change de rate on

How can I use my regular phones with Asterisk running on my Linksys WRT54G router?
Ok, I've done some more research and I don't think I want an FXO box...
What I'd like to do is use BroadVoice (with their BYOD plan) and then
run Asterisk on my WRT54G router. I'd also like to use my regular home
phones without having to use a special "SIP" phone... (eg. I like my
Vtech normal cordless phones)
What do I need to buy to get this working? It sounds like I

Help! - Double NAT issue
Hi folks.
Please don't flame me but I've been googling around for days, read a
tremendous amount, tried everything, and still no go.
This is most definitely a typical newbie question. - I sure hope there's
somebody(s) out there who'll humble themselves to help me out.
I've set up an 'out of the box' basic Asterisk server running on Slackware
Linux. - It basically

7960 Dynamic DNS?
Hello everyone....
Searching the archives and google always comes up with entries regarding
the "dyn" dns option in the 7960, but I can't find answers to my
specific question....
My 7960 is connected via cable modem and is NAT'ed (everything is
working fine). On the 7960 under SIP configuration\NAT Address I have
the public IP of my cable connection. Comcast gives me a

Slashdot on WRT54G
Did anyone see the article?
It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers
are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a
replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the
multipurpose firewall desktop machine.
Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how
advanced you can get with tc rules? For

Cable Modem and Bridging
I''m not subscribed to the users list but I''ve been reading the archives. The
OP should NOT try using bridging with either FC 3 or FC 4 at this time
because the combination of Netfilter and bridging is currently broken in the
kernel''s included with those distros (as reported in another thread on the
list).

Incoming Call Problem
Hello All,
I would be grateful for some help with this issue. I have gotten Asterisk
to work with Broadvoice on outgoing calls only. When I try to call my
Broadvoice number from another location I get a caller is busy message. My
Asterisk box is behind a Linksys WRT54G. Could this be the problem? On the
Linksys, I have port 5060 forwarded to the asterisk box 192.168.1.2. I have

Unable to connect to Asterisk? (simple[?] question)
I'm trying to setup Asterisk on my Linksys WRT54G router and it
appears to startup successfully (no errors) and it says it is
listening on 0.0.0.0 port 5060, but I am unable to connect to it.
I've tried "telnet localhost 5060" but it just says connection
refused. I've also tried connecting from another machine on my
network (eg. telnet 192.168.0.1 5060) but it also says
