Wine + winebottler + azloader.exe + rs232 to usb, adapter
Ubuntu creates /dev/ttyUSB0 for me when
I plug in the usb-to-serial-adapter. I have a
symbolic-link to /dev/ttyUSB0 from 'dosdevices/com1'.
What is new in 10.04 Ubuntu is that I have to sudo chmod o+r
and sudo chmod o+w on /dev/ttyUSB0 every time before I
start the app which uses that serial line. ttyUSB0 goes away when
I unplug the serial adapter from the USB port or
shut down the

It looks like the simplest way to handle this on Debian is to add the system 'nut' user to the 'dialout' group:
$ sudo adduser nut dialout

USB Serial Port receives no data
Hello,
I have an application that sends data out to a serial port, then should
receive the reply.
After some hassles I got the application to enumerate the serials (in a
dialog box where you select the port), and after creating the link in
dosdevices (in lower case I should note, wine will not recognize COM1)
it actually starts sending out data (verified using a terminal on the
other end).
But

Help with USB-to-serial cable
I am trying to use software to program a scanner radio (BCD396t and UASD software). The software installs and seems to run properly, reading and writing database files. But I cannot connect to the scanner, through a USB-to-serial cable.
OS: ubuntu-8.10, kubuntu-8.10, debian/lenny (tried them all)
lsusb identifies the cable as follows:

Custom udev rules to override defaults?
I'm trying to work out how to set up a custom udev rule to override
permissions on serial ports (/dev/ttyS* and /dev/ttyUSB*) on CentOS 5.3
The default rule, in /etc/udev/rules.d/50-udev.rules has the line:
KERNEL=="tty[A-Z]*", NAME="%k", GROUP="uucp", MODE="0660"
and I would like the mode to be 0666
Various docs on web say that you

Printing in Corel Draw through CUPS
10/10/2007
After consulting with some local Linux consultants, we have concluded
that Corel Draw does not print under WINE because it detects the printer
as Postscript, converts the file to Postscript, and sends the file to
CUPS, which then converts the file to Postscript, again, and sends it to
the printer which prints garbage.
The consultant found a way to make a couple changes to WINE

New User Questions - With Belkin USB
Hello all and thanks. I read here
<https://mn3m.info/posts/configure-ups-monitor-using-nut-on-debian/>
while searching around for my issue's resolution. In this I see that
this nut driver is creating and using an entry in /dev (in this case
ttyS0). So I "ll tty*" and see nothing with nut. Since this is a USB
UPS, I suppose I should be looking for something in /dev/ttyUSB*.

Mappery : uncertain Thinkpads (Repost?)
Followups set, hesitantly, to gmane.linux.redhat.fedora.general
I thought I had posted this to both these groups, but my
newsreader doesn't show it in either.
I have three Garmin GPSs (an Etrex Vista and two Rino 120s),
which I want to use under Fedora 11 Linux with four PCs, and two IBM-
reconditioned Thinkpads, T30 & T42.

NUT v2.7.1 - Not working on UPS SOLA BASIC SR MICRONET XRN-21-481
Hi Charles!
Thanks a lot for your response.
Now I figure why the isbmex driver was not working. On the other hand I've
tried to run the command suggested. But no success.
I got this information when running the dmesg command after running the
modprobe

Can't connect USB Serial (COM3)
Wine does great job for GUI on screen (PC Oscilloscope) But, can't USB connect to external hardware device that has FTDI 245AM chip in it. See device in /dev/ttyUSB0. See device in lsusb, also in lsmod. Did normal linking, ln -s /dev/ttyUSB0 /.wine/dosdevices/com3. No luck. See the link with: ls -al of dosdevices. Using COM3 because in Windows registry in Wine, it says COMPORT=3
Any help?

Problems with USB-serial converters -- please advise on code fix
Hello!
I've ran into this annoying issue when setting up a new server. I have an APC
SmartUPS hooked up on a USB-serial converter on /dev/ttyUSB0.
This works nicely, until:
hub 3-0:1.0: port 1 disabled by hub (EMI?), re-enabling...
pl2303 ttyUSB0: pl2303 converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
usb 3-1: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB1
apcsmart gets into an infinite loop of this:

Serial Port Access Under Wine
I have asked this before, but has anyone successfully used serial
port /dev/ttyS0 under wine? I am trying to run a windows program for
controlling an amateur radio - a 'tentec pegasus'.
My linux is a debian derivative ... sidux ... and I have installed wine from
the sid repositories. The program runs ... and displays a radio dial which
looks correct. However, because I cannot

Usb, udev and nut
Hi All
I am connecting a ups via a usb to serial converter. Works fine,
however when the converter is unplugged and plugged back in, udev
creates another device e.g instead of ttyUSB0 it creates ttyUSB1. Here
is the udev rule that I added to the top of the 025_nut-usbups.rules
file in order to create a static symlink should udev decide to create
the device as either ttyUSB0 or ttyUSB1.

USB and serial
Hello, everyone -
I have an old Windows app - a ship navigation program - that needs to
see GPS input on a serial port (it was written in the pre-USB days.) My
laptop, however, has no serial ports - but this same program, when run
on a friend's Windows box, can read the GPS info from the USB-connected
GPS via the "USB-Serial Driver". This is one of the frustrating bits of
this
