Opteron vs Xeon?
Hi I'm setting up a SIP gateway, serving quite a few potential users, and I wonder if I should purchase a Opteron or Xeon based system. Xeon has it's HT, but is it worth it? Has anyone tested Opteron on asterisk? Does it work well? There'll be no transcoding in this system - G.711A all way through roy

Benchmarking Xen - Xeon vs Opteron. Will memory latency make a difference?
Has anyone done any performance profiling for Xen on different platforms? I''m wondering if the big (50%+) memory latency advantage the Opteron''s have over the Xeon''s makes a big difference in the context of a Xen host with multiple active guest domains. Particularly at the moment I''m considering the 2-way situation with the SunFire v20z vs the Intel SR1400JR2.

Dual Opteron or Dual Xeon?
I am about to lease another server to be a backup web/mail server with a replicated mysql database. The current live server is a dual Xeon 2.8Ghz. Would I do better to get another Xeon server or an Opteron based server? My concerns are compatibility of the database and the SSL certificate currently running on the Xeon machine. Are these concerns unfounded? TIA Mike

two densities with same stepsize
Hi there, I have two series of data. plotting the density function of both gives me an idea about the difference of the data. But I would like to quantify the difference I see. a <- rnorm(100) b <- rnorm(100) da <- density(a) db <- density(b) The problem is that da$x and db$x are different and so I have difficulties to compare them... Is there any way to force the density

Dell SC1430 + Digium TE110P = Digital Noise in PRI
Hi list, I have a terrible noise issue with Dell SC1430 + Digium TE110P. The digium card is not sharing interrupts with any other device, as I saw in Dell's BIOS and also with "lspci -vb" command. After changing coax wire, UTP, balum, digium card ... I have found that the problem is in Dell box, so now I'm running the same Asterisk config in other server with the same

FTS and compound searches
Hello, New subscriber here. I noticed that the FTS index is not used in compound searches. Is this expected? Tested in 2.0.0 and 2.0.8: . search BODY "waldo" * SEARCH . OK Search completed (0.000 secs). . SEARCH CHARSET UTF-8 OR SUBJECT "waldo" FROM "waldo" * SEARCH . OK Search completed (1.768 secs). . SEARCH CHARSET UTF-8 OR SUBJECT "waldo" BODY

Video Analysis?
What software exists for digitizing video to quantify the motion of specific features in the image? I might be willing to use something that's NOT in R, though I'd prefer something in R (or at least with an R intereface). Thanks, Spencer Graves

TE420P/TE415P?
Hi, I just read a pressrelease from VON that Digium will soon be releaseing a couple of new cards. What got me interested was: "The TE420P and TE415P support 128ms of G.168 (2002)-compliant echo cancellation across their entire 128 channels." Does anyone know when thease will be released and what they will cost when released? Thanks!

Professional Recordings
Can anyone recommend a company that does professional Asterisk recordings for things like IVR, greetings, MOH, announcements, etc? Thanks, Waldo

Using sqlite3 for CDR logging
All; I am using Asterisk 1.8 and am running into some performance bottlenecks. Right now I am sending upwards of 700 concurrent faxes. I have no problem with that. The problems appear after the faxes complete. I was thinking of using sqlite3 to log CDR's, thinking that would be faster than using MySQL. Has anyone ever benchmarked this to quantify just how much faster sqlite3 is? Are there

4+ Port FXS Analog Device
I'm looking for an inexpensive way to connect 20 analog phones to asterisk. I could get a bunch of Linksys or Sipura boxes but was wondering if there is a more cost effective way? I came across the Mediatrix 1104 and even the Mediatrix 1124 but that comes out to be almost $100/port. I might as well buy inexpensive IP phone. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Waldo

Overriding Caller ID
Hello list, We have some kind of a problem with our Asterisk installation. We want to be able to publish different caller id when placing outbound calls through the PSTN. We have Asterisk with TE410P and T1 from FDN Communications. The problem is that all our outbound calls show our main number, regardless of what we set with SetCallerID, even using CallingPres with all possible

Recommended Network Latency
I'm planning on setting up some remote agents and before doing so, I did some simple PING tests to measure latency. The average latency I got was 250ms. Does anyone have experience in terms of quality of calls when there is such high latency? Can anyone comment? Thanks, Waldo

Confidence Intervals for Arbitrary Functions
I have a rather basic background in statistics, and am looking for assistance in solving what I expect is a common type of problem. I have measurements of physical processes, and mathematical models of those processes that I want to feed the measurements into. A simple case is using measurements of electric power entering and leaving a power conversion device, sampled at regular intervals, and

STUN vs NAT Helper
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend one over the other. I'm mostly interested in running open source solutions, so I would prefer if your recommendations are within the open source arena. Basically, I contemplated the idea of using SER as a NAT Helper and possibly as a SIP server for a portion of our user base. We prefer to have Asterisk in the mix because of the additional

Is it possible to read jpeg files into R?
Hi Helpers, Does anyone know how to read jpeg, bmp or png files into R? I have some photos of brain scans and I want to quantify some aspects of their size. I might be able to do this with the 'locator' function, if I could figure out how to read the files in and make them into an image that I can display on the R Windows device. I have experimented with readBin, using a simple

share level access and Windows XP
I am the tech coordinator in a small public school in rural North Dakota and all of last year I ran Samba on redhat 8.0. I had XP machines that used Samba as the PDC. Worked fine. But now I am getting some XP home machines that cannot log on to a domain. That's okay, because I am determined this year to use solely redhat. In fact, I put the partitions down to 5 gig for Windows and

Asterisk Versions
Hi all, Assuming 1.0.7 is the latest stable version, how/where can I find out the different CVS revisions available and a description of what has been patched/updated in each CVS revision so I can decide whether to leave my 1.0.7 installation as is, or if I need (or think I need) to patch it with a CVS version? Thanks, Waldo

Jackknife in Logistic Regression
Dear R friends I´m interested into apply a Jackknife analysis to in order to quantify the uncertainty of my coefficients estimated by the logistic regression. I´m using a glm(family=’binomial’) because my independent variable is in 0 - 1 format. My dataset has 76000 obs, and I´m using 7 independent variables plus an offset. The idea involves to split the data in let’s say 5 random subsets and
