nVIDIA on CentOS 3.3
Hey,
I tried it. The short answer is that nVIDIA cards are
OK for text, but may not work at all under X.
I downloaded the 3.3 ISO's, and burned new CD's. I
did an X desktop install on a test bench P3 600 MHz
system with a 4.3 gig drive. I did the install with a
known-to-work Voodoo Banshee card to get the system
going. I used a Mag DX1495 monitor, which I know does
not to work on

Re: NVIDIA on Linux
Hello scty library,
I had huge problems with NVIDIA cards on Linux. The
screen would go blank as soon as X tried to load. I
only tried using the driver that came with CentOS.
After lots of parts swapping, I found that the monitor
(obviously) and (even) the motherboard make a
difference.

Finally, I gave up on NVIDIA cards -- I got a Voodoo

Re: more about nVIDIA on Linux^h^h^h^h^h RedHat
Hey,
I have two bits of info that suggest this is more of a
RedHat problem than a Linux problem:
1) A high school friend had exactly this problem
(screen when blank when booting up) on a computer
running RedHat 9. (A different monitor had been used
to install RedHat 9, and that monitor worked OK.
Later, my high school friend got a different monitor,
which went blank on boot up.) I solved the

Domain trust between Samba 3.5.9 and Windows 2008 Active Directory crashes lsass.exe which makes AD Domain Controller reboot
Hi
Trying to set up a one way trust between a 2008 Active Directory domain
and a Samba 3.5.9 server which is configured as a PDC.
There is already an existing trust between AD and an NT4 domain so AD has
been configured to support NTLM authentication (see below for full
details).
With no domain trust, using smbclient either anonymously or with a valid
user on the DC (e.g. Administrator)

Has anyone gotten these drivers to work with any of their games?
I'm trying for Counter-Strike(half-life mod) when i try it just sayes

403 (Forbidden) with Apache on Mongrel Cluster
Hi,
I''ve configured a rails application on my VPS to run on two
mongrels. When I run curl on localhost, the starting page comes up
fine. That is, mongrel is serving the app perfectly.
The problem arises when trying to access the app on my ip through
apache. I
get a 403 error. Just to test things out, I''ve set generous
permissions on the entire rails directory structure

AutoGK issue on OS X
Hello all,
I'm trying to convert a DVD movie from the original DVD to a 700MB AVI file.
Note: This is from a DVD I purchased, I want to convert it for home use, I'm not uploading it anywhere.
I've used MacTheRipper to rip the DVD and I've got a folder containing AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS sub-folders and associated files.
Wine comes into play as I want to use AutoGK (Auto Gordian

Troubles with XFree86-4.10 and sound
Hi,
I recently posted a success story (Steel Panthers).
Well, now it's not working :(
I updated the WINE version to 20010630 (from 20010510) and the XFree86
version 4.10 (from 4.03).
Well, now it says that I have no sound (one application says that maybe
will not work because there's no soundcard). And the game does not
woork anymore (it uses DirectSraw, AFAIK, to paint a 800x600

Kernel modules: nvidia, nvidia-173, nvidia-current, nouveau
Since upgrading from Ubuntu 10.10 I have had problems with graphics. The problems started after I initially upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04 but then installed xubuntu-desktop over it, but I have had the same problem all my fresh installs of Xubuntu 11.04 too.
FPS previously averaging about 30 or 35 FPS while playing an OpenGL game with WINE now starts at 20 FPS for 2 or 3 minutes and then slows down to

How to install Banshee on CentOS 7?
on centos 7 I tried to install banshee from EPEL
yum install banshee
gotting this error:
Error: Package: banshee-2.6.2-11.el7.x86_64 (epel)
Requires: libgpod-sharp >= 0.8.2
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

[LLVMdev] strace for whole-program bitcodes (was: RE: building whole-program bitcode with LLVM)
Hi Terence,
I believe that this is in fact similar to an approach Coverity uses
(or used at one time) as a robust solution to determine what was done
during a build. I can imagine that one can build a robust system
following this technique, but it also seems like it might be quite a
bit of work.
Another possible alternative not mentioned is to teach the compiler
driver (clang, most likely) to

R crashes on Repeated ODBC Queries
Hi,
I've been up all night trying to get the following to work.
First here is the setup. I have a P4 1G mem running WinXP SP2, R 2.0.1
patched 2005-01-15, MySQL 4.1.7 and MyODBC 3.51.
I've been pulling data from MySQL using the code at the end of the post,
where start.date and end.date are chron objects and auction.type is a
string. I've been rushed so the code, especially the

[LLVMdev] strace for whole-program bitcodes (was: RE: building whole-program bitcode with LLVM)
Hi, Kelly, Have you found the solution for this problem? I met a similar
problem when I were trying to test MySQL 5.0 with LLVM. The following is my
step, but still failed since llvm-ld can not recognize some gcc link flags.
1. during the configuration, use a script such as llvm-gcc.sh, at this time
the script only invoke the gcc. This is necessary because the gnu configure
will test the

VirtualDub and enconding with DivX, XviD

I am trying to get the latest wine (Wine 20030219, fake windows) working

avs-file with the DivX-codec. It crashes if trying to. Also, it would be
nice to compress an

not list it in its codecs window ?f "msvfw32" is set to

Scheduled workers only run once unless you call self.delete inside the worker
I had a worker scheduled to run every minute with
backgroundrb_schedules.yml:
ebay_runner:
:class: :ebay_auction_worker
:job_key: :ebay_auction_runner
:trigger_type: :cron_trigger
:trigger_args: 0 * * * * * *
This worker posts an auction to eBay from a queue of auctions every minute.
I was having a problem where the worker would run ok the first time, but
never any subsequent minutes

Symlink outside the share path
Hello everyone --
I am stumped on this issue, mostly because I'm not quite sure if it's
behaving correctly or not. I believe this used to work and right now I'm
not quite sure why it's no longer doing so and how to fix it (if possible).
I suspect it is because of my recent update of the OS and Samba version.
When users are trying to follow a symlink that goes to a different

[LLVMdev] strace for whole-program bitcodes (was: RE: building whole-program bitcode with LLVM)
Hi,
It would be nice if it were easier for relative
novices to build whole-program bitcodes for
large, complex applications with hairy build
systems. Several readers of this list have
been trying various approaches for a few months
but as far as I know we haven't yet found a
good general solution. Approaches that have
been tried include 1) placing wrappers for the
usual tools (gcc, ar, as,
