Re: NVIDIA on Linux
Hello scty library, I had huge problems with NVIDIA cards on Linux. The screen would go blank as soon as X tried to load. I only tried using the driver that came with CentOS. After lots of parts swapping, I found that the monitor (obviously) and (even) the motherboard make a difference. > If so what did you do about it. Finally, I gave up on NVIDIA cards -- I got a Voodoo Banshee

Comming from WhiteBox Linux ...
Hello several months ago I install WhiteBox Linux on several severs, I was happy, not woriing about upgrading every 1,5 year as when I use RH 4.0, 6.0, 7.3, 9.0 .... And then WhiteBox went black, WBEL updates release slowed down and maintainer wont help form anybody. Just telling "If you want quick updates, build it yourself.". Possible new CentOS user (currently WBEL)
Hi, For a few months i've been using WhiteBox Enterprise Linux. In fact, i've migrated all my companie's servers (about 20) to this RHEL distro like. Well, it's not that i'm not satisfied, but WBEL is a one man show and that causes me some preocupation. And besides, it seems to me that it can't stand up to the rythm RHEL evolves. That's why i'm writing to you,

Symlink outside the share path
Hello everyone -- I am stumped on this issue, mostly because I'm not quite sure if it's behaving correctly or not. I believe this used to work and right now I'm not quite sure why it's no longer doing so and how to fix it (if possible). I suspect it is because of my recent update of the OS and Samba version. When users are trying to follow a symlink that goes to a different

64-bit ISO Burning Failures
Hi, I have downloaded several different sets of the 64-bit ISOs, and have burned them to CD using various of my known-good ISO burning softwares, including Nero and DeepBurn on Windows, as well as the native CD burning KDE linux tool on Xandros Linux. I am using mirrors from the site, like kernel.org. I have chosen low burning speeds also, but when I insert the ISO CD into a server and boot it

Python/sqlite date time problems.
Bear with me, this is CentOS related. :) I have a python CGI that's behaving weirldy on Whitebox systems that've been switched over to CentOS 4 (ages ago, no other problems to speak of aside from this one). I've broken the problem down to a minimal test case... 1. Create a small database # sqlite3 /tmp/testcase.db 'CREATE TABLE testtable ( date date primary key unique, name

Wherefore whitebox?
Well, I'm a recent convert from WBEL. My biggest concern with CentOS is that the community here seems to want to be more than a recompile of RHEL. But WBEL is floundering, what with Katrina and Rita, and there really being only 1 developer behind it, etc. I offer an automated shell script to switch from WBEL4 to CentOS4 (easy, it's hosted on my home DSL line!) It assumes that

WhiteBox 4 -> CentOS4.1 - Yum
Hi Is it possible to swap the yum.conf from my centos box onto my whitebox box and have the whitebox machine use centos updates through yum? CentOS seems further ahead and far quicker at roll outs than whitebox? thanks

Moving from whitebox 4.2 to centos
I've been following the faq for moving from whitebox to centos (which admittedly is for release 3, but using the equivalent release 4 files) and keep getting stuck when installing the centos-release-4-2.1 rpm which says it should replace whitebox-release4.2 However this is not happening, giving me the following rpm -Uvh

Poblem with Centos Logos on X bootup...conversion from whitebox to centos.
Hello all I migrated my Centos installation from a whitebox install few months ago. Only one minor issue...on booting up X, the login screen shows whitebox logos. At that time, I did not tackle it because I assumed that it will automatically be upgraded with yum...and again it was not essential to running the OS. What whitebox rpms do I need to substitute with centos ones to correct this

SOLVED Symlink outside the share path
Okay, this problem is solved. It turns out when I was doing the wide links and unix extensions option it really was working. It wasn't until I logged out and logged back in to the client to get a fresh smb connection that it worked. So I'm good. Thanks for the help everyone. I appreciate it. Re: [cAos] centos-3 x86_64 install hangs
Hello gillian, You can try adding these options to the kernel commandline and it might help: noapic iommu=off The 2.4/2.6 hybrid kernel that RedHat supplies with RHEL3 has some issues with some AMD64 motherboards AFAIK, and the above options made the CentOS 3's kernel bootable for me on one of our systems. BTW - I've moved this to the CentOS mailing list, that is a more appropriate forum

Moving data between R and Matlab back and forth?
Hi to the list, I am trying to find a way to painlessly move structured data back and forth between R and Matlab (also Octave). For this purpose I found the R.matlab package great help. I wish to use a Matlab -v6 MAT file as an intermediary format, because it is well read by both Matlab and Octave. It is also well read by 'readMat' function in R.matlab package, but that is where I run
