Messing around with iptables
Hello all, I am messing around with iptables, trying to learn how it works so that I can build my self a router/firewall and mabey a VPN. Anyway I tried to use a command on my Desktop CentOS3 machine. "iptables -A INPUT -s 127.0.0.1 -p icmp -j DROP" now the command seems to have went through because I didn't get any errors, but when I go to ping 127.0.0.1 I am getting a response

Re: NVIDIA on Linux
Hello scty library, I had huge problems with NVIDIA cards on Linux. The screen would go blank as soon as X tried to load. I only tried using the driver that came with CentOS. After lots of parts swapping, I found that the monitor (obviously) and (even) the motherboard make a difference. > If so what did you do about it. Finally, I gave up on NVIDIA cards -- I got a Voodoo Banshee

'ERROR: parsing the volfile failed' on fresh install
glusterd.vol file is default installed with glusterfs package. So I'm not sure how did you end up into a state where this file was missing (as per my initial investigation looking at the logs). What you could do to check if this file is really missing or not by running "find / -iname glusterd.vol" and if it's indeed missing then copy it from one of the peer node and restart

winbindd stays at 100% CPU having joined a domain
[ Please would anyone replying to this maintain the Cc list here as my dear colleague is not subscribed to this mailing list. ] Hello all, I am trying to track down an oddity with winbindd. We're using samba only to join a given domain -- so the config file is very minimal, as per: [global] workgroup = TEDDYBEARS netbios name = SMOOTHWALL realm = TEDDYBEARS.LOCAL security = ads

htb: class 10007 isn''t work conserving ?!
I''m getting the following error/warning at some point in my config script, and I''m not sure which class it is referring to. htb: class 10007 isn''t work conserving ?! I [think I] understand that htb is a non-work-conserving qdisc, and I [think I] have configured things so that every htb qdisc I instantiate limits the bandwidth, so I don''t understand why this

kernel assertion error
I''m running 2.6.7 + (julian''s multi-path patch) + IMQ (imq2+beta6) and I got the following on my console while doing some stress testing: KERNEL: assertion (tp->retrans_out == 0) failed at net/ipv4/tcp_input.c (1827) I don''t know what I would do to try to reproduce this condition; it only appeared once. tcp_input.c sounds deep enough to scare me off from looking

tutorial for Julian Anastasov''s patches
I''m sure that I had found (and printed out ...) a really good tutorial that explain how to use Julian Anastasov''s routing patch, but I can''t seem to find it now. NTLM protocol/multiple DCs
I'm trying to modify the typical Squid/ntlm_auth/winbindd arrangement to support authenticating to multiple independent domains. I have a prototype solution but would like to know if it would work in the general case. (I used http://davenport.sourceforge.net/ntlm.html as a reference for the NTLM protocol.) In the prototype I have multiple instances of winbindd and ntlm_auth with a

Netbios name resolution with DHCP
I have a network with RH7.2 (netbois name "server"), Mandrake 8.1 ("Linuxbox"), Smoothwall ("Smoothwall"), WinNT ("di-bosco"), Win 98 ("robertw" & "Nicole") x 2 and Win 2k ("DiBosco2k"). Smoothwall is the DHCP server. Why would it be that all the Windows machines can ping to a netbios name, eg ping server, ping Linuxbox

gluster + synology
In theory, you can run GlusterFS on a Synology box, as it is "just a Linux box". In practice, you might be the first person to ever try it. list archive anomaly
At the list archive page (http://mailman.ds9a.nl/pipermail/lartc/) there is an amazing message from the future: the year 2032 (q1). Not that I know anything about mailman, but someone might want to "maintain" that. -- ****************************************************************** Glen W. RE: the "cisco vs. Linux" thread
FYI this topic has been covered on the Zebra and Quagga lists - hardware processors, memory, NICs, etc - software OS (Linux, *BSD), drivers, etc I''ve been running a couple of Linux routers for about 2 years now, I''m using them as core routers so I bought a couple of rackmount "server" boxes with redundant PSUs and h/w RAID (1) for hotswap disks.
