centos 3 rpm compatibility
Hello. I would like to know what kind of RPMs we can use for centos 3, appart of the common centos 3 repository. Can we for example take a RedHat 8.0 rpm and install it ? Or can we for sure take an src.rpm and install it this way ? Thanks for any advice, Daniel

Kickstart and aliased network interfaces
Hi, small(?) problem here: We have several servers which have aliased interfaces (e.g. gigabit: one alias points to the net the backupserver is in, the other one "connects" to the filer the machine needs for work). So I'd like to generate this setup with kickstart (yes, I *could* do that with cfengine or other tools, but want to have the general config in kickstart). Alas:

Create Distro
Is there a novice level way to produce a distro/copy/whatever of an installation so that I can duplicate it on a new box? Is there a hard drive copy application that can copy linux drives? Firewire drive support in CentOS 3.3?
I just recently downloaded and installed the CentOS 3.3 release, and I'm having a bit of a problem... It appears that no support for firewire drives has been included. I am unable to find the ohci1394 or sbp2 modules anywhere. Are there other packages which must be installed from the distribution to get firewire devices to be recognized? Thanks. --Steve

rails on emacs - need a working .emacs sample
I would like to hear from some one who has ecb, multiple modes with ruby mode + html mode, rails mode all working together and playing well. I had ecb working with Ruby syntax highlighting. That was a no-brainer since I just had to apt-get them on my Debian Sarge box. It got a bit more comlex after I got most of the .el files in the articles http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/emacs/RubyOnRails

sendmail refusing incoming connections from outside
Hello. I am scratching my head about sendmail for a simple thing: I have a CentOS 4 box on which I would like to receive e-mails. when I type 'telnet localhost 25' I can connect successfully to the sendmail service. Now if I type: 'telnet 192.168.0.30 25' on the same host the connection is refused. It also refuses connections from another host. I have edited the

another yum question
Hello centos community, I have a personal repository with self-made RPMs, and i need to include this repository to yum.conf. But i've noticed that yum configuration is overwritten when yum is updated. I can't update yum.conf manually on my servers each time yum is updated ... Is anyone have an idea ? Thank you. -- Martin

centos-yumconf purpose
Hello. I did try to find out some information about centos-yumconf, but I didn't find any. I would like to know what centos-yumconf rpm is made for and what it does (just overwrite the yum.conf file, or copy things from the original and create a new one ?). I dont' really understand the necessity of this package, because I thought that the version upgrade was made through the $releasever

Problem with HTTP traffic (very slow)
I have two machines running 4.8-RELEASE ... both sitting on the same switch, same hardware, same everything really. One gets 200k/s using wget / curl / w3m to a http address the other gets 6k/s to the same address. On the slow http machine I get 200k/s via scp or ftp to the same address it's just web traffic that is slow (note web traffic to all other locations is 4 - 6k/s as well). I've

Density Estimation
Hallo I am trying to use the package LocFit to follow the example given in an Introductory note of C Loader concerning density estimation. It involves the "geyser" dataset (107 observations on durations, inlc in the package). I have tried the following (using the latest version of R): fit.of <- locfit(~geyser,flim=c(1,6),alpha=c(0.15,0.9)) plot(fit.of,get.data=T,mpv=200) This

[PATCH] fix alignment exceptions
We see the MOVQ instruction but this patch deliberately uses it rather than MOVQDA (load 128-bits aligned). We were seeing that with the trace below, the final invocation is not 128-bit aligned but MOVQDA insists on it (the calling function was pitch_sse4_1.c:90, in the 4-way N - i >= 4 loop). 07-31 11:00:13.469 210 2540 <(469)%20210-2540> D opus_sse1: RBE celt_inner_prod_sse4_1: x

Attached is the amended second patch. It now extends the multistream API as well to 80/100/120 ms and incorporates changes based on Mark's comments. CentOS 4 post installation of all packages
Hello. I have installed CentOS 4 on a server in a hosting company and I realise that not all packages have been installed. I would like to install all packages exactly like it is when we click on 'install everything' from the CentOS 4 installation. Is there a way of doing so with 'yum install' something ? My goal is to have the exact replicate as the default CentOS 4

Patches for adding 120 ms encoding
Hi Ulrich, thanks for the suggestion. My concern is that one of the valid inputs is "2.5", which would require conversion to an int, e.g. x10, but doing something like this would start to affect the code readability.
