binary RPMs
Hi everybody.
I know that we can normally install source rpms designed for RH9 and FC1,
but can we also install the binary RPMs for RH9 and/or FC1 on a CentOS 3
system ?

Kickstart and aliased network interfaces
Hi,
small(?) problem here:
We have several servers which have aliased interfaces (e.g. gigabit: one
alias points to the net the backupserver is in, the other one "connects"
to the filer the machine needs for work).
So I'd like to generate this setup with kickstart (yes, I *could* do
that with cfengine or other tools, but want to have the general config
in kickstart).
Alas:

Create Distro
Is there a novice level way to produce a distro/copy/whatever of an
installation so that I can duplicate it on a new box? Is there a hard drive
copy application that can copy linux drives?

Firewire drive support in CentOS 3.3?
I just recently downloaded and installed the CentOS 3.3 release, and
I'm having a bit of a problem...
It appears that no support for firewire drives has been included. I
am unable to find the ohci1394 or sbp2 modules anywhere. Are there
other packages which must be installed from the distribution to get
firewire devices to be recognized?
Thanks.

sendmail refusing incoming connections from outside
Hello.
I am scratching my head about sendmail for a simple thing:
I have a CentOS 4 box on which I would like to receive e-mails.
when I type 'telnet localhost 25' I can connect successfully to the sendmail
service.
Now if I type: 'telnet 192.168.0.30 25' on the same host the connection is
refused.
It also refuses connections from another host.

another yum question
Hello centos community,
I have a personal repository with self-made RPMs, and i need to include
this repository to yum.conf. But i've noticed that yum configuration is
overwritten when yum is updated. I can't update yum.conf manually on
my servers each time yum is updated ...
Is anyone have an idea ?
Thank you.

centos-yumconf purpose
Hello.
I did try to find out some information about centos-yumconf, but I didn't
find any.
I would like to know what centos-yumconf rpm is made for and what it does
(just overwrite the yum.conf file, or copy things from the original and
create a new one ?).
I dont' really understand the necessity of this package, because I thought
that the version upgrade was made through the $releasever

Creating regularly spaced time series from irregular one

I have a series of intraday (high-frequency) price data in the form of POSIX
timestamp followed by the value.
I sucesfuly loaded that into "its" package object. I would like to create
from it a regularly spaced time series of prices (for example 1min, 5min,
etc apart) so i could calcualte returns.

Centos3 x86_64 Updates
Greetings,
4 belated x86_64 updates here for CentOS-3 (I just got my 64-bit
development boxes back from a show). They'll be hitting the mirrors
eventually. Future updates will be much more timely.

other repositories question
Hello.
I would like to know how other repositories than the official ones for
CentOS 4 affect an update of a package if a package is present in both
repositories.
Will yum install the package that it finds having the highest version number
? and if so, is there a mean to tell yum that we would like to keep the
preference to one repository instead of the highest version number on a

mkinitrd-4.2.1.3-1 unsuitable for 2.6.13+ kernels?
Hi all,
I have a Opteron-machine with the MPT SCSI-controller (Symbios 53c1030).
At least in i386-mode, mkinitrd does not seem to build a usable initrd
for 2.6.13.x (.3 tested) with this kernel. With 2.6.12.6 it works fine.
I have not tested this in x86_64 -mode yet.
The symptom is that mptbase and mptscsih load, but mptscsih does not
discover any controllers nor drives, and things like

crypting remote data
I don't know if this is the propper place to ask for new funcionality, but
after searching the website i didn't find another place to do it.
I'm very sorry if I`m asking this in the wrong place.
It would be greatful to have crypting funcionality added to rsync, appart
from using ssh to crypt transmissions.
I know this is not the original purpose for rsync, but anyway it's a fact

-setup is raid 1 for /boot and lvm over raid6 for everything else
- The / partition (lvm "RootVol") had run out of room... (100%
full, things where falling appart...)
I resized the root volume (from 20GiB to 50GiB). This was done from a

Sound card problem in acoustic echo
Thank you.
But it will cost you a long time to get the accurate play and capture frequencies.
Does your program test two frequencies of the sound card each time? Because
different sound cards have different frequency errors.
And the resampling program is also time consuming because the target frequency is
so close to the sampling frequency of the input signal, isn't it?
I have tested program

Identify motherboard from SSH login
Hi,
I have CentOS 4.4 installed on a system at an ISP and I am trying to setup
lm_sensors. It would be a lot easier to setup if I knew what motherboard I was
using! :-)
Is there any way of identifying the motherboard of a system remotely (via SSH)?
Many thanks
