Newbie setup (Hardware questions)
Hello, I'm trying to setup an Asterix PBX solution in
our office.
We plan to have 5 active lines open available at any
point in time.
We'd like to use VoIP Phones, and possibly Software
Based phone (*NIX/Windows enviroment).
I was researching the various cards and I think I'd
want to go with the Digium TDM40B - 4-port.
However, I can't figure the differences between FXS &

Samba 3.0.7 freezes on windows
Hi
I have installed samba 3.0.7-1 on debian sarge. I
have configure it as standalone. I put a share as
follows:
[share]
writeable = yes
browseable = yes
public = yes
path = /home/samba
The permission on /home/samba is as follows:
chmod 777 /home/samba
Now on my windows XP, the share is listed when i
browse. I am also able to copy a file to the share.
But i cannot open the file and it just

Sound distorted after normalized.
Dear all,
First, my aim is to achieve VoIP using VBR and DTX
under Win32.
I face a problem using speex 1.0.4 and need some help.
My voice is ok and no background noise when I do NOT
normalize 16 bit value to floating value. Normalized
means dividing the 16 bit value by 32767. Turning on
VBR is also ok but DTX has no effect.
However, the speak is has a continous background beep

mysteries of client_process_input()
I was trying to modify the way openssh client (3.9.1p)
handles keyboard input (regular input, once the
connection is made). I modified the
client_process_input function, but it seems that it
was never called. I confirmed this with gdb - setting
a breakpoint on that function never tripped.
Obviously, there must be some other function that
openssh uses to read keyboard input, but I can't find

Sparc hardware, Linux and X100P REVISITED
I was studying the asterisk-users list archives
to learn if anyone has had success with an X100P on a
sparc. I noticed some postings on the subject. I am
wondering if anyone has learned anything new?
I have an Ultra-60 running Gentoo with 2.6.10 and
udev. I built * 1.0.5 and have been enjoying
various SIP configurations, with 2 sipura phones and 2
UIP200 phones (got them working!) in my home,

Re: OT: fax obsoleted? Was: Re: Fax via email (Steve Underwood)
Old managers will change its the LaLawyershat don't
change. Every dam law office that I been in has at
least one fax machine that is constantly printing
something out. But to say fax is dead is an
understatement.
AT&T said that about teletype service, you know 50 -
300 baud service, years ago and then one day they
noticed that traffic across their teletype
seservicetarted growing.

samba periodically access the disk even when idle ?
Hi,
does samba server access the disk periodically even it
is not serving any client ? I am trying to setup a
home server which is not frequently used and set the
HD to spin down after 60s inactivity. But it get kicks
up again apparently by samba(stoping samba and the
disk won't spin up anymore). I think it is a 3 minute
or so interval.
Is there a way to tell it not to as I can sacrifice

Problem stopping services
Hi all,
I noticed that the Instiki service that I setup
(http://rubyforge.org/docman/view.php/85/107/instiki_service_tutorial.txt),
for example, seems to have no problem stopping when I
use the command line.
However, if I try to use the administrator GUI tool to
stop it, it hangs for a long time, and finally dies.
Anyone know why this might be?

New allocation framework and other stuff
Hi all,
To be fully "1.8 compliant" I''ve been updating some of
the packages recently as you may have noticed. Mostly
this has been a matter of replacing STR2CSTR() with
StringValuePtr().
I''d also like to start using the new allocation
framework where relevant, too. I didn''t use this for
a long time because we were using 1.6.8 at work, but
that''s

best patch for iptables ratelimiting
According to the F.A.Q. there''s a patch to do
ratelimiting:
http://etudiant.univ-mlv.fr/~jpetazzo/bytelimit.tgz
Going with the thought that this is current..I tried
it.
I wasn''t able to get it to compile, as support for
invert was causing a failure(i think). But i was able
to get it to compile when I changed line 73 and my box
loaded the module.
Anyone know if this will do

raw parallel port access
After quite a few days of perusing wine
doc/source/config/mailing lists, I have found very
scant references to accessing the raw parallel ports
using wine.
I am running FC2 linux (up-to-date) and have confirmed
I can access the parallel port (dongle) presented to
VMWare running a Windows 2000 guest OS successfully
ie. access to /dev/parport0 works.
I can also run all the programs included with

IAX2 keep alive?
In a setup I've made i have a problem in the two way origination of the call.
Asterisk 1 <==> Public internet <==> NAT <==> Asterisk 2
note the two way pointing arrows.
When you call from the *2 to the *1, the call passes, but if you try to call from the *1
to the *2, it will not connect, unless you call from *1 to *2, and inmediately after
hang-up, you call in the other

Mac OS X 10.4 AD / Samba problems
I am having some problems with joining a Mac OS X
machine to my Win2k AD domain, that appear to be Samba
problems.
All home directroies in the domain are hosted on a
Suse 9.2 box running samba 3.0.9-2.3-SUSE. Windows
machines in the domain work fine, mounting a home
directory from the samba machine.
The Mac OS X machine half works. It domain users can
log into the Mac machine with their AD

Weird behaviour on incoming DIDs
Folks,
I have a problem here. I have 2 DIDs, one a 415 number
and the other a 650 number. I have my extensions.conf
set up to handle both of them exactly the same way,
passing them to an internal context. When _I_ dial
either DID, I get exactly the same behaviour that I
have specified (the call is answered, and then I play
my own welcome mesage, then handle any extension
dialed).
However, when

smbmount -> Permission denied after upgrade to FC2
Hello all, hopefully someone has run into this before.
I was previously running RH9 with Samba 3.0.2a and
would normally mount a document folder to a Win2003
server share.
Prior to the upgrade, my mount would work fine, but
after upgrading to FC2 (Samba 3.0.5) I now receive
"Permission denied" when trying to access the
succesfully mounted share. In addition, when I try to

Still stuck trying to make Asterisk read MySQL
I've been continuing to experiment with MySQL. I'm
having absolutely no luck getting asterisk to read
voicemail configuration data and mailbox configuration
data from mysql tables instead of from voicemail.conf.
The default Asterisk setup that reads from
voicemail.conf and extensions.conf works fine. I'm
using
Asterisk CVS-v1-0-12/12/04-15:58:29 on a Whitebox
Enterprise Linux box.
