Call terminated after 60 seconds
Hello, I switched from my PSTN provider to a voip provider. (Voicedata in the Netherlands) >From the moment i switched all inbound calls are terminated after aproximatly 1 minute. The provider tells me it's not their issue since I have no other configuration than all their other users. What can I do. I removed all asterisk functionality by forwarding the inboud call directly to a local

SIP devices with packet loss tolerance
Greetings list, Hoping someone might have experience with poorly-performing net connections and which devices work best over them. One of our clients has a number of employees that work from home, and are given a SIP phone to take with them and hook up to their broadband. For the most part, this works fine, but there are an increasing number where sound quality is poor ("chops" in and

Newbie-Firewalls?
Hi all, I plan to install Asterisk at home and would like to ask some question re firewalls(perhaps it sounds stupid for experts, sorry….) I plan to connect Asterisk box to a ADSL line. What Router/Firewall system to buy? I think I need a "VoIP capable" device for this. Any advice? But, really should Asterisk be placed behind the Firewall? What ports to open? Need port forwarding? Or

AW: AW: Ipsec passthrough
Sorry to barge in on an old thread. I''m having the same trouble as the gent who started this thread. I''ve tried the options described and can''t seem to get the tunnel to pass packets through it. I''m using the Netscreen Remote VPN client (Safenet derivative) on a windows machine, trying to connect to a Netscreen 5xp at the other end. The connection fires

ADSL routers with integrated SIP QoS for other devices
Greetings list, Thanks to all who replied to my thread a few days ago "SIP devices with packet loss tolerance". One of the suggestions that came out of that thread was to replace routers at users' premises with ones that support QoS. I've used m0n0wall's QoS in the past with reasonable success, but it's quite a bulky and complex setup for deploying to remote sites which

poor network performance on domU
Hi all, I recently started with Xen (3.1.0) on my new server running Ubuntu Gutsy (7.10) and I''m experiencing very poor network performance on my domU''s. Since my colo provider offers me a /28 of routed public IPs next to one interconnection IP to their routers, I built a Xen configuration as described in http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/360 (a routed

Port scan from Apache?
Hi everyone, today I got an e-mail from a company claiming that my server is doing port scans on their firewall machine. I found that hard to believe so I started checking the box. The company rep told me that the scan was originating at port 80 with destination port 8254 on their machine. I couldn't find any hints as to why that computer was subject to the alleged port scans. SIP NAT + m0n0wall 1:1 mapping
I know a SIP client behind a NAT trying to peer with Asterisk behind another NAT is troublesome. Has anyone had any luck doing this by interfacing Asterisk to the WAN using 1:1 NAT translation to give it a public IP while still firewalled? In my instance I'm using m0n0wall, but this is a hardware-neutral question. Thanks. -- Robert Goodyear Brand Up LLC http://www.brand-up.com

Connecting ethX devices directly to a KVM/QEMU guest OS (no bridging)
Hello CentOS gurus, and a belated Happy New Year (or an early Happy Chinese New Year). I'm in the process of building a CentOS-6 KVM host machine whose only function will be to run four independent 'm0n0wall' firewall guest instances. I have a couple of quad-port Intel NICs to provide four WAN-side and four LAN-side ports, which will not be shared with any other guests. Remote

CentOS 4.5 and CentOS 5.0 News
Hi, I use CentOS as a firewall/proxy/webserver/fileserver in my small network. As the small-spec machine with CentOS is heavily loaded/used I can't afford downtime. 20 GB, pentium II with only 128 MB RAM. However I want to know the news on 4.5 is it due soon? Can I gain more by running CentOS 3.x range on such an old machine like mine? Will CentOS 5.0 mean you need a minimum of 512 RAM?

WiFi SIP phones
Greetings list, What are people's experiences with WiFi SIP phones? When I last looked into them about 18 months ago, they were incredibly expensive, had very limited range and poor battery life. In the end, it worked out much more cost effective to simply use ATAs + DECT cordless phones where there was a requirement for portable devices. I assume things must have moved on somewhat since

New Embedded Distro
Hi All, A couple of weeks ago I noticed Askozia PBX, which is a new embedded Asterisk & OS distro at http://askozia.com/pbx. This caught my attention for two reasons; it uses v1.4 of Asterisk, and it uses the m0n0wall development framework to build on FreeBSD with a PHP based GUI. I've used m0n0wall for years, and FreeNAS also, which shares the same OS/GUI framework. I booted the latest

Vista compatibilty in SIP softphones
Greetings list, I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that, unsurprisingly, nearly every new PC seems to be coming with Vista these days. I expect it'll only be a matter of time for all of us before clients start needing Vista-compatible softphones (if it's not already happened). So, what's the story with Vista compatibility amongst the softphones currently out there?

small qos switch
I have multiple locations running * where all the phone are on their own lan and all the data is on a separate lan. The problem is they are sharing the same dsl connection. The locations are IAX2 trunked together, but it only takes one data down/up load to just kill the voice. What I am looking for is a small switch with QoS that I can stick in ahead of the dsl modem. Plug in one connection from

ztdummy does not load properly at server startup
Hi I run asterisk 1.4.2 with zaptel 1.4.1. Zaptel is only needed for the ztdummy driver to get the Meetme() application to work. I don't have any specific hardware. And it does work nicely. When I reboot the machine however I have to manually load the driver like this: [root@vink ~]# modprobe ztdummy Notice: Configuration file is /etc/zaptel.conf line 0: Unable to open master device
