editing gnome menu
Is there any easy way to edit the gnome menu under CentOS 4?
The same versions of gnome under different distros allow easy (to
different degrees) of menu editing.

anaconda in 3.3?
Greetings,
I'm using centos3 to study for rhce, centos came highly recommended
in Michael Jang's rhce study guide. I've been having trouble
isntalling via nfs, an early exercise in the book, and googling around
leads me to think it might be an anaconda bug. I tried following the
anaconda link on the "upgrading from 3.1" page but it's actually a

Any big heads up folks can offer as I set off to try building me a

CentOS and Dell Support
I'm a fairly experienced RH and Fedora user and admin looking to try
CentOS for the first time. I have lots of experience with Dell servers
and I'd like to stick with them.
Although I'm sure it's not always strictly enforced, Dell claims that
it won't provide warranty hardware support on servers installed with
an un-Dell-supported OS (basically, anything other Windows, RH, and

intel dual core processors and new kernel packages
I've just got bunch of RHEL4 erratas (looks like U2 is out). Looking at the
kernel errata (kernel-2.6.9-22.EL), one of the things in list of new features
is "Intel dual core support".
What does this exactly means? Does it mean if I have dual core pentium
processor and use older kernel that it will use only one core, and I need newer
kernel to use both cores? Or is it only

CentOS 3.1 kernel crashes
Greetings everyone,
I've got a problem with my fileserver running CentOS 3.1. The kernel
seems to crash about once a day (inevitably when I'm not present),
forcing me to reboot. This behavior started after I applied the new
kernel patch (2.4.21-15.0.3.EL.c0).
I've left it on 2.4.21-15.0.2 for a little bit to see if it will crash
tonight/tomorrow. As this may be a hardware

Printing Postscript - Very Weird Problem.
Hey folks,
okay, here's the situation - I have a Centos 4.2 system with cups printing
installed printing via postcript (with appropriate PPD file) to a HP
LaserJet 1320N printer (via jetdirect socket 9100).
Everything seems to work right - except for an unusual 'font'??? problem.
Many letters seem to be just slightly garbled. At first I thought this
was a mechanical problem at

update killed my x
X server, that is (as opposed to my ex-spouse...) Anyway, I was
loving life with my rebuilt 2.4.21-9.0.1.EL.c0custom041130a kernel,
and then ran "yum update", which gave me a grub line for
2.4.21-20.0.1EL, but the 21-20 not only won't work with the old X
settings, I can't get it to set up X at all. I tried running "yum
update" from a console on this kernel, but yum

kickstart from cd
Howdy,
Was wondering if anyone on the list has successfully created a
kickstart cd. I get the thing burnt, looks good, I can browse all the
files, but when I actually boot from it I can't get it to admit the
ks.cfg exists. I *have* been successful with kickstart over http;
just can't seem to make it happen from the cd. Pointers appreciated,
I've been mostly looking at the

Mornin' all,
I've got a trio of quick questions: 1.) Are there archives for the
list, 2.) Any trick to installing Qt, 3.) Any tricks, once Qt is set,
installing KGPG?
Meanwhile, only sending signed web-mail from my knoppix box...

Useful Info about Dell latitude E5510
Hi H. Peter Anvin,
I wanted to thank you for sharing information about PXE, I have used
this a lot and I wanted to share something that may be important for you
and your readers.
I have many different Dell model, they all worked well with PXE booting
however not for E5510. I noticed that using "LocalBoot -1 or 0" doesn't
work well. What I did use for Latitude E5510 (Bios A06)

RHEL question
I work for a small company, and we're running CentOS on our servers. We
are looking to possibly move our most critical servers to RHEL. We
currently use apt to deploy software upgrades to our servers. I have a
question about RHEL subscriptions that they don't seem to be able to
answer for me. If you have an RHEL subscription, do you have access to
manually download the RPMs? We
