PHP5?
Any ideas if or when PHP5 will be released? Do you think RH will release it to CentOS-4, or do we have to wait
for the next major release?
Noticed that PHP-5.0.4 is in the fedora-4 beta release..

creating a dynamic output vector
Let's say I have a program that returns variables whose names may be any
string within the vector
NAMES=c("varA","varB","varC","varD","varE","varF"..."varZ"), but I do
not ever know which ones have actually been created. So in one example
output, "varA", "varC", and "varD" could exist, but

Using special characters
Dear R users

I'm having problems in putting special characters (like 佱, 併, 佺 ) in my plots, as much in titles, as in axis names, as in legend...when I save them as a pdf document. They don't appear...
I don't know if it is because I'm using a linux platform...
 The script is the following:

three independent variables (varA, varB, varC)

I want to fit 9 lme models, one per posible combination (DA, DB, DC, EA, EB, EC, FA, FB, FC).
In stead of writting the 9 lme models, I want to

How to pass in a list of variables as an argument to a function?
Hello,
I have some code that currently works fine and I am endeavoring to
convert the major pieces of it into functions.
This involves taking "hard coded" names of variables that are used in
various places and figuring out how to
abstract them out into functions where the arguments (i.e. a list of
variables)?can be passed to the parent function
and used within that function for various

newline in lattice axis label
Hi,
I have a 3 panel xyplot with different variables in the y axis. I'm trying
to insert a newline after "Width (cm)," in the ylab argument as in the
example below. My goal is to have the y axis label broken into two lines,
split after the string just mentioned.
plotfun <- function() {
  fakedf <- data.frame(A = sample(1:100, 50),
                       B = rnorm(50),

'autocompletion' of named elements of a list
I had an obscure bug that boiled down to this ``feature'' in R,
Read 3921 items
> A = list(aa = 1)
> A
$aa
[1] 1
> if (A$a) print("a is there")
[1] "a is there"
The test appear to check is A$a is TRUE, but what happen is that it
auto-complete (silently), and expand to 'A$aa'.
The problem was caused by the fact that I had also a element named

getent passwd problem
Hi,
I am having a weird issue with samba where once a week approximately at the
same time users will lose connectivity,
if i run
wbinfo -u all users are displayed
wbinfo -g all groups are displayed
However running getent passwd only shows local-users, no remote users are
shown..
To fix the issue I have to change the name of my idmap config and restart
samba and winbind and everything works

Vector with factors inside lists/tuples
Hi, this seems like a strange question, but in R is there a function that
can handle vectors containing factors inside lists/tuples? Or is there some
other approach/functions I can use?
Like for example

"{"Brown","Harry")"
I want to use these variables in a machine learning setting, And don't want

Powerware 9120 serial connection via USB/serial dongle
I decided to try this to see if it worked better since
Powerware decided to build in some oddball USB
protocol instead of using a HID UPS profile, but it
doesn't seem to work. The USB/serial dongle is
recognized by Linux and added as /dev/ttyUSB0, owned
by group "dialout", so I had to add the nut user to
the dialout group. In the compatibility list, the

systemd: Failed unmounting /var on reboot, should I worry about fs corruption?
Hi all,
I have Centos 8 installed on a physical machine (www6) with separate LVM
volumes for /, /var, /var/lib/mysql etc.
System boot proceeds without a hiccup, in terminal systemctl status says
everything is OK and running, journalctl says so as well - systemd
mounts everything stated in fstab.
However, on reboot systemd echoes problems with filesystem on /var :

CentOS6: HELP! EFI boot fails after replacing disks...
OK, I wanted to replace the 500G disks in a Dell T20 server with new 2TB

3 -- LVM
/dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb2 are a mirror raid (/dev/md0)

Swap space for kvm virtual host
I have a kvm virtual host running on what will become CentOS 6 with 12GB
of memory and a Quad Xeon X5560 2.8Ghz . The store for virtual
machines will be a software raid 6 array of 6 disks with an LVM layered
on top. I'm not initially planning any major overcommitment of
resources, though there could be a need for some overcommitment with a
light workload on the guests.
