Promise FastTrak series
Hello,
In some weeks I'm going to reinstall some old RedHat9 based servers with
Promise FastTrak TX2000 "semi-hardware" RAID1 controllers. I just tried to
install CentOS 4.0 on a computer with a spare card and as usual both HDD
attached to the RAID1 controller are seen separately by the installer
because the specific driver for the TX2000 wasn't loaded. Nothing new here,

Help with permissions when moving data between Windows and Samba.
Hello list
Samba-3.0.8 on Fedora-Core3.
I am currently testing Samba as a member server of an AD domain and using
winbind for user resolution.
Samba is joined to the AD domain and can I can write files as the
"domain\user" on a test share.
This server is to be used as an archive storage area so I need to move data
from existing Windows 2000 server's to the Samba share while

Winbind + NIS + winbind trusted domains
Hello list,
I need to setup a samba file server with user access from a Windows AD
domain and a separate Solaris NIS domain. All of our users have an account
on the AD domain but only some of our users have a Unix account. I would
like Windows users that have a Unix account to have files written as per
their Unix uid and users that do not have an account to have a uid assigned
from winbind.

Kickstart problem.
I am trying to use kickstart for automated builds from a DVD. Some of
the machines have DVD's drives and some have CDRom drives only. With the
CDRom only machines I would like to plug in an external DVD drive via
USB and use this to kickstart.
The DVD only machines work correctly with a isolinux.cfg as

software vs. hardware with ide Raid 1
What kind of implementation software or hardware is recommended for ide Raid 1 with ext3?
Some controllers from Promise like their new FastTrak TX2000 look nice. But won't I be
tied into the kernel version that is only supported under their drivers? Is ide software Raid
stable and fast with ext3 for a production system?
Thanks in advance.

Promise TX2 and ATARAID....... kjouirnald and kupdated seem to fight it out for reasourses
What is really puzzling me is that the ataraid device (/dev/ataraid/d0p1 mounted as /bigdisk)
2x 123GB IBM Deskstar's is formated as ext2...top and ps etc... show a fight between kjournald and kupdated
and all searches for kjournald or kupdated fights suggest ext3 issues... :-)
It's a RedHat 7.2, 2.4.7-10 custom kernal (I added in the Promise FastTrak support and HIGH mem support

RAID card recommendation
Hey all,
After seeing the horrible lack of support for Promise cards in Redhat
Enterprise/CentOS, I am looking for a recommendation for a good IDE RAID
controller that is supported out of the box (i.e. I would prefer not to
have to install via a driver disk).
I would prefer ATA 133 over Serial ATA for now.
Thanks!

ISCSI help
I am fairly new to ISCSI and SAN technology but having recently invested
in the technology I am trying to find out exactly what can and can not
be manipulated, filesystem wise, without requiring a reboot. I am using
the inbuilt software ISCSI initiator and multipathing in CentOS 5.1.
My steps so far.
Create 10GB volume on SAN

# fdisk /dev/mapper/mpath0

Promise raid cards
Hello.
I would like to know if promise RAID cards are compatible with CentOS / RHEL
?
I have seen that only SATA is supported on the RHEL hardware compatibility
list. The other ATA raid cards seems not to be compatible. They give source
code and promise grants compatibility with RedHat 8 and 9 but not RHEL.
I would like to know if somebody tried a ATA raid card like Fasttrack

[PATCH] klcc: Remove the need for bash
Currently, in the entire klibc bash is only used to identify the path of
the perl binary. It is doing so using the bash built-in 'type' function,
which is POSIX compliant according to [0], but the option -c is not.
By using `command -v` instead, we achieve the same result, in a POSIX
compliant manor [1], potentially removing the unneeded bash dependency.
