problem with R CMD build (PR#7240)
Hello,
This may not be a bug--but I'm not sure. I have R 1.91 installed on a
machine that's running Windows XP. In Cygwin, when I attempt to use the
"build" command it tells me that TMPDIR is set to an invalid directory.
See the results below:

Plotting color.legend() outside of plot region
Dear List,
I am trying to plot a color.legend() in the right outer margin of my device region. I have read multiple threads on the subject and still can't get it right. I have stolen an example from one of the threads to demonstrate my problem. I have extended the outer margin using par(oma()), and have used par(xpd=NA) to tell it to plot in the device region. I can get the legend to plot

some questions: client for ultralinux and streaming
Greetings,
I am rather new to OGG or streaming, so I like to ask some questions:
First, clients:
I have a sun ultra-sparc 5 running linux.
What clients can I use?
The xmms (that came with the redhat 6.2 installation) does not have the
vorbis-pluging, and -I guess- the xmms-plugin that's on the vorbis-website
is for intel-linux?
Where could I get the source for the plugin and (if

best method to format output of frequency table
I have some security alert log data that I'm parsing and doing some stats on.
One of the fields is the "Classtype" which is the enumerated value of the
type of alert found.
classtypes = factor( alerts$Classtype )
fclass_types = table( classtypes )
fclass_types gives me a frequency table of the intrusion types:

Simple question about error on CSV import
I have a substantial CSV to import but can't seem to import even the
simplest CSV.
I'm running the latest stable REvolution R on OS X if that is pertinent.
Here's the contents of a simple test2.csv CSV file:

rpart question
Wondered about the best way to control for input variables that have a
large number of levels in 'rpart' models. I understand the algorithm
searches through all possible splits (2^(k-1) for k levels) and so
variables with more levels are more prone to be good spliters... so I'm
looking for ways to compensate and adjust for this complexity.
For example, if two variables produce

Simple as.Date question dealing with a timezone offset
I've been trying to understand the as.Date functionality and I have a date
and time stamp field that looks like this:
"Tue Sep 15 09:22:09 -0600 2009"
and I need to turn it into an R Date object for analysis.
Simple date conversions I have down, no problem:

version of "call center". That is, we want to get a few land-lines from our

make it cheeper for our clients to call us.
Unfortunatelly there's no ISP

File permissions on VNC unix sockets
I am using kvm libvirt/qemu, and am trying to get VNC working with unix
sockets. I'm using the following in my XML:
<graphics type='vnc' socket='/tmp/kvmtest'/>
This works, it creates the unix socket and I can use it for VNC. But it
creates the socket with 755 permissions, and owned by libvirt-qemu:kvm.
Ideally, I would like it to be 770 root:libvirtd, but could also

rsync over ssh without giving the user access to a shell?
What is the best way to give a remote user the ability to use rsync via
ssh without also giving them shell access?
I want the rsync user to authenticate via ssh. I want to protect their
rsync session with ssh. However, I do not want to give them access to a
shell on the Linux server where rsyncd is running.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

converting #sec to POSIX* format
Sure I'm missing something simple here, but I haven't been able to find a
easy way to convert a pure numeric (# of seconds since the beginning of
1970) back into a POSIX* object.

Desired Install in MotorHome
I've got a client who would love to be able to leave an asterisk
server running sompelace, and achieve telephone connectivity using an
IP phone from within his Motorhome in his words "I want to be able to
work from a mountaintop in Glacier National Park"
I've done some initial testing, and a SNOM200 SIP phone comes close
enough to working that I have not ruled out the idea as
