make_resourceful 0.1.0 Release!
I am extremely proud to put the code up live for make_resourceful! I
have been astonished by the positive feedback I''ve been receiving
since our talk at this year''s RailsConf. So much pressure to get this
thing out!
If you haven''t heard about it... then check out my slides from

Specifying mixins
Hi folks,
Can anyone share some accumulated wisdom about the best way to spec
mixins in general, and (Jamis Buck-style) ActiveRecord "concerns" in
particular?
The standard situation here is that there''s a bunch of functionality,
related by concept if not by implementation, that one wants to inherit
in many different classes (e.g. ActiveRecord models) without having to

skinny Controllers, fat models with REST?
Hi,
I''m really new to rails, so i programmed some stuff and today i read
some things about skinny Controllers, fat models.
My Controllers are really fat now. So i''m asking myself how can i
shrink my controllers and move the code to the models, especially in
fact of REST e.g. in focus on error codes?
code example:
# POST /tasks
# POST /tasks.xml
def create
@authorized

reusable specs - almost there
I have a lot of controllers with virtually identical functionality for most
actions. I''ve been using shared behaviours to DRY things up a bit, but I
still have to create separate behaviours for each context before I can use
the shared behaviours
what I have now is a generic file which contains all the behaviours and
examples common to all the controllers, and that file gets loaded from

Did I miss a meeting?!
I''ve just stumbled (literally, while I was trying to fix a glitch I
was having after upgrading Aegis...) on the Inherited Resources gem...
why did no-one tell me?! ;-)
Is everyone else using some form of controller base-class? Am I the
last on this bus!

Controller specs not shareable?
Hi
I just wondered if there was a reason why Rails controller specs are
not shareable? eg
describe "All XHR POSTs to /gap/calculate_quote", :shared => true do
controller_name :gap
# ...
end
describe "XHR POST /gap/calculate_quote with valid details" do
it_should_behave_like "All XHR POSTs to /gap/calculate_quote"
# ...
end

Specs for ApplicationController, where to put them?
The Rails ApplicationController (app/controllers/application.rb)
serves as an abstract superclass for all other controllers in a Rails
application and is a good place to put methods and filters which you
want all of your controllers to use. In my case I''m using it to
provide methods such as "current_user" and "logged_in?" etc.
By default, RSpec

Xen 3 + Eucalyptus 3.1.2
Does anyone know how to install Xen 3 on Ubuntu.
Today, apt-get install xen 4.1, but I think Eucalyptus 3.1.2 only work with
Xen 3.
Thanks

it_should_behave_like
I''m trying to use it_should_behave_like, and something seems to be wonky
with the syntax. When I add :shared=>true, the DSL complains that the next
line is the fixture declaration:
/vendor/plugins/rspec/lib/spec/dsl/behaviour_eval.rb:137:in
`method_missing'': undefined method `fixtures'' for
#<Spec::DSL::EvalModule:0x324a2cc> (NoMethodError)

spec template for CRUD?
Hello,
Has anyone already come up with a set of shared behaviours that
someone could leverage when adhering to a CRUD concept, with respect
to controllers?
Relatedly, it would be nice if there were a way to share generalized
behaviour specs.

need to create new instances etc. Is there a way to pass the model
class to the shared behavior?

Interesting shared behaviour side-effect
Given the following ApplicationController specs:
describe ApplicationController, "one facet", :shared => true do
it ''foo'' ...
it ''bar'' ...
end
describe ApplicationController, "some other facet", :shared =>
true do
it ''abc'' ...
it ''xyz'' ...

[rspec, rails] Restful Routes in controller specs
Hi,
how is it possible that I can use the restful routes helpers (e.g.
new_user_path) in controller specs? I browsed the source code but I
couldn''t find the magic. I''m just curious and would appreciate any
hint...
thanks

observe_field, GET method and RESTful controllers
Hi all.
I am trying to work with restful rails and have come across a quandry
with observe_field.
I basically want the observe field to call a show action on a restful
controller. However I am unable to do so because I cannot get the damn
thing to use the get request properly. If I use the following:
<%= observe_field("project_selector", :update =>

restful controllers - howto nest with link_to?
Hi List,
I''m trying to get my grip on the restful methods that are now part of edge
rails.
Making the first steps was impressive as well as easy because there are
already great resources on the blogs of early adopters:

ActiveResource find method and restful controllers.
Hi,
What''s the best way to add support for the activeresource find method
in the controllers in my rails app?
As I understand it when you invoke something like:
Person.find(:all, :params => {:name = ''toby''})
this generates a request of:
GET /people.xml?name=toby
Does this mean that in my index method in PeopleController in my rails
app I have params[name] set to

Samba 4.2rc2 and winbindd
OK, so I have compiled 4.2rc2 in a VM to test it. Now I thought that by
using the new winbindd a lot of the old problems would be gone. I have
created a new user, given him a uidNumber and the loginShell &
unixHomeDirectory attributes, I have also given Domain Users a gidNumber.
if I run 'getent passwd rowland' , I get this:
rowland:*:10000:10000:Rowland

Getting Class in Shared Behaviours
Hi,
I want to be able to get at the described class in my shared behaviour. I''m
sure an example will say it better than my words
describe "my shared", :shared => true do
it "should tell me what the class is its describing" do
how_do_i_get_the_user_class_here
end
end
describe User do
it_should_behave_like "my shared"
#...
end
So in my
