SSH - VNC - Shorewall
Hi, I''m struggling with a simple problem and need some help. I have a remote XP laptop connecting with SSH to my linux firewall (RH9, kernel 2.6) and creating a tunnel to port 5995 on the firewall. So now traffic going from the laptop localhost port 5902 is tunnelled to my firewall port 5995. That''s working fine. On my local network I have an XP box I want to control with

blocking outgoing ports with iptables
Hi, I'm using the generic system-config-securitylevel-tui program on a remote server to configure my firewall. So far it's been fairly decent, allowing me to open up ports and whatnot. But I want to start blocking a couple of outgoing ports on my machine. I want to lock it down so the only traffic going in our out of my machine is stuff that I specify. Is there a way to do this

Guarddog, Samba, Win98
Using Samba on Kubuntu Breezy, and Win98 on a virtual PC (VMPlayer). Everything works fine, except: When the firewall (iptables via GuardDog) is activated, I don't get any access from Win98 to my Linux shares - neither by ping nor by "connecting network-drive" - even if I allow everything that can be allowed within GuardDog (although this should have the same effects like

kernel 2.6.32-279.9.1.el6.x86_64 does not build from the source rpm's using the UNmodified config file and following the directions explicitly. Previous kernels build fine from the same directions. A little help from the developers would be greatly appreciated. while building I get this output: c1: warnings being treated as errors drivers/base/platform.c:621: error:

Centos 4.4 Install bug
To the Centos maintainers: We tried to install Centos 4.4 i386 (i686 / Athlon) on a Dual Opteron 254 Iwill DK8N MB, 1GB (4 x 256M) system with a 3ware 9500S-4 and 4 x 80 GB disks in a RAID 10 array. Both tries caused Centos to first kernel panic until we turned off IO-APIC in the BIOS. Both tries also only loaded the UP kernel and did not load the smp kernel on the machine. The smp kernel was

Centos 3.4 3ware 9500S Floppy Boot Disk
We have created a Centos 9500S Floppy Boot Disk for installing Centos on a 3ware 9500S series controller that will allow installing and booting directly from this controller. This boot disk supports only AMD XP, MP and Opterons in 32 bit mode Centos 3.4 for the up and smp versions. We can also do a x86_64 version if required. Any interest???? If so we will post it to our web site. Thanks

(no subject)
My linux box speaks pppoe to external DSL modem. Nortel NTEX35 BAAB. It's up 24/7 and provides web service...etc. Has 6 nics, one of them is fiber. Asterisk is on the same box. Don't have any IP phones yet. The asterisk default is to listen on all 6 enet interfaces? (this is what I'd want). Etherape is showing me a healthy dose of subnet broadcast on each nic...which I assume is

OT: ?? Centos Still Broken, Red Hat won't fix ??
To the Linux Community at Large: I reported to this list back in January, 2010 that the standard x86_64 kernel, when built from the src.rpm and modified for AMD K8 / K10 Extensions would not build. I reported this here and to Red Hat via Bugzilla ID number 558367. RH AS / Centos 5.3 worked fine. That was Centos 5.4 / Red Hat Enterprise AS 5 Update 4. Today we tried to optimize Red Hat

benchmarking large RAID arrays
I'm just wondering what folks are using to benchmark/tune large arrays these days. I've always used bonnie with file sizes 2-3 times physical RAM. Maybe there's a better way? Cheers,

Follow Up - Centos / Red Hat EL Broken 5.4 + 5.5, ** Alternative solution **
To the list: 1) Someone off the list (thanks!) offered to send me an RT kernel based on 2.6.23.X. So I thought why not try to build a standard / server type based on the standard 2.6.23 version. 2) Red Hat 6 Beta 2 is based on a similar starting point 3) I was not going to fix something Red Hat broke. They responded to me that they only support the configuration of the generic binary they

Problem with * not detecting hangup on FXO and VM going into an infinite loop
Hi everybody... I'm having an odd problem with voice mail on a recent CVS of * where it appears not to detect a hangup on FXO and * will keep treating the call as new and continue leaving voicemails until the max has been reached. It will then continue trying to leave voice mails and basically makes the system unavailble to any further incoming or outgoing calls on that FXO..has anybody
