Something every TDMP user should know
> They instantly got us to look at the output of zttest and we found that this was (in their words) 'extremely low', with 'best' and > 'worst' readings of 99.975586% and 99.963379% respectively. Might want to give PCI latency setting a try, it helped for me. My ZTTEST would drop occasionally to 99.95% until I set: setpci -v -s 01:01.0 latency_timer=ff

Still more questions WRT selecting a mobo for small ZFS RAID
Like many others, I am looking to put together a SOHO NAS based on ZFS/CIFS. The plan is 6 x 1TB drives in RAIDZ2 configuration, driven via mobo with 6 SATA ports. I''ve read most, if not all, of the threads here, as well as sbredon''s excellent article on building a home NAS, yet I still have a number of unanswered questions. I was leaning heavily towards the M2N-E for a while,

What do you think about this motherboard?
Hello all..... I would like to know if anyone here has had good experience with this Supermicro motherboard.....http://supermicro.com/products/motherboard/P4/E7221/P8SCT.cfm I am thinking about using it in an entry level mail and file server with a 3ware card and 200 GB SATA drives. Cost is a factor here otherwise I would go for an Opteron board instead. JC

CentOS on Compaq Proliant Rackmount Servers
Greetings, Can anyone relate experience(s) installing CentOS on Compaq rack mount servers units please? Easy no problem, easy some issues, or ghastly do not do it under any circumstances... ;) Basically, I'm looking at some used/refurb dual PIII units and will run RAID on Compaq built in SCSI or is it easy to pop in some 3ware SATA in them? Let me know in terms of CentOS 3 and/or 4 please.

Motherboard for home zfs/solaris file server
Hello, I am building a home file server and am looking for an ATX mother board that will be supported well with OpenSolaris (onboard SATA controller, network, graphics if any, audio, etc). I decided to go for Intel based boards (socket LGA 775) since it seems like power management is better supported with Intel processors and power efficiency is an important factor. After reading several

Small office setup/using analog lines w/ Asterisk
Hi, We recently tried installing Asterisk for a small office. We figured the safest way to go would be to buy from someone who sold equipment specifically for Asterisk and to use a consultant that they recommended. However ... it didn't turn out so great. Sound quality is terrible -- the echo is pretty bad, and there are popping noises, too. Callers say that people on the Asterisk end

How to verify ecc for ram is active and enabled?
Is there a method to view the status of the rams ecc single or double bit errors? I would like to confirm that ecc on my xeon e5520 and ecc ram are performing their role since memtest is ambiguous. I am running memory test on a p6t6 ws, e5520 xeon, 2gb samsung ecc modules and this is what is on the screen: Chipset: Core IMC (ECC : Detect / Correct) However, further down "ECC" is

Motherboard + 3ware 9650SE suggestions
Hello everyone! Working on putting a storage server together and wanted to get some input as to what motherboards have been working for people with the 3ware 9650SE-12ML raid board. This is large, bulk storage, 2-tier stuff. This will not be used for realtime editing of video or something, but a gig nic is almost a given I hope. I have an AMD chip available (AM2 slot) but I can get a new chip

modern motherboard for centos-5
I'm considering upgrading, and am trying to choose a modern motherboard that nevertheless fully works with Centos5/RHEL5. Though I'm partial to AMD processors, and would like to use one in my new configuration, that's not a requirement, if the most appropriate board happens to be intel-compatible. However, given the way ASUS is dumping LInux and crawling more firmly into bed with

Moving hard drives
Hi All, I have a server that is running nicely, except I have hit the maximum RAM (4gb) and I wish to add more. It is an ASUS board, AMD X64 dual core, nvidia nic. What I want going to move to is a dell board, Intel Pentium M dual code, which supports 8gb of RAM. Can I just unplug the HD and move it to the new server and boot it up? I assume that the NIC will need to be re-setup, but what

motherboard for cents 6.3
Seems like overnight every motherboard that worked with linux has DROPPED off the face of the earth. Every motherboard I looked at is using the realtek 8111 chipset and a northbridge that is not supported. Example: GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3, does not work with linux I tried disabling the onboard NIC and using a PCI-E intel card I always use and that would not work either. The north or south bridge

Asterisk on Pcengines Alix board
Hi all, I have successfully compiled and installed Asterisk on an Alix board (AMD Geode 500 Mhz + 256 Mb RAM) on top of Voyage linux (a Debian variant). I'm using it at home for a month. I wondered how much it could be loaded, so I tested it with pbx-test: I could place up to 15 simultaneous SIP calls before it got no more responsive. All in all a good, stable and cheap solution for home

IOMMU and AMD 890fx
Hi, All the reviews for the AMD 890fx chipset reported that it supports IOMMU v1.2. But I cannot find any mention of that on AMD site. Does 890fx support IOMMU? Do 890fx motherboards with IOMMU exist? Does Xen support 890fx? Asterisk for home office
I apoligize in advance for this newbie question on what I perceive as a mostly advanced level list... I did some searching, but would like some of your expert opinions. I'm building an asterisk server to be used in the home, both to learn, and as proof of concept of applying this solution in a home. To keep costs down, I'm considering one X100P ($25 ebay clone) card to connect the

Hardware for HVM
I am using a Asus M2A-VM mainboard with Athlon X2 2300 cpu. The mainboard features a AMD 690G chipset. I thought this hardware is amd-v compatible. While using xen with hvm I get the message: root@pluto:/etc/xen# xm create /etc/xen/win.cfg -c Using config file "/etc/xen/win.cfg". Error: HVM guest support is unavailable: is VT/AMD-V supported by your CPU and enabled in your BIOS?
