country/city codes
Some country codes are three digits long. Some are two.
e.g. UK 44 , Bermuda 441
Does anyone know a formula for determining which part of a dialled number is the country code and city code ?

OT: How to "own" a telephone number?
Hello!
We are open to the possibility of changing our business telephone number
shortly. This will most likely be necessary due to a physical move,
changing providers and a few other reasons. However, we woud like this to
be the *last* time we need to do this. Ever. No matter what. Is that
possible?
On the Internet, you get this power with domain names. We "own" our

EVERY toll free number appears to be in e164.org??
ENUM lookups at e164.org return a IP route for ALL toll-free numbers.
I was surprised to observe that ALL toll-free numbers get a hit at e164.org.
It appears that ALL toll-free prefixes have been delegated, thereby
publishing an IP route for YOUR TOLL-FREE NUMBERS, my toll-free numbers, and
even toll-free numbers that have not been allocated. :-) See below
Should I care? Even though this

e164.org proudly announces PSTN support
e164.org is a public name service which provides ENUM.164, a method
devised by the IETF and ITU to allow an ordinary telephone to be
connected to an Internet type network and provided dialling service from
other, regular telephones.
Unlike many other "free" voice over IP systems, e164.org allows users
who have a regular telephone line, to also hook themselves up to the

e164.org
So I just saw this VoIP-centric article at slashdot
(http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/05/22/1840220) which mentions
e164.org. It's a "non-profit public DNS root designed to map phone numbers
to Internet protocols." Is anyone on this list actually using this?
They have asterisk config instructions:

I wonder if someone can help me understand

Problems with Outbound Calls
Hi everyone!
I'm quite a newbie at this Asterisk stuff so please bear with me.
We've recently decided to start training in Asterisk via AsteriskNow!
Asterisk version is 1.4.18.1 through AsteriskNow! 1.02
The box we have is paired with a Digium TE110P and we've managed to get
it to the point where incoming calls via a single DID (from NTT Japan)
can be received and answered

ENUM lookup help
Hello everyone,
I playing around with ENUM and have configured * to query a few sources
for testing purposes (fierymoon, e164.arpa, e164.org). I'd like to know
if there is a way to query these servers manually (ie outside of
asterisk via nslookup or equivalent) to find out if particular exchanges
are listed with wildcards, so as to terminate calls to those prefixes
(I'm not trying to

GSM/DECT handsets (was gsm picocells)
Now that I actually try and google for it, I can't find any dual mode
GSM/DECT handsets, only pages telling me that they exist without any
actual information!!!
Does anyone know of any such handsets? (and even better, ones that are
available in Australia) I've searched a few of the major gsm
manufacturers (nokia, Panasonic, sonyericsson) but their web sites are
absolutely pathetic to the

LCR with ENUM and DDNS: half the story
Ok, so you've read the Wiki and gotten call routing using ENUM to work
(http://www.voip-info.org/tiki-index.php?page=Asterisk%20E164%20Call%20Routing)
with your own ENUM-alike domain, e164.example.com.
But how do you populate it with data? You can do it manually, but that gets
very tedious very quickly. Or you can use the nifty DDNS updating program
that comes with bind9.
The first thing is

E164 caller ID
Is there a proper and accepted way to go about setting an E164 compliant
caller ID (ANI) ?
Currently, we're using just the Set(CALLERID(num)=XX) where XX is some E164
compliant number like 3539146632431 or some such.
Is there another way we should be doing that or is that proper?

e164.org and FWD now have peering arrangement
There is now a peering arrangement between e164.org and FreeWorldDialup
which means any and all subscribers on FWD are now easily able to make
enum calls by prefixing their call with **164, like wise it's almost as
simple to make a call to FWD by hitting 8829990<fwd number>
This means that for those of you wanting to send/receive calls to/from
FWD subscribers you can now do so, easily

Asterisk on 64 bit... and testing e164.org
Dear Duane:
Thanks for the steer (presently I route calls to 1800 via iaxtel, but
I'll turn that off for that test)
I came up with a thought for an interesting e164 service last night -
distributed custom ringtones, and custom announcements on a callerid
lookup via enum. You'd be able to embed a
RINGTONE - an url pointing to either a ringtone definition or a wav file
that contains

better enumlookup handler
Does anyone have a better ENUM lookup handler than the built-in
ENUMLOOKUP() function? The built-in function does not properly handle
multiple return values such as:
8.9.9.3.2.8.8.6.6.8.1.e164.org has NAPTR record 200 10 "u" "E2U+SIP" "!^\\+1866(.*)$!sip:1866\\1 at tollfree.sip-happens.com!" .

Any have any success using a patton smartnode 4118/js/eiu fxs gateway
with asterisk? We we're able to get the unit to register with

even though I had all of the following enabled on the patton ...

Please some enlightment on ENUM !!
Hello all you Gurus out there!
Please could you explain something to me:
Currently I try to get ENUMLOOKUP() working. Naturally I do all the
testing with my own number.
I registered my number at e164.org
I paid for registration of my number at a registration agent for e164.arpa
(I know, I don't need both. I just did the .arpa registration first and
later discoverd the free .org service....)
