New Asterisk Implementation
Hello,
I've been planning to replace my aging CENTREX switch with a new PBX and am seriously
considering Asterisk as my solution.
I work at a college, and we currently support just under 300 regular analog lines to
the offices and whatnot.
I was wondering.. Is asterisk ready for such a job? Would I be making a mistake
to deploy this across the campus at this time?
It seems that

nnclust: nnfind() distance metric?
Hello,
pardon my ingorance, but what distance metric is used in this function
in the nnclust package?
The manual only says:
"Find the nearest neighbours of points in one data set from another
data set. Useful for Mallows-type
distance metrics."

Geographic distance between lat-long points in R?
Dear R,
I have a bunch of geographic locations specified by lat-long coordinates. What's an easy way to calculate geographic distance between any two points? OR, perhaps there is a function for calculating a distance matrix for K sites?
Sincerely,
Scott Chamberlain

Broadvoice problems again
I had my asterisk configuration working very well with broadvoice, but
it stopped working this afternoon.
I plugged the Cisco 7960 phone I used for my origional signup (just a
few days before they offered generic BYOD) and it works fine. I did
notice it seems to do all of its comunication through
proxy.broadvoice.com (I used tcpdump). I have never contacted
broadvoice about using asterisk

T1 PRI not announce "this is long distance call, please add 1 for this call..."
Can any one help? In Toronto, we can't identify if a number is long
distance call or not. If long distance call, we have to prefix with 1.
We should hear a voice prompt as above to indicate that it is not a
local call. However, we hear the normal ring back tone (indicating the
phone had been connected, but actually not) when we call this long
distance call without prefixing "1".

Weir long distance behaviour...
Hi all,
I have taken my family in hostage and setup an asterisk environment at
home...
I am using a x100p fxo card, a Iaxy and X-ten softphones.
Works ok with local calls.
There is a strange behavior, when we do long distance calls, it keeps
ringing on our end, remote callee answers the call but hear nothing.
It is great for one thing, they called us back and we save the long
distance fees

Prompt for a PIN number to make long distance call?
I need to authenticate users to make long distance calls. Basically, when
the user dials a long distance dialplan pattern, I want to prompt for his
pin and look it up against a table of pins:usernames in a file. If it
exists, I'll use the username in the cdr accountcode and permit the call.
Authenticate() looked very promising nut I couldn't get the ma options to
work. Any help is

How does Novergence do it ?
I had just about about sold a new asterisk phone system to a local
company when they called back asking if I could match a proposal from
Novergence.com. I haven't seen anything on paper but was told their
proposal was to provide a new phone system that would replace the
existing 8 line 12 extension system, provide an internet T-1, unlimited
local and long distance, voice mail, and two

threaded rsync to improve performance over long distance ?
I try to rsync a lot of data over a long distance AU to UK and get a slow
data rate because of the known slow scp performance over long distances.
Would it be possible with rsync to run multiple scp process at the same time
?
Thank you

Zaptel FXS Cards - Station Distance
Hello! In the near future, I'll be deploying an asterisk system that will have (in addition to many SIP handsets) four FXS handsets. Is there a known limitation to the length of cabling that can be used between a Digium/Openvox/Sangoma FXS card and the end station? I understand the card will need a molex power connector plugged in to provide extra voltage. With traditional phone systems, I

How to create a secret code to use my asterisk@home server's long distance plan from a public phone
Hello everyone,
I have an IAX server (asterisk@home) with a FXO card.
I have a trunk connected to a voip provide, asteriskout.
When I call my server from a public phone, I want to route this call
to the asteriskOUT trunk so that I can make long distance calls.
How can I setup a secret password in the extension.conf, so that my
asterisk server can allow me to make long distance call ?
Thanks

Can dial long distance but not local?
AsteriskNOW 1.4.26.2 with a Digium TE205P connected to an ISDN PRI
(single span). I'm sure I just have something goofed up in the
dialplans? I have a bunch of Polycom 331 IP phones connecting to the
server. I can dial the other extensions in the system fine and I can
dial long distance outgoing but cannot seem to get it to dial local (7
digit) calls.
I see this in the CLI:

Long distance provider with access number and auth code
I need to be able to dial a long distance provider that uses an access
number and an auth code. I would like to be able to program this so
that the user can dial 8 and then the long distance number, asterisk
will hopefully do everything in the middle.
The sequence to accessing the provider is on my traditional phone speed
dial as:
* Dial local access number
* Wait 5 seconds
* Dial the auth

Ok, Im an idiot. Can't remount the ext3 filesystem because I deleted the /.jounral file...
Hello everyone,
Ok, I admit it - I'm an idiot. But it seemed the right thing to do at
the time.... I'm running RH 6.2 with a 2.2.19ext3 (ext3 0.0.7).
I wanted to try out the new 2.4 kernel line, so I upgraded modutils, gcc
and few other things.. Compiled the kernel (did NOT patch it to ext3)
and installed it and rebooted. Well, it didn't understand ext3 fs.. Ok...

Flat Rate Long Distance Providers
We are looking for a flatrate long distance provider to integrte with a
hosted Asterisk implementation. I would like to have a SIP/IAX handoff to
whatever carrier. We want the ability to turn LD to any of our subscribers
for a flat rate as well. This request is for USA only. Int'l would be a
per minute basis.
Any sugggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Security on long distance calls
Hello,
which kind of method could you use to inhibit long distance calls to
_some_ extensions?
Is there a way to do it with freepbx or you have to do it manually in
the config files? I wouldn't like to set a route password, because
that is not confortable for the pbx operator. I just would like the
operator being able to call whatever number, while the extensions
should only be able to

Euclidean Distance in R
Hi
1. I have two raster files *.asc (identical size)
2. The data in each contain presence or absence data in each cell
represented by a 1 or 0 respectively
3. I would like to take the location of each 1 (presence cell) in
raster file 1 and measure the euclidean distance to the nearest 1
(presence cell) in raster file 2.
Obviously in some cases there will be overlap so the distance will be zero.
