summing and combining rows
Hello, I have a data set that needs to be combined so that rows are summed by a group based on a certain variable. I'm pretty sure rowsum() or rowsums() can do this but it's difficult for me to figure out how it will work for my data based on the examples I've read. My data are structured like this: Plot SizeClass Stems 12 Class3 1 12 Class4

cox models
Hello, i'm a french student of medical oncology and i'm working on breast cancer. I have a variable with the histologic type of tumor wich is between 1 and 5. I use as.factor function to make some variable with level between 1 and 5. When i put it in the cox model i have only the level between 2 and 5. The level 1 doesn't appear. I think i have to change the number of level but i

SSH hang fix??
It is nice to see that the development of openssh suddenly seems to have a boost of activity. However I am fairly dissapointed to see that nobody is actually trying to fix the ssh hanging problem which I am mainly seeing on Solaris and AIX in conjunction with rsync. Has anybody from the development team got an ETA of the official fix for this problem? Regards Hubba

ggplot2 - facetting
Dear All, After having overcome the issue of legends (thanks, Thierry, once more), I am trying to use facetting, but here also I can not find how to do this. I do not want to use qplot, but rather the more flexible options. However, it seems I am doing still something pretty stupid, because I always get an error, even if it seems I am doing everything like the examples. My code is below.

Ruby at O''Reilly Rough Cuts
Not sure if this is old news or not, but it would appear that both the Ruby Cookbook and a Rails book are now available for purchase at O''Reilly Rough Cuts (something akin to PragProg''s beta book program): http://rubyurl.com/nHz http://my.safaribooksonline.com/?mode=roughcuts&srchtext=ROUGHCUTS I haven''t tried them yet, but it definitely seems worth checking out.

No subject
I've got a table of 1 row per observation. 16 questions * n subjects * 4 classrooms (2 teachers * 2 conditions) I'd like to run some simple regressions that look something like this: lm(length ~ elapsed) I'd like to do the regressions several times, split out by questionkey, student, class. What I've been doing is using a series of which's to create new data sets (e.g.

R extracting regression coefficients from multiple regressions using lapply command
Hi, I have a question about running multiple in regressions in R and then storing the coefficients. I have a large dataset with several variables, one of which is a state variable, coded 1-50 for each state. I'd like to run a regression of 28 select variables on the remaining 27 variables of the dataset (there are 55 variables total), and specific for each state, ie run a regression of

exact goodness-of-fit test
Hello, I have a question concerning the R-function chisq.test. For example, I have some count data which can be categorized as follows class1: 15 observations class2: 0 observations class3: 3 observations class4: 4 observations I would like to test the hypothesis whether the population probabilities are all equal (=> Test for discrete uniform distribution) If you have a small sample size

Cisco to asterisk termination with h323 and g729 finally works.
Hello, I managed to terminate calls from cisco: as5300 and 7206 to asterisk over h323. I tested both oh323 from inaccessnetwork and JerJers chan_h323. I used 1.12.2 version of oh323 and 1.5.2 version of pwlib. After latest changes from JerJer chan_h323.c works ok when receiving traffic from ciscos. I havnt found any audio problems although I didnt send much traffic. Latest oh323 has some

Cisco AS5XXX + CallerID Name
Hi guys. We have currently Asterisk CVS-v1-0-08/15/05-15:53:48 connected in SIP with a Cisco AS5300 (IOS 12.3). One PRI is connected to the Cisco gateway. The problem we have is that on incoming PSTN calls to the AS5300, relayed in SIP to Asterisk, the callerID name is not being transmitted. We received the callerID number but no name. I know we are receiving the name from the PRI in

vorbis ogg vs. aac
Hi folks: this is my second question at this list and I wanted to mention that with answers and guides I got from 2 persons last time, I got a quite low rate stream in vorbis ogg, in about 5 minutes after reading what you wrote- Thanks! Well after that, I pointed my attention to the so called AAC, and after tweaking a bit I got my AAC stream up and connected to Icecast serv. I was a bit

Fun with virtual asterisks ...
So I've been testing asterisk under LXC for a few days now and am very happy with the results. My test server is a 1.8GHz Celeron with 256KB cache and 512MB RAM and I have 20 containers each running asterisk (and apache/php,sendmail and a few other minor things) More for fun than anything else, I've tried daisy-chaining instances together - so 20 asterisks running on the same host, 0

[klaR package] [NaiveBayes] warning message numerical 0 probability
Hi, I run R 2.10.1 under ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) and klaR version 0.6-4. I compute a model over a 2 classes dataset (composed of 700 examples). To that aim, I use the function NaiveBayes provided in the package klaR. When I then use the prediction function : predict(my_model, new_data). I get the following warning : "In FUN(1:747[[747L]], ...) : Numerical 0 probability with

VAR with binary endogenous variables
Hi all! Does anyone know if a vector autoregression package is avaialable that allows binary variables as part of the endogenous system? I'm looking for something along the lines of what is implemented in "Dynamic Forecasts of Qualitative Variables: A Qual VAR Model of US Recessions" by Michael Dueker, 2003, Fed Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Another possibility is the autoregressive

New version of AWDwR
Folks: I''ve uplaoded the B1.05 version of AWDwR. It fixes a number of reported errata (and a few that weren''t reported :), and adds two significant changes: 1. It now uses the new Active Record decimal -> BigDecimal conversion. I''ve personally been waiting for this for a long time, and I''m really happy it''s now part of core. However,

OT: 4 dual cores agains 2 quad cores
Hi people, Do you have pointers to web documents that help me make comparisons between buying a server with two quad core 2.33 ghz or buying a 4 dual core 2ghz server? I am trying to answer a question of performance. It is not important the redundancy/failover or the price of the server. Just the performance. obviously all the hardware specs are the same, the question is the CPU. --

trouble installing icecast
Hello - I'm not a Unix guru, but I can get around okay. I'm trying to build icecast on my system, but when I run the configure program, it ends with the following error: "XSLT configuration could not be found" I could send you the config.log, if that helps. I'm not sure how to solve this error -- can you provide any pointers? I do have libxslt.so on my system. Much

Since 3.0 went into Beta, it has not built on my machine, with the same error(s), this is from the beta tarballs and checkout from CVS, thankfully its very early in the make so i dont have to wait long to be dissapointed. It did build with the few alphas i tried. it looks like it cant find some header files, proto.h, so where is this file? System Details: Dual Pentium 2 350MHz Slackware
